• Christopher Lee has some wonderful Deadpan Snarker moments: "It's much too dangerous to jump through the fire with your clothes on."
  • The whole scene where Lord Summerisle is explaining the fire-jumping is a masterclass in pointing out Howie's hypocrisy whilst giving an education lecture about it and also sets up Howie as an overly pious blowhard:
  Howie: What religion can they possibly be learning jumping over bonfires?!
  Summerisle: Parthenogenesis.
  Howie: What?
  Summerisle: Literally, as Miss Rose would doubtless say in her assiduous way, reproduction without sexual union.
  Howie: Oh, what is all this? I mean, you've got fake biology, fake religion... Sir, have these children never heard of Jesus?
  Summerisle: Himself the son of a virgin, impregnated, I believe, by a ghost. Do sit down, Sergeant. Shocks are so much better absorbed with the knees bent.
• The scene where Sergeant Howie is searching every house for Rowan Morrison and at one point comes in on a woman (the librarian) taking a bath. Neither he nor she say anything for a moment, then he stammers "I-I'm sorry," and abruptly leaves. To add to the hilarity, look where her left hand is.
• Also in Howie's search, he opens up a closet to find a strange outfit inside. The man beside him happily informs him, "That's my costume. The Salmon of Knowledge!"
• Christopher Lee, in drag as the leader of the May Day precession, prancing around while waving a sickle and some flowers... with an entirely serious expression on his face, berating Punch (Howie in disguise) for not dancing with sufficient conviction.
  Summerisle: What's the matter with you MacGregor, you call that dancing? Cut some capers, man! Use your bladder! That's what you're here for! I suppose you've been getting drunk at your own bar!
• Behind the scenes, shooting the final scene was done in extremely cold temperatures. Poor Edward Woodward had a costume that was not designed for such temperatures, and Ingrid Pitt recalled his ways of keeping warm...
  "Whenever the director called 'cut', Edward made a beeline for me and wheedled me into allowing him to put his icy naked feet up my skirt. Am I simple or what?"
• Apparently the fact that a body double was to be used for Willow's ass shots (Britt Ekland had agreed to appear nude from the waist up only) was meant to be hidden from Britt. But whoever sent the letter out telling people not to say anything to her also delivered it to her room.
