  • Snow managing to find himself in the monkey house at the zoo in the Capitol, trapped behind bars with the rest of the year's tributes, being gawked at by his classmates and other Capitol people, all because he's trying to impress a girl. It's humorous that such a prim and proper individual could end up in a place like that and it's almost too absurd in comparison to the rest of the book.
Who were all these people hanging around on a weekday at the zoo? Didn’t they have jobs? Shouldn’t the children be in school? No wonder the country was such a mess.
  • After one instance of Snow saving Sejanus, he has to get patched up by Dr. Gaul. To say he wasn't thrilled would be an understatement.
"I started out as a medical doctor, you know," she said. "Obstetrics."
How awful, Coriolanus thought. To have you be the first person in the world a baby sees.
  • Lucretius "Lucky" Flickerman, the host of the Hunger Games, brings his parrot, Jubilee, to liven up the proceedings. Unfortunately for him, he can barely get the bird to talk, so he starts up a weather report and does the voice of the parrot himself. He asks about the weather in District 12 and speaks for the parrot, saying "They've got snow, Lucky! ... Coriolanus Snow!"
Coriolanus gave the camera a thumbs-up when they cut for his reaction. He could not believe this was his life.
  • The Book makes a point to show through his inner monologue that, although Coriolanus is doomed to become the evil President Snow, he is still a petty teenage brat prone to petulant rants and highschool age relationship drama. Case in point when he hears Lucy Gray sing the Hanging Tree for him (mind you, by this point Billy is dead and Lucy Gray is clearly committed to running away with him but he still feels jealous.):
Now he got it. The song, the speaker in the song, was Billy Taupe, and he was singing it to Lucy Gray. He'd witnessed Arlo's death, heard the birds call out his last words, begged Lucy Gray to run away to freedom with him, and when she'd rejected him, he'd wanted her to hang with him rather than get to live without him. Coriolanus hoped this was the final Billy taupe song. What else could be said, really? Not that it mattered. This might be his song, but she was singing it to Coriolanus. Snow lands on top.
