• When Laura calls Mr Jolly from the petrol station to tell him that their relationship is over, how would he have received the call, being a teacher at the school? Nobody (except the very wealthy) had mobile phones then, and it was in general extremely difficult for teachers to receive phone calls in school.
  • Maybe he only had one class to conduct on that day, the very first one , went home afterwards and she actually called him home (that could have even been agreed previously, if his wife was meant to be away and Laura was skipping school)? If so, it makes Brian's rant about Jolly being late a bit more understandable, as well as why he was able to travel to another city without fearing consequences...
