The series, though sometimes dark, has quite some funny moments too.
  • The first light novel volume has a running gag about a Boisterous Bruiser type searching for his sister.
    • He is so hammy and scatter brained that his every appearance is a riot. He is also comically muscular, for which Elaina is a straight-woman for. She calls him "Muscleman", and he doesn't bother correcting her with his actual name because he likes being called "Muscleman". Somehow, Elaina keeps running into him.
    • He intercedes on her behalf when a pair of conmen magicians try to pressure coin out of her. It is staged as a Big Damn Heroes moment, with Elaina unable to believe that she is happy to see him.
    • In the next appearance, Muscleman has turned the magician brothers into exercise freaks too.
    • When Muscleman finally finds his sister, he finds out that she was never kidnapped in the first place but on a group date with several admirers. She dumped all of them because they did not have enough muscles.
  • "Royal Celesteria":note
    • Elaina outwitting the students chasing her, if only for how nonchalant Elaina acts throughout the whole thing while the students are trying to catch her.
    • One of Fran's students tries to ask if Elaina has a boyfriend, which earns him a warning from Fran. The same student later asks about the color of Elaina's panties. Cue Fran getting that student Blown Across the Room. Elaina is even flabbergasted by it.
    • Elaina repeatedly freezes a fish to show Fran's students, only for Fran to instantly unfreeze it. Cue the two witches repeatedly freezing and unfreezing the fish, all while the critter has the most unamused look of exasperation on its face.
  • "The Land Of Truth Tellers": note
    • Cementing her status as a Proud Beauty, Elaina tries to test the city's nickname of "The Land of Truth Tellers" by saying that she isn't beautiful. The result? She ends up declaring that she is very beautiful. The best part is that it's never confirmed if it's actually the effect of the city's magic, her believing her beauty to be the truth, or her just being too vain to even dare say otherwise.
    • The Overly Long Gag of back-and-forth cuts showcasing Saya's glee as she reunites with Elaina, with the former switching between disbelief and joy (even going as far as to pinch herself) and the latter growing more and more exasperated by the second.
      • Later in the episode, when Eihemia plans to destroy the king's sword with Saya, one of their plans was to wait for a whole month for the king to go outside for his speech. This excites Saya and is already thinking on bonding with Elaina, which forces the latter to think of how to enter directly into the palace.
      • Elaina's reaction faces says it all.
    • Elaina's Brutal Honesty to Eihemia.
    • The king lamenting about how the sword Eihemia enchanted for him looks needlessly gaudy and impractical.
    • This brief exchange when two palace guards hit on Elaina and Saya:
Guard: "That boyish witch over here's my type!"
Saya: "Oh, sorry, I already have my heart set on someone." (Looks at Elaina)
Elaina: (Without looking back) "Please don't look at me."
  • "Wall Carved by Travellers":note
    • Saya sees the famous wall and can't help herself when she carves on it to show her love for Elaina.
Government Official: This wall isn't a place where you carve out your lust.
    • The two Government Officials meet Elaina and are basically dismayed that she doesn't have an ample chest like the travelling witch from before who is implied to be Elaina's mother, no less.
      • Elaina shoots back at them by mocking their age, but the Officials are surprisingly fine with and even admit it's the truth.
    • Then we, the audience, learn that the city decide to carve the wall like Saya did. And to say the content written on there is informative would be a gross understatement.
      • It's even funnier when one realizes that Saya expressing her love for Elaina inadvertently led to a chain of events that united two previously hostile cities. Talk about The Power of Love...
    • Elaina, dismayed that the wall was already broken down, buys a debris of the wall as a souvenir of her travels. She randomly chooses one and coincidentally buys the one that Saya wrotenote . This is made even funnier in the novel as Elaina already has a good idea of who wrote it and shudders at the thought.
  • "Grape Stepping Girl":note
    • The fact that the villages are literally called "This Village" and "That Village".
    • The sheer passion with which the villagers defend the correlation of their fetishism to business.
    • The women from the village are just exasperated at the males' antics.
    • Elaina is initially reluctant to partake in the villagers' grape-stomping shenanigans. The second Rosemary shows up, insults her beauty, and leaves, she instantly takes up the challenge.
    • After Rosemary mocks her figure, Elaina passionately(''*cough*'' '''violently''' ''*cough*'') steps on the grapes all the while screaming out "Die".
    • Elaina getting drunk at the expense of the villagers and accidentally starting a new tradition in the process.
    • In the novel, It is revealed that Elaina's "hate" wine is a best seller, in which hardcore fans bids and traded the few bottles of it at a high price.
  • "The Ripper":note
    • Elaina is initially impassive about the Ripper terrorizing the village she's in. Then the Ripper cuts her hair in the middle of the night and makes off with it. She doesn't take it well.
    • When Sheila is searching Elaina's room for clues, one of the things she does is grab her bed while Elaina's on it and flip the whole damn thing over, catapulting her across the room.
Elaina: "I think the most suspicious thing in this room is you, Sheila!"
    • When they prepare to set out, Sheila inadvertently points out Elaina's thin figure again, much to her annoyance.
    • Elaina and Sheila's growing exasperation as they see that the doll auction is mostly just selling life-sized dolls of women in increasingly Fanservice-y outfits, which the townsfolk eagerly fawn over. Sheila even offers to just leave the auction without finding the Ripper.
    • The Ripper proudly declares that she's a witch, so a "mage" like Elaina stands no chance against her. Then Elaina casually tells her that she's actually a witch as well. Cue Oh, Crap! from the Ripper and an immediate Curb-Stomp Battle.
    • Saya finds out about what the Ripper's done to Elaina after she's brought back to the Mage Association, and she's pissed. It's all but stated the nonlethal magical equivalent of a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown happened afterwards.
  • "The Two Masters":note
    • Back when they were young, Fran and Sheila get into arguments wherever they go ALL the time and Niké had to step in and break the tie.
    • Niké brings up an ultimatum that should one of them messes up the assignment, she'll be kicked out. This gets Fran and Sheila to stare and laugh at each other sinisterly, realizing that one of them can finally get rid of the other. The man looks at this and just knows that This Is Gonna Suck.
  • "The Two Apprentices":note
    • Saya really enjoys being in Elaina's body, in part because she can look at Elaina's face however she wants via a window reflection. She starts nuzzling, making kissy faces at, and eventually (in front of the body's original owner, even) licking her reflection.
    • Saya ends up being hauled back to the United Magic Association by the scruff of her neck. Literally. She keeps trying to shake her way out of Sheila's grasp while declaring that she quits and will marry Elaina (who never agreed to marriage, obviously) as Elaina watches on with a bemused look. It looks like she's flown all the way back like this as well.
  • The Drama CDs are all built around comic relief antics with the recurring character cast.
    • In Episode 2 of Volume 8's Drama CD, Avelia is distraught that Amnesia wants to take Elaina on a date to a play with a pair of tickets. She tries to enlist Saya's help to rescue her sister from "a witch"; while Saya's job per the United Magic Association is to confiscate these (cursed, dangerous) tickets, she is uninterested in meddling with a relationship...that is, until Avelia tells her the name of the witch who her sister is taking out on a date. Avelia can't help but be unsettled with Saya's reaction to hearing about Elaina being with another woman. Saya and Avelia then form a united front to break up Elaina and Amnesia's date, but their alliance almost falls apart when they start arguing over whether Elaina or Amnesia is cuter. They eventually come up with a plan involving paper-thin disguises and Avelia vomiting blood—in actuality, strawberry jam—all over herself, and they give themselves away when Saya asks for a date with Elaina and Avelia asks for a date with her "big sis". Saya and Amnesia's meeting is exactly as hilarious as you think, with Saya and Amnesia accusing Elaina of two-timing before they begin fighting with each other over Elaina. Avelia then comes up with another plan to "make everyone happy", but Elaina is unamused when she hears the particulars—that Avelia will take Amnesia while Elaina goes on a date with Saya. Avelia then tells Elaina that although she alone won't be happy, that that's what she deserves for being too much of a Chick Magnet.
    • In Episode 2 of Volume 10's Drama CD, Saya takes a break from investigating suspicious medicines circulating in town to have tea with Amnesia while the latter is bemoaning her sister's Tsundere turn, and drinks tea that is laced with one such potion—one that causes someone to have their first love. Saya desperately tries to avoid falling for Amnesia, but eventually relents when Elaina's voice in her head tells her that it's okay because Amnesia and Elaina have similar hair colors and thus are "basically the same person". Saya then professes her love and how she's looking forward to her future married life with Amnesia, up until Amnesia reveals that this isn't an actual love potion, but ordinary sugar that Elaina had rebranded as a love potion to scam unwitting customers. Saya can only react in embarrassment as Amnesia teases her about all the things she had said thinking she was under the influence of a bona fide love potion.
    • In Episode 3 of Volume 10's Drama CD, Fran sells Avelia a medicine to cure her bashfulness...except by accident, she sold a medicine Elaina had made that cures cat allergies when she herself uses it, but turns anyone else who uses it into a cat. Avelia drinks it and grows cat ears as a result, walking around town with cat ears to the stunned shock of Saya and then Elaina, both of whom are unwilling to tell her outright what happened, and she only finds out what happened once she finally runs into Amnesia, who asks her what's with the cat ears. While the sisters are meeting up, Saya arrests Fran for selling Avelia the medicine that turned her into a cat and Elaina for having brewed the potion to begin with. Surprised at herself and her master getting arrested by Saya of all people, Elaina remarks that her friend seems different today...
Saya: "I separate my work life from my personal life! Even with friend and acquaintances, justice must be upheld!"
    • In Episode 1 of Volume 12's Drama CD, Elaina visits Fran to ask her for help on navigating her first job interview. When Fran asks Elaina how she's been earning money up til now, Elaina asks her if she really wants to know, and Fran quickly decides that's a subject better left untouched. The actual interview practice consists of Fran making fun of Elaina's various mannerisms, and Elaina fails the interview anyway when she tries to bribe her would-be employers with a magic powder.
    • In Episode 2 of Volume 12's Drama CD, Avelia reads a magazine article about how tsundere girls are a hit as of late, and tries to test it out by being tsundere with Amnesia. However, because Avelia didn't actually understand the article she read, she instead does bizarre things For the Evulz such as eating bread but leaving the crusts untouched and making black coffee even though she doesn't drink her coffee black, and ends up baffling Amnesia instead of flustering her. Amnesia finds the magazine Avelia had read, and after a malicious voice in her head tells her that Avelia had read the article about tsundere girls but didn't understand it, she completely turns the tables on her younger sister. Avelia, much to her chagrin, spends the rest of the afternoon getting mercilessly teased by Amnesia.
    • In Episode 3 of Volume 12's Drama CD, Avelia gets arrested due to fitting the profile of a young female traveling mage with long white hair, as one such mage had been selling suspicious medicine near a bakery. Sheila and Saya try various good cop/bad cop interrogation methods to try and get her to confess, the most hilarious of which comes at the end, where Saya plays the role of Avelia's older sister...
Avelia: "Can we pause for a second? For some reason, Saya is sitting right next to me. A-and now she's rubbing her face on my shoulder..."
Sheila: "Starting today, she'll be your older sister. If you don't want her to be your sister, spill the beans."
Avelia: "Uwah, so you're playing threats now, huh?"
    • In Episode 2 of Volume 14's Drama CD, Avelia is showing Amnesia a puppet show she had made for the neighborhood children that literally goes, "Once upon a time lived two sisters: 'Big Sis' and 'Me'. 'We' lived together like a pair of good friends. And they lived happily ever after." When Amnesia tells her that a story that's all of three lines long won't do at all, she suggests expanding the story to incorporate the younger sister getting kidnapped. In response, Avelia takes on a few too many extra roles:
Avelia: "I'll be the princess, who got kidnapped(sister('I'(cute but brave)))."
Amnesia: "That's too many brackets, it's confusing..."
    • In Episode 3 of Volume 14's Drama CD, Elaina, Fran and Sheila are discussing an assignment the latter has regarding a wallet packed with gold. Exasperated by Elaina's antics to try and obtain the wallet, Sheila tells Fran that the latter could learn something from her when it comes to discipline with her apprentice. However, the premise quickly falls apart when everyone at the table stops to think about how Saya turned out:
      Fran: "Learn about...your apprentice?"
Saya (imaginary): "Good afternoon! I'm Saya, Elaina's lover!"
Elaina: "Learn from Saya, you say?
Saya (imaginary): "My hobbies? Stalking, I suppose. Stalking Elaina, that is!"
Sheila: "Sorry, I'm taking that back."
      Saya (imaginary): "Meanies!"
    • In Episode 5 of Volume 14's Drama CD, Saya visits Sheila in the United Magic Association branch office and after hearing that Elaina had massaged Sheila's shoulders in Episode 3, wants to give her master a massage because to do so would be to indirectly touch Elaina's hands. Sheila, thoroughly creeped out, runs away screaming and takes refuge at Fran's hotel room.
    • In Episode 6 of Volume 14's Drama CD, Saya, Amnesia and Avelia all visit Elaina in her hotel room, only to find her unconscious. Coming to the conclusion that Elaina has been murdered, Hilarity Ensues. Saya first concocts a fantasy where Amnesia stabbed Elaina for going on a date with Saya, to which Avelia responds by pointing out a limited-edition cake on Elaina's desk and concocting a fantasy where a Yandere Saya fed Elaina poisoned cake to make Elaina hers forever, and immediately disproves herself by helping herself to the cake and not dropping dead. Somehow, both of them are outdone by Amnesia—up to this point, the Only Sane Man in the trio—who claims to be able to commune with the dead and does so with an Elaina who had made a dodgy potion with dangerous chemicals and drank it—and she makes the deceased Elaina she's talking with sound so dumb that Saya and Avelia even take the time to remark on how OOC "Elaina" sounds. Their shenanigans are put to an end when Elaina pipes up and reveals she had been conscious the entire time, with Saya and Avelia panicking over Elaina having heard their ridiculous murder scenarios, Amnesia fainting and Avelia being made to buy her another limited-edition cake to compensate her. After Elaina "communes" with a fainted Amnesia ashamed of her younger sister for eating someone else's cake, she leaves the audience with an ironic moral: that you mustn't die, lest someone else makes fun of your death.
    • In Episode 3 of Volume 17's Drama CD, Avelia is feeling depressed in her room as Amnesia had left to work her shift at a cafe. Elaina comes to sell her an item she had developed that allows its user to imitate anyone else's voice and offers to demonstrate for a fee. She ends up getting extremely exasperated when Avelia gives her a laundry list of lines to read in Amnesia's voice and is further exasperated yet at the nature of these lines and how Avelia wants her to voice them, and she's in no position to complain because the customer is always right. At the end of the episode, Elaina is being served by Amnesia at the cafe the latter works at, and the latter can tell something went down...
Elaina: "Being an older sister is actually pretty hard, isn't it...?"
      Amnesia: "No really, what happened...?"
    • In Episode 4 of Volume 17's Drama CD, Sheila has ordered Saya to confiscate the voice changing item. Saya's imagination comes up with an outlandish fantasy about an evil Amnesia having the item and holding Avelia ransom, with Amnesia demanding 100 gold coins and Saya reading a laundry list of lines in Elaina's voice about loving Amnesia. Of course, this is far from reality, and Elaina just hands the item over after having been thoroughly put to work by Avelia in the previous episode.
    • The Drama CDs also regularly feature fourth wall-breaking for comedic effect.
      • Case in point from Episode 4 of Volume 10's Drama CD:
Fran (narrating): "And then the witch left the country, never to be seen again. I'm sure she's still out there somewhere, making dirty money-"
        Elaina: *cough*
Fran (narrating): "Ah! Excuse me! ...I'm sure she's still out there somewhere, meeting wonderful people!"
      • Or from Episode 3 of Volume 12's Drama CD:
Saya (narrating): "And just like that, my little sister Avelia and I continued our flirtatious-"
Avelia: "Please don't try and conclude the story with your lies!"
    • ...Or making fun of Sheila's smoking habit.
      • Case in point from Episode 4 of Volume 12's Drama CD:
Saya: "I think she'll get better if she doesn't smoke."
Amnesia: "Smoking is nothing but bad for you, you know."
        Avelia: "It stinks."
Fran: "How about banning smoking altogether?"
Sheila: "Hey, could you lot try being a little nicer to smokers?"
      • Or from Episode 5 of Volume 14's Drama CD:
        Sheila: "Get me some tobacco."
Saya: "I'm underage, so no can do!"
        Sheila: "Tch!"
Saya: "People will start treating smokers like aliens soon. Why don't you take this chance to quit for good?"
