• While out for a walk, Emily tells Anne a story she's heard about a man who will become the inspiration for Heathcliff. She really gets into it, and Anne is absolutely horrified by what she's hearing. Then, stopping outside a shop, Emily calmly says "Anyway, if we're writing novels, I imagine we'll need more paper."
• The wide-eyed, flabbergasted reaction of Charlotte's publisher, Mr. Smith, when he sees her (and her sister Anne) for the first time.
