Funny / Shawn Michaels

One of the snarkiest men in Professional Wrestling. While he is also extremely funny in DX, these are more Shawn-focused.

For the D-Generation X-specific entries, go here.

  • Eliminating Mike Knox in seconds at Survivor Series 2006, then rushing over to Triple H to ask "who was that?" Cue the entire team (The Hardy Boys and CM Punk) all joining Triple H to explain to a confused Shawn who it was he just knocked out. Triple H tells Shawn that Knox is part of the match before Matt interjects with “Well, he was.”
  • His great parody of Hulk Hogan before their infamous Summerslam 2005 match.
  • Two moments of trademark overselling from his six man tag match at the 1996 ppv "In Your House: International Incident" - the first being when Owen Hart puts him in a small package and the two roll around several times for no apparent reason, and the second when Shawn is thrown into a turnbuckle and then throws himself out of the ring, which must be seen to be believed.
  • Anytime he interrupts a promo for a cheap plug (and there's no plug too cheap for Shawn Michaels).
  • During a Vince promo in 1997, Shawn slipped in a one-liner on commentary:
"I call him Richard, but I call him Dick for short."
  • Shawn's ring jacket gets stuck in the floor grid. Needless to say, not one of his prouder moments.
  • During Carlito's Cabana, Carlito lures Shawn into a trap so he can get attacked by Chris Masters, and Shawn lampshades the hell out of it:
"You know, you'd think after 21 years of doing this, you'd think I'd be smart enough to not get myself into these situations!"
  • Shawn would like to convey his feelings on the idea of Jonathan Coachman wrestling.
  • Shawn's refereeing of a match between Kane and Rob Conway in which Shawn's set up to be Kane's personal Butt-Monkey (the "May 19th" stuff makes sense in context). Shawn takes the Easily-Distracted Referee trope to its hilarious conclusion. Especially as he slips out of the ring darting his eyes back and forth as if to say, "I didn't have anything to do with this."
  • "Now I know what you're thinking...he's headlined Wrestlemanias, he's held every championship under the sun, and I don't know if I've mentioned this lately, but I sing my own theme music!"
  • Shawn's Twitter is a goldmine of funny, highlighting how deeply sarcastic, completely unaware of pop culture, and a total country-boy Shawn is.
  • From the Wild Card Match at Survivor Series 1995 in which Shawn was teamed with then-hated enemy Sycho Sid: Sid sets up Razor Ramon for Shawn's Superkick, Razor moves and Shawn hits Sid by mistake, leading to Sid being pinned. Shawn just shrugs, mouths "Oh Well" to the camera, and does this little "Missed it by that much" gesture with his fingers. Hilarious.
  • "It's better to be pissed off...than pissed on..." Shane and Vince definitely found this out the hard way.
  • Razor Ramon pulling Shawn's trunks down during the famous Wrestlemania X ladder match. A treat for the ladies, hilarious for everyone else.
  • Shawn Michaels was in Wrestlemania 13. He went around the ring twice grabbing every hand he could. Then, he went into the ring and had fireworks shot out of the floor. And he was there to be to be a commentator for the Sycho Sid/Undertaker fight.
  • After Michaels' antics as the Special Referee for the World Title main event between Bret Hart and The Undertaker at Summerslam '97 ended up costing 'Taker the match and the belt, "The Heartbreak Kid" was easily the most hated man in the land. Countless crowds across the world made their displeasure known by berating Shawn with rather unflattering chants, the most popular being "SHAWN IS GAY!". One Raw, HBK turned to the crowd and gave a retort for the ages: "Why don't you ask your sisters and your mamas how 'gay' Shawn is!" That pretty much shut that down.
  • HBK gets a haircut. And the internet reacts predictably, from bringing up that Glurge-y "Tell Me a Lie" song that accompanied his championship forfeiture, to saying that it was the second worst thing he's ever done in a barbershop.
  • During his entrance at WrestleMania XII, he lands in the crowd, full of very grabby female fans, just as his theme goes "Hands off the merchandise!"
  • Shawn Michaels vs. Hulk Hogan, which essentially turned into a giant Take That! against Hogan when Michaels over sold every single one of Hogan's attacks.
    • The promo he gave the next night was basically a verbal equivalent of the same thing; it was so overblown and forced ("Catlike"? Hogan? Really?) that it became hilarious especially since it's been known that Shawn is one of the best in-ring performers in the history of the business and Hulk Hogan... well, isn't.
  • "Trust me when I tell you... I'm not hurt."
  • During a video between the Undertaker and Triple H about their respective matches from WrestleMania XXV to XXVIII, Triple H mentions the moment that Shawn kicks out of the Tombstone at XXV as being as impactful as it was because of generally how protected it was a Finishing Move. Shawn then chimes in to sarcastically state his Finishing Move (a kick to the jaw) is just as protected, prompting both Undertaker and Triple H to laugh, noting how his move is now everyone’s go-to move right after the first lock-up of a match.
