- Jake says that the boxer Rocky Graziano will play the composer Rachmaninoff at the Hollywood Bowl before he ever has a client be completely honest with him.
- Several moments of banter between Loach and Jake.Jake Gittes: I wouldn't extort a nickel from my worst enemy. That's where I draw the line.
Loach Jr.: Well, I'll tell you, Jake. I knew a whore once. For the right amount of money, she'd piss in a guy's face. But she wouldn't shit on his chest. You see, that's where she drew the line.
Jake Gittes: Well, Junior, all I can say is: I hope she wasn't too much of a disappointment to you. - The irritated expression the uncooperative notary with his jaw wired shut makes while talking to Jake about the case. This is followed by the cheerful way that his assistant starts answering Jake’s questions (to a point) as soon as the guy is out of earshot.
- This line when Jake Berman makes a big speech at one point then resumes his conversation with Gittes.Jake Berman: Where were we?
Jake Gittes: Well, I was accusing you of murder, Mr. Berman.
Jake Berman: Call me Jake. - At the climax, the serious moment where Jake perjures himself to save Berman abruptly becomes comical when his two assistants chime in to support the story despite having no idea what is going on and being baffled by the situation, even though one of them wasn’t even a witness in the first place (which the victim’s wife brings up in a Black Comedy Cassandra Truth moment).
