• Security guard Rudy taking his duties rather seriously.
  Rudy: [Guarding the dish in the middle of the night] What's that? Who goes there?!
  Sheep: Baaaaaah.
  • When Rudy thinks he's stumbled on to NASA's channel and is listening to Neil Armstrong, especially when he bolts upstairs to tell the guys all about it.
  • He brags to his sister about how NASA even gave him a gun but begs her not to tell their mum otherwise she'd come down and take it off him. Also involves some meta-humour; if you look at the trigger, it's pretty obvious that the gun in question is being played by a water-pistol. Presumably it was much cheaper to do that than to employ an armourer to take care of a gun that is never once used, on-screen or off.
• Early in the film, Janine demolishes the mailbox while trying to reverse-park. Near the end, while trying to track Apollo 11 in faster-than-safe winds, the station is making an ungodly racket:
  Glenn: Christ - what the hell was that!?
  Cliff: Drive cog must have slipped a few teeth.
  Mitch: Either that, or Janine's trying to park...
• The school band, not knowing the US national anthem, plays the theme tune from Hawaii Five-O instead. The Australians are mortifed... but the US Ambassador hides a smirk.
• When the ambassador asks to listen to Apollo 11, the team fakes it using walkie talkies in the next room rather than admit they lost the signal. Then Rudy hears this on his walkie talkie and thinks it's really Armstrong talking. Later, the ambassador says it sounded like Armstrong was "next door."
• The team complains about not being taken seriously while playing cricket on top of the dish.
• Len's Servile Snarker comments to his boss, the mayor.
  Mayor: Do you remember what they said when I first proposed this thing?
  Len Purvis: That you were grandstanding, that it was a self-serving stunt to big note yourself.
  Mayor: Who said that? They said I was a dreamer. A visionary.
  Len Purvis: Yeah, that's right.
