Grim as a tanuki

    open/close all folders

    In General
  • The power-up items used in lessons end up being hilarious when you realize that this means that the students were eating in class.
    • Becomes even more hilarious when the students take P.E./Flying lessons and are eating stuff like sugar cubes, waffles, and cupcakes. What Vargas would say if he saw...
  • Some of the antics the students get up to in lessons are funny as well if left idle—examples include Floyd's falling asleep during Magic History and everyone's expressions when Crowley suddenly appears for Special Lessons.
    • Flying lessons in particular have some students managing to pull a Perfect but don a Oh, Crap! expression when descending.
  • For some, the fact that Divus is a high school teacher who nonchalantly exhibits subtle but recognizable BDSM themes (refers to his pupils as puppies and himself as their master, carries around a collar and stick whip) can be pretty darn funny.
  • Another YMMV example is the sheer difference between the Yuu in the game and the Yuu in the manga adaption, Game!Yuu being described as a small and physically weak individual while Manga!Yuu, or Enma Yuuken, is an absolute hunk who can easily keep up with Vargas' insane training regiment.
  • Upon the release of the English translation there have been quite a few instances of giggle-worthy dialogue choices. Some examples include "dorm leader" now being "house warden", Grimm being referred to as a weasel, Malleus' nickname being changed to "Hornton", and Cater straight up speaking entirely in internet slang.
  • The second round of birthday cards (The Union Birthday sets) ends with the presenter giving the birthday boy a "good luck" present in the form of a cream pie to the face. Crosses into Heartwarming as many of the Groovy pictures feature the target laughing and having a good time afterward, but a few of them like Idia do look annoyed.
  • The guest room feature includes cycles of having whoever is currently in the room get into a fight. Needless to say this has led to some interesting battle combinations that range from totally expected (i.e. Floyd and Riddle) to downright surprising (i.e. Ortho and Kalim).

    Main Story
  • Chapter 2:
    • Yuu, Adeuce and Grim try to get Jack to help them find out who is sabotaging the other teams before the disk drive tournament. Jack asks them why they would go so far to help other people. His expectations are immediately destroyed when he's told that they don't actually care about the people being hurt, they're just doing this because Crowley offered to let them be in the tournament if they discovered the culprits.
  • Chapter 3:
    • How does Yuu go about securing Leona's cooperation in their plan to destroy Azul's contracts? By banging pots and pans (or in the English version, yowling) in order to cause so big of a ruckus that Leona can't even get a wink of sleep and threatening to do so every damn night if they end up losing their dorm.
  • Chapter 4:
    • Grim's idea for escaping Scarabia's dorms? Steal a spoon and dig out of the place! It works.
    • Azul secretly makes a trade with Floyd to temporarily have Bind the Heart to counter Jamil's Snake Whisper. What makes this funny is that Floyd does so in exchange for a deeper voice and complains when he has to give it back because he thinks it's cool, while Azul comments that he finds it disturbing to hear Floyd without his usual voice.
  • Chapter 5:
    • The reactions of Ace, Deuce, Kalim, Jamil, Epel, Rook and Vil when Yuu casually calls Malleus Tsunotaro. Later, Deuce chastises Grim for laughing at Malleus, easily putting two to two together (that the "Tsunotaro" who occasionally shows up at Ramshackle Dorm and wants to talk about gargolyes with them is the same Malleus who delivered a Curb-Stomp Battle during the Magifit tournament) while Ace yells at Yuu about calling Night Raven College's most powerful magician by a simple nickname.
    • Malleus's reaction to Rook asking him why he showed up at the VDC is also priceless; he was genuinely confused about Rook's question when he was invited by Yuu, showing him his invitation.
    • Malleus's smug face when Yuu finally connects the dots and realizes who 'Tsunotaro' really is. Even after that, Yuu still refers to Malleus as 'Tsunotaro' and he doesn't mind.
    • The NRC group being forced to sing with RSA at the end of Chapter 5. To be precise, Kalim and Rook are the only ones enjoying it. Ace and Deuce have exasperated tones as they sing, Jamil is mumbling the lyrics, Epel is confused and Vil has an expression that could be interpreted as "please kill me now".
  • Chapter 6, despite being such a heavy Wham Episode in contrast to the previous chapters, it has plenty of moments of levity. To note some of the notable moments:
    • As much as it's Heartwarming, Riddle sleeping on Leona's lap for 3 hours.
    • While on the way to the Pomefiore dorm after the debriefing and Yuu agreeing to temporarily stay in Pomefiore with Epel due to Ramshackle being destroyed and out of commission, they bumped into Rook who brought himself a suitcase and leaving the mirror heading towards the Pomefiore dorm. He then told Epel and Yuu that he's going to rescue Vil... because Vil had a photoshoot to attend the following week and Vil is captured by S.T.Y.X. without his skincare products in hand. Ladies and gentlemen, Skewed Priorities at their finest.
    • Rook, Epel and Yuu eventually reached where Isle of Lamentation should have been. What does Rook do next? He shouts out his intent to rescue Vil for S.T.Y.X. to hear.
      • The way he introduced himself is also enough to make any player cackle.
Rook: BONJOUR! EVERYONE FROM THE ISLE OF LAMENTATION! IT IS I, LE CHASSEUR D'AMOUR...! [magic sparkles appear everywhere] ROOK HUNT!
      • Epel's half-assed acting following Rook's declaration. 'Nuff said.
    • Once captured, Idia and Ortho both interrogate to the reason why Rook, Epel and Yuu are here... with Rook dramatically shouting out how Vil's life is in danger if he is not without the items he needed. Both Idia and Ortho bought the act until Ortho scans for the items and realize that the items are just Vil's beloved handmade cosmetics.
Idia: They're not even life endangering medicines!!!
      • Even better, Idia and Ortho eventually let them all stay around. They avoided having to fight the Charon army again via Refuge in Audacity.
    • You'd think after being brought away from Night Raven College by force, the kidnapped boys would have some level of panic in them. No, it's revealed that most of them had decided to treat it as an impromptu house visit and having Skewed Priorities after the initial panic has passed, and now are requesting Idia for things to accommodate their stay. It really shows that even under dire panic, they are still Night Raven College students' who are majorly a Nominal Hero at best.
      Leona: Meat.
      Riddle: Tea!
      Azul: Business magazines!
      Idia: GAAHHH!!! YOU'RE SO NOISY!!!
    • A class A Phantom testing occurred, leaving the captive overblot victims plus Idia and Ortho stuck in a room for hours until the tests are over. Ortho then suggests that everyone play some retro old school games to pass time. Some moments include:
      • Riddle not knowing how the controller works and had an Epic Fail of trying to pass the easiest level until Azul steps in. (This comes across as Harsher in Hindsight once you recall Riddle's heavily controlled environment back home since childhood, however.)
      • Leona is recommended a whack-a-mole game by Ortho, with the moles being Hydras... because Ortho saw how cats are very invested in the game while searching for information in the internet and wanted to test if the same also applies to Leona, who is a Lion Beastman, and hence, part of the feline family. Leona is not amused when Ortho eventually told his reasons after Leona was done playing a few rounds.
    • Much later, Vil was brought to talk with Idia and Ortho in private to learn that Rook, Epel and Yuu had come over to the Isle of Lamentation... Vil was grateful that the three had come all the way here and assumed that they have come to the rescue... then Vil was given his makeup products.
Vil: I now wish to slap them after kissing and hugging them.
    • Rook casually dropping that he is a former Savanaclaw student to Epel and Yuu. The Big "WHAT?!" that is evoked out of the two is hilarious.
    • The reason why Riddle was hell-bent on protecting Azul despite knowing fully well how capable he is? Because he wanted to avoid breaking the law; only medical professionals are allowed to treat mermen like Azul who drink potions to maintain their human form, and if Azul got injured while in battle, Riddle would have to heal him despite not being a medical professional. Thus, Azul was not allowed to get injured because that would break the law... Upon learning this, Azul understandably broke into a fit of laughter.
Azul: [in between cackles] You... In this situation, that was all you were worried about? You're such a weird person!
    • Azul's laughter eventually led to some phantoms discovering their location. And still, before battle, Azul took one last opportunity to poke fun at Riddle.
Azul: Let's be careful to not get injured during battle, yes? Pfft...
    • A phantom appears right above Riddle, and Azul kicks him down the stairs to save him. Riddle is pissed off by this, but Azul justifies his actions by saying that his octopus habits were merely resurfacing, as he's used to using his legs rather than his arms.
    • Riddle retaliates in a later part by kicking Azul away to save him. Azul is not amused.
    • In the start of Leona and Jamil's section in part 66, Leona asked for one of Jamil's hair accessories with Jamil obliging Leona's request and handing him one of his hair ornaments. Leona proceeds to throw the hair ornament down the way below to see how many floors Tartarus had. Cue Jamil giving Leona the flattest stare he could muster at whether or not was it necessary for Leona to throw his hair ornament down all the way to the abyss of Tartarus. The cartoon-y sound effect being used in an otherwise dire and serious situation when Leona throws the hair accessory sells it.
    • After an overblotted Idia and Ortho appear and are scaling their way up to the first floor of Tartarus, Azul and Riddle both volunteered to hold off and buy time for the other teams and when deciding on who should drive the Chariot (sent by the S.T.Y.X. staff), Riddle tells Azul to be the driver... because he doesn't have a driving license. Even Azul lampshades the ridiculousness of Riddle's reasoning to make him the driver of the Chariot.
Azul: I can barely even balance myself on a broom, and you're telling me to drive something I don't know?!
    • While Ramshackle Dorm was renovated to look and function much better than before, it cost so much that Yuu's room had to be kept nearly the same as it was before (although Vil did get Yuu a projector to make the room look much more elegant).
  • Chapter 7:
    • Sebek learns of Yuu and Grim's nickname for Malleus and reacts exactly as expected: screaming his head off at Yuu and Grim for such a "blasphemous" nickname. He even continues to go at them when he and Malleus have to leave!
    • Sometime during his time in his dream world, Mickey had upset the King of Hearts because he danced with the Queen during a picnic which lead to the King sending card sodiers after Mickey.
    • The Shrouds finding out through Ortho's communication ploy that Idia was the one who had hacked one of their satellites and bemoaning how they should have known it was him.
    • Ortho's parents initially refuse to let him go into Malleus' domain despite Ortho claiming to be more than capable if he has the proper upgrades, and then Ortho promptly threatens to permentally turn on the sprinkler system all around the Island of Woe which changes their tune. They later scold him for the threat.
    • In order to take and copy the Cerberus Gear blueprint for Ortho to use and return to Sage Island, Mrs. Shroud hacked and brute forced her way into Idia's PC all the way back in Sage Island to search for the files... including all the password locked secret folders that is implied to contain some of Idia's stash of Doujin's. Calling it a Cringe Comedy moment for Idia cannot describe the horror that Idia is going to face once he wakes up down the line...
      • We later get to see Idia learning that Mrs. Shroud saw his files while trying to find the Cerberus Gear blueprints in part 7 and Idia reacted in horror and embarassment. When Ortho tried to placate him that their mother didn't say anything, Idia points out that it's worse than not saying anything at all. He then swore revenge on Malleus for it.
    • Baul Zigbolt claiming to not resemble humans whatsoever...despite his human-like appearence (scales notwithstanding) and looking exactly like an older Sebek.
    • This exchange when Sebek explains why humans can't properly learn fae languages:
Sebek: I am part fae, so I can hear and pick up even the most minute of sounds. AMAZING, ISN’T IT!?
Grim: How do you stand your own voice, then?
    • Sebek and Silver volunteering to cook for the camp, not wanting to eat Lilia's menu of mice and lizards.
      • Later on Lilia cooks and eats a bunch of frogs, leaving the the group in a mix of shock and disgust.
    • Lilia having no shortage of words to describe how much of an utter pain in the ass Princess Mallenoa is thanks to her temperamental and "shoot lightening first, talk later if ever" attitude, straight up referring to her as Briar Valley's "Wicked Princess" and bemoaning how her being a Princess Classic would have made his job much easier.
    • While everyone else is worrying about the mission, Sebek's biggest worry is whether or not he'll get to see Malleus while he was still in his egg.
    • The Mood Whiplash and Black Comedy moment where Mellenoar greets the returning army soldiers by shooting lightning at them for being late and calling them fools. The background music changing from foreboding to the whimsical one used for comedic moments sells it.
    • While traversing Lilia's memories, Silver saw one moment where Lilia tells Malleus that he wants to feed Silver lizard and rat meat. Even back in that time, Lilia was still a Lethal Chef.

    Personal Stories
  • In Azul's SR Ceremony Robes card story, he and Vil strike up a deal in which Vil has to gather ten flowers from the Land of Pyroxene in exchange for a new beauty product made by Azul before the opening ceremony. After several (unsuccessful) tries, discussion turns to how smooth and slippery the Octavinelle members are in eel/octopus form, and suddenly Azul has an idea! What was eventually the secret ingredient in the new cooling gel? Moray eel slime, from Azul and Jade's wringing out Floyd in his eel form like a towel until he couldn't walk for days.
    • When Floyd complains, Azul's solution is to decide the next source of the slime via coin toss.
  • In Malleus' SR Lab Coat card story, Deuce — under the impression that Malleus was picking a fight with him — is hell-bent on showing the clueless fae who's boss, even though he knew fully well that he'd lose. It's hilarious because Malleus just wanted him to fix Gao-Gao Dragon-kun.
Ace: Rest in peace, Deuce. I'll never forget you. [salute]
    Classmates: [nod, nod]
    • The build up to the revelation that the precious treasure of the dreaded fairy prince is basically a Tamagotchi pet is as hilarious as it is endearing.
  • Jamil's exasperation in Silver's SR Lab Coat personal story was also quite funny, as he experienced first-hand the chaos brought forth by the mad-free duo.
Jamil: [when Kalim and Silver forgot about their main objective] These two airheads...!
  • Lilia, of all people, teaching Riddle how to make soup in Riddle's SR Lab Coat card story. It goes about as well as you'd expect.
  • To add on to that previous bit, Jamil's R Beans Camo card story reveals that Lilia's "cooking prowess" is actually rumored throughout the school. Hence, Jamil is incredibly wary of Lilia offering to help cook shawarma.
Lilia: Fret not, Jamil. I am tremendously brilliant at cooking, so me helping you would result in great triumph!
Jamil: [deep inside] LIAR! IT WOULD END IN GREAT FAILURE!
  • Floyd's Ceremony Robe SR has him agreeing to be a drummer for one of Kalim's banquets after Kalim begs him after the original can't make it, but instead of drumming Floyd gets bored and decides to tear up the dancefloor out of no where. Kalim views this as a lively surprise and joins in while Jamil bemoans the situation on top of dealing with Azul trying to use the opportunity to get a deal out of him.
  • Malleus playfully messing with Cater after he tries buttering Malleus up for a photo.
  • Jade's fascination with mushrooms. Highlights include Azul and Floyd having to tell Jade to get rid of them because they started stinking up the place, Jade's Lab Coat Groovy featuring him fawning over mushrooms like they're his sweetheart, and crying for real when Jack accidentally ruins his garden.
  • Azul going into his family life during his Birthday Suit Up story is for the most part heartwarming, but there is still something about his mother remarrying to her divorce attorney of all people that is pretty giggle worthy.

    Events
  • In the Ghost Marriage event, Eliza's slaps have the power to immobilise her targets, meaning every character she rejects is left frozen in the cafeteria for the rest of the event. They begin to heckle Idia during the forced wedding, urging the ceremony on despite knowing that it will turn him into a ghost, just so they can all unfreeze and return to their dorms. On top of this, Yuu and the remaining groom candidates have to roll them out of the crossfire like logs when the Boss Battle begins, much to their chagrin.

  • Diasomnia during the Scary Monsters ~Screaming Halloween Show~ event:
    • The reason why Ramshackle Dorm was being decorated by the Diasomnia students for Halloween Week? Crowley allowed them to do so, and even Malleus agreed.
      • Malleus didn't just agree to it, it was his idea!
    • Lilia explains how Halloween in Twisted Wonderland was celebrated in the past, but then his comment on the present-day Halloween celebrations ends up being a Mood Whiplash:
Lilia: Now it's mostly just an excuse to have fun and cosplay~
Grim: What's with that light talk all of a sudden?!
  • The NRC Master Chef events in general, and the concept of it is full of comedy gold:
    • For starters, Riddle and Silver are the chefs, being taught by a ghost to prepare various meat dishes in the first iteration of the event. Knowing how Riddle fared the first time he cooked and who raised Silver, there's a potential to turn them into horrible cooks.
    • If you mess up the recipe, there's a chance that the resulting dish will become a pile of coal. That and if the dish has mostly low-grade ingredients in it, the (randomized) judges' expressions are mostly of disgust, but Floyd's Thousand-Yard Stare takes the cake.
    • In the third installment of the Masterchef event series, Grand Lethal Chef extraordinaire Lilia himself makes an appearance and it's just as chaotic as expected.
    • The fourth iteration of the Masterchef event is focused around fish dishes... and you gather fishes by going to the Octavinelle dorm. Not a lake or anywhere, but at Octavinelle. The idea of having to hunt and/or gather fishes by swimming all around Octavinelle's dorm gives a funny image.
    • As if to continue a trend from the fourth iteration where you find the main ingredient in the most unlikely place you'd think you would have to gather them, the fifth iteration, which focuses on egg dishes... has you gather eggs from Heartslabyul. Yes, you read that right. Heartslabyul.
      • Even funnier, there's the possibility that Ruggie and Malleus, who are participating in this fifth iteration of Master Chef, would be getting flamingo eggs instead of your regular chicken eggs as the only Avian creature that would reside in Heartslabyul are the Croquet Flamingos. This is also made hilarious if you recall that a chicken coop is one of the available places for ingredient expedition in the previous iterations, so either they Failed a Spot Check or they decided to steal Heartslabyul stock of eggs that they had for their unbirthday parties.
      • The personal stories reveal that while Ruggie participates in the event to hopefully scrap some leftovers for himself to eat to get by, Malleus's reason? He not only wants to experience what the event is like, he also wants to know why Lilia, someone who cooks frequently enough, is such a big Lethal Chef and why his cooking doesn't seem to improve.
      • The egg-focused Master Chef event also gets some Hilarious in Hindsight given that Malleus himself was literally born from an egg.
    • The trend of finding main ingredients of the following iteration of the Masterchef event in the most unlikely places continued after being skipped in the sixth iteration. The seventh iteration has you collecting noodles... in the Ignihyde dorm. It seems that Floyd and Sebek are now stealing the dorm's instant noodle stashes for the competition.
  • Malleus seems to be on a roll in the "Land of Hot Sands Al'aleab Naria" event:
    • Thinking it'd be a good idea to light a fire in the Asim family's limousine when the group begins complaining that the air conditioning made it too chilly inside.
    • Rushing into a fountain to get a better look at the architecture, keeping himself dry while Jamil gets soaked chasing after him.
    • Thinking that dragon fruit was named that way because it's a fruit that can breathe fire.
    • Messing around with Grim when he tries to walk behind Malleus for shade.
    • Ends up getting separated from the group as well as the resulting panic over it. He's tracked down via a GPS sewn into his clothing...to which he responds with asking what GPS even is.
    • When Trey suggests that he buys Lilia spices for cooking, Malleus' reaction was akin to Trey being moments away from committing a war crime! The music even reflects how grave the consequences could have been had Trey actually bought them.
    • Unknowingly buying ice cream from a vendor who plays tricks on customers similar to what's seen in Turkish ice cream videos.
      • Bonus in that either Malleus simply let the act play out or the guy was just that good at his craft that The Ace couldn't get his ice cream.
  • Re: Vargas Camp:
    • Malleus easily completing his assigned task in the first day of the camp by punching a wall to the cave.
    • In the second day, Trey and Rook both joked and teased how the gigantic cat fish will likely love to eat something big like Grim. Once they finally caught the cat fish after dealing with the fairies, the cat fish flopped to air and proceeded (and fail) to eat Grim.
  • Glorious Masquerade:
    • The group preparing to go to the City of Flowers is a goldmine of comedy.
      • Jamil and Vil fussing over their dormmates like a pair of overbearing mothers convinced they can't let their kids out of their sight.
      • Floyd throwing a tantrum over getting passed over for Azul, Azul egging him on by smugly suggesting that the lottery was rigged, and Jade joining Floyd in expressing his frustration via wanton destruction.
      • Conversely, Idia throwing a tantrum over being selected to go.
      • Trein's reluctance to being separated from his cat.
    • Speaking of Trein, while at the waterway tunnels he mentions that during their honeymoon visit he and his wife had stopped somewhere down there to rest. This leads to Malleus and Jamil (and Yuu, if the player chooses) asking him to show them where to which Trein promptly tells them it's out of the question and not to pry him further.
    • Deuce describing Rollo as having "resting deadpan face".
    • While touring the City of Flowers, a goat takes a liking to Malleus. It's suggested to be because the goat assumes that they're cousins.
      • Sebek, of course, takes offense to this, and unsuccessfully chases the goat around.
    • In the middle of a very serious and dark turn of the climax of the event story, Chapter 4 has a cut in the middle where Ace and Jack are doing their Halloween preparations back in Night Raven College, with Ace particularly commenting about how much the students who joined the school exchange in the City of Flowers are enjoying themselves. Then it cuts back to Deuce and Rook fighting for their lives and manually weed out the Crimson Flowers...
    • Malleus having what amounts to a fanboy moment when the gargoyle he encountered earlier turns out to be sentient.
    • During the "Make a Wish" rhythmic there's Idia momentarily freaking out while Malleus and Azul look cool as cucumbers. At the end Idia also sports an expression that says, "I really would rather not be here right now."
  • Tamashna Mina:
    • When Leona gets a call from home that he is to participate in the Tamashina Mina (after having skipped out last year), he sought after classmates to join in the annual tournament called "Catch the Tail". Among them are Vil and Lilia - and neither of them are amused in the slightest.
    • Vil and Lilia get a laugh out of Leona having to fill in the customs associated with the Sunset Warriors and him having to provide the "Guardian lesson".
    • How does Leona convince Vil, a classmate obsessed with beauty, to join in? He bribes him with a visit to the hot springs.
  • Lost in the Book with Stitch:
    • The event opens with the featured casts getting sucked into a book and later realized that they had their outfits wholly changed to look like tourists. Cue panic.
    • When Lilia starts panicking about his now changed appearance, he instead asked Yuu if he looked cute with his currently changed wardrobe. He'll be happy if you say that he is still cute, but is shocked otherwise if you say he looked cool.
    • In an effort to get out of the uninhabited island and get the other students in their personal debt, Azul and Floyd both promise to help swim out the sea to turn into their Merforms and get help, which the group accepts... only it turns out that the clothes had some magic that prevented Azul and Floyd from transforming back to their merforms.
    • Stitch and Grim meet, with the latter panicking at Stitch for being a giant bug after awkwardly staring off at each other for a few seconds. When everyone else arrived, Stitch easily went out of "Alien" mode and looked like a friendly animal.
    • Everyone refers to Stitch as a dog when Jack, the resident and featured canine inspired Beastfolk, said that Stitch is not a dog.
    • When Gantu showed up and later demand the group to hand over Stitch to him, Floyd and Lilia both reject the demand with Floyd wanting to take Stitch with him. Lilia's reason? He'd rather trust Stitch because he is cute, unlike Gantu.
    • Grim getting jealous of Stitch when he later wins over Yuu by either Yuu deciding to agree to help Stitch anyway, or won over by Cuteness Proximity.
    • While gathering fruits to eat, Lilia had Azul try what is implied to be a Durian and cause Azul to pass out from the smell. Stitch ran away from the spot when Lilia told Ace that he never actually tried the fruit himself.
    • To make the campfire, Floyd used up the rest of the group's leftover wood, including the door for the cottage they are staying at. The rest of the group aren't amused.
    • Grim and Stitch having a cat fight over who is the cutest and fluffiest. It has to be seen to be believed.

    Comic

Episode of Heartslabyul

Chapter 1: The Awakened Stranger!
  • The manga version of the prologue show a full depiction of Yuuken and Grim's first meeting. When Grim asks Yuuken if he's overcome with gratitude since Grim's willing to take his place to enroll Night Raven College, Yuuken only responds to him, mistaking Grim for a talking tanuki (even though he looks like a cat than tanuki). The next panel depicts Grim as a tanuki and he wasn't expect that respond from Yuuken since Grim thought he was going to thank him for it.
Grim: "How 'bout it? So overcome with gratitude ya can't speak?"
    Yuuken: "Th.. The tanuki's talking!"
Grim: "That all you're gotta say?! I'm not tanuki!!"

Chapter 2: Cruel Answer!

  • The Ramshackle ghosts attempt to scare Yuuken by offering him a chance to become a ghost. Yuuken isn't fazed by their threat, but instead he's amazed that he can see ghosts without having supernatural powers. He politely declines their offer to become a ghost, but he is looking forward to becoming roommates with them. The Ramshackle ghosts weren't expecting that reaction from him.

Chapter 3: Encounter Person!

  • Grim gets comically knocked out by Yuuken (a normal human) with a push broom.

Chapter 4: Unintentional Troubles!

  • Riddle saves Ace and Deuce from the Faceless Monster because they broke the Queen of Hearts' rule number 304, "On days that a hedgehog sneezes, all card soldiers must sing a song together." According to Riddle, all dorm members of Heartslabyul were supposed to be present at 4:00 when a hedgehog sneezes, Ace and Deuce were the only ones absent and they should face their punishments. This strange rule leaves Ace and Deuce very confused. Yuuken is confused that Riddle is more angry about that minor rule breaking than the torched statue, and Grim thinks that rule is stupid.

Chapter 8: Prompt Escapee!

  • The manga version of Heartslabyul has an extended scene in Trein's history class. While Deuce and Yuuken take the class seriously by writing down lecture notes and reading, Ace yawns in class and feels bored and Grim falls asleep until Trein's familiar, Lucius, squeezes Grim's nose with his paw to wake him up during class, much to Grim's annoyance.
  • The manga version of Heartslabyul has an extended scene in Vargas' physical education class. It shows Ace, Deuce, Grim and Yuuken doing 20 laps and 100 push ups by Vargas. After that, while other students along with Ace and Grim are exhausted from doing brutal exercises, Yuuken and Deuce are the only ones who aren't bothered by it and didn't break a sweat.

Chapter 13: Sudden Advisor!

  • The manga version of Heartslabyul plays slightly differently before Ace and Deuce magic duel against Riddle. For some reason, Deuce is wearing Yuuken’s kendo helmet while Yuuken is fully dressed in his kendo uniform holding up a banner. It implies Yuuken thinks the magic duel for dorm leader title is like a kendo tournament.

Meta

  • An example that might border as Narm: In the animated opening there's a bit where it's implied Leona is upset and even crying over something, but when one of his tears fall it's Mickey shaped.
  • Malleus just can't catch a break even in other places, since his Tsum is the only one not on top of Mickey on the Disney Tsum Tsum home screen during its collaboration with Twisted Wonderland. Poor guy.
    • On top of Mickey Mouse apparently not inviting Malleus to be piggy-backed with the other dorm heads (poor guy indeed), there's just something about a teeny-tiny Tsum!Malleus sitting next to a big ol' Tsum!Mickey that is simply giggle worthy.
      • It turns out Malleus simply fell off...by bouncing off of Leona, no less.
    • The second Tsum promotion has Malleus being part of the dog pile, but now it's Riddle who gets bounced off.
  • The second anniversary commercial has a bit where Floyd wants Yuu (or whoever) to take a picture of him and winds up backing into Azul, Jamil, and Riddle. Riddle and Jamil aren't amused while Azul simply laughs it off.
    • During a broom riding lesson Kalim spots the camera and starts waving, only for him to lose focus and fall right when the picture's taken. Silver paying no mind to Kalim just adds to this.
    • Rook doing a dramatic pose for the camera while Trey looks done with him in the background.
  • Right on the first day of the "Glorious Masquerade" event and gacha going live, Malleus's Voice actor proceeded to roll hoping for SSR Masquerade Malleus... during SSR Masquerade Azul's rate-up bannerExplanation. In short, he picked the wrong banner to roll and get the character he is voicing. Fortunately, he was able to get Masquerade Malleus when his rate-up banner arrived.
