Please, somebody, give this guy a Super Rod!

As a Moments subpage, all spoilers are unmarked as per policy. You Have Been Warned.

  • The Running Gag of Blue's theme not being a BGM but being the in-universe music "The Oaks" that Blue is actually playing at the moment - and every time, he escalates. It goes to the point that Blue plays it on a boombox at full volume to have a passing Red come to his location on Route 22.
  • After Red resumes training following his temporary retirement, he goes to train with Surge. What follows is an absolutely ridiculous training sequence, with Red and his Pokémon becoming as ripped as JoJo's Bizarre Adventure characters and featuring Lt Surge playing the electric guitar, with several Electabuzz playing the drums and Pikachus firing machine guns in the air, and dozens of military jeeps, planes, helicopters and tanks.
    • Red's Diglett grew arms to do pull-ups.
    • Red arrives at Route 11 while doing the splits between 2 tanks like he's Jean-Claude Van Damme.
    • It shows how Red captured a Drowsee, he threw a pokeball at it so hard that it fainted and got caught.
    • When Red and Surge briefly join forces during the Battle of Silph Co. Red immediately returns ripped.
    • After winning the Boulder Badge and the Thunder Badge in two days, Leaf starts training under Surge. Cue a very similar sequence, with Leaf using Red as a dumbbell and carrying him under the arm as she goes challenging Misty, who has a good laugh... And then lays waste to Leaf's team and ends Leaf's training music.
  • Red (somehow) putting an entire fishing rod in his backpack, while Lt Surge watches in disbelief.
    • After he finally gets a Good Rod, Red passes on his Old Rod to Leaf, who somehow can't catch any Magikarp the rod fishes up.
  • When in the Rock Tunnel, Red faces a Hiker who has his Geodude Self-Destruct... Just to troll him. Red's incensed reaction while the Hiker and the Geodude laugh is priceless.
  • At Celadon City, Red goes to the mall and buys a Thunder Stone to evolve Pikachu... But he drops it and it breaks. He buys another, and it gets broken before use again. He goes to buy another... And discovers he's out of cash after Leaf emptied his wallet earlier.
    • After beating Erika he comes back... And finds that the Thunder Stones are sold out.
    • Some time after becoming Champion, Red procures another Thunder Stone, is giving it to Pikachu... And a Pidgeot comes down and steals it. At which point he just goes to the Power Plant with Leaf, has her catch a Raichu, and they exchange. And this completes Red's Pokedex, as he had captured even Mew and Mewtwo before finally getting a Raichu.
  • When Red tries to challenge Celadon Gym the attendant informs him that the gym is forbidden to males... But he'll be allowed in if he crossdresses. She even provides a cute dress and a wig - the same disguise used by Ash in the anime.
    • It's shown that Blue took the offer.
    • As for Red... He has Charizard burn the outfit and battles his way to Erika. But before challenging her he has to wake her up. And then she starts talking about flowers before spotting the Pokémon League symbol and realizing that Red is there for the Gym Challenge. Who is so sleepy that at first doesn't realize she's being challenged for the Rainbow Badge.
    • The Curb-Stomp Battle between Charizard and Erika's team on the notes of "In the Hall of the Mountain King", so devastating he sets the gym on fire. Cue Leaf abandoning her vain attempts at catching a Water Pokémon other than Magikarp and coming to help and make sense of what has just happened in the few minutes she left Red alone.
      • Erika's Vileplume had offered some resistance, making Charizard fall asleep with Sleep Powder... But the attack also got Erika herself. Good thing Vileplume was well-trained enough to know what to do, at least until Red woke Charizard up...
    • Erika greeting Leaf and thanking her for helping with the fire... While her own kimono is on fire.
  • After retrieving the Silph Scope, Red goes back to Lavender Town through the Underground Path... And Mew steals his hat, causing Red to give chase with his Flying Dodrio while a Gambler shouts. It's the Mew Capture Glitch.
    • The fact Giovanni chased after Mew for years and Red just stumbled on the Mew Capture Glitch and has no idea what kind of Pokémon he has captured. And then just boxes them because he has no idea what a Mew is due to its low level.
    • The fact that Mew was actually following Red around for several episodes since Vermillion City, just to steal his hat.
  • After a hard fight, Red has weakened the Snorlax near Celadon City and prepares to capture them... Cue Great Ball from Leaf stealing the catch. Red's indignation is priceless.
    • After that Leaf shows him her Rainbow Badge and starts telling him what she had been doing since they last met... Then Red remembers there's another Snorlax near Vermilion City and flies away on his Doduo while she's distracted, much to her chagrin.
    • Blue's puzzlement when he can't find either Snorlax.
    • And much later, Leaf's Snorlax refusing to obey her. After all, it had been Red to weaken them.
  • The ending of Red and Leaf's battle with Articuno, it shrugs off Leaf's attempts to catch it with Ultra Balls until she runs out of them, only for Red to use Gengar (a Pokémon Leaf traded for Red's Dodrio) to put it to sleep and catch it with a regular Poké Ball. Cue Leaf's pout of frustation after that happens.
    • It also starts the Running Gag of Leaf always running out of Poké Balls when trying to catch a Legendary.
  • While Red and Blue's fight with Giovanni is supposed to be extremely intense, there are some funny moments, such as Blue briefly taking the opportunity to bully Red by having his Pokémon attack Red's for the lulz and the look on poor Hypno's face as it's being tug o' war'd by Giovanni's fully evolved Nidos.
  • After nearly drowning at Seafom Islands, Red sees MissingNo. Cue incredibly trippy sequence... And then he wakes up and realizes it was just a weird dream.
  • Leaf's attempts to open the locked door of Blaine's Gym, the animation makes her look like she is headbutting the door.
  • Giovanni is on his Gym's doorstep when Archer calls him to report his defeat at Leaf's hands. Then, right after the call ends, Blue calls for his attention. Cue hilarious Oh, Crap! by Giovanni, as he expects to be jumped by the police at any moment... Up until Blue goes "Gary Motherfucking Oak" on him and shows that he won all the other Badges, including the one awarded by a jailed Gym Leader. Somehow.
    • Later a flashback shows what happened: Blaine had escaped custody only to be intercepted by Blue, who beat him in a Pokémon battle and turned him in... But not without forcing him to award him the Volcano Badge.
  • During the Gym Battle at Viridian City, Mew's appearance and Oak admitting Giovanni had been right all along about them causes the villain to repent and the two former friends to reconcile... Then Red gently coughs and points at the table holding the stakes for the Gym Battle to remind what he and Giovanni are supposed to be doing at that moment.
  • Some parts of Episode 41's first half are basically the plot bullying Leaf.
    • After Leaf wins her battles with Brock and Surge, she starts to brag and to tease Red, saying that he needed 14 months for 7 badges while it only took her 2 days to win 2 badges. She even turns into a body-builder during Surge's training, using Red as a dumbbell. Then she confidently faces Misty... who promptly curbstomps her. And takes out half her team (including her Venusaur and Raichu, that she had brought specifically to take advantage of the Type difference) with a Squirtle. The faces Leaf makes during her defeat are priceless. And so is Misty's satisfied smirk, complete with her briefly licking her lips, and the Record Needle Scratch once Misty's Politoed has taken out Leaf's Snorlax.
    • During their trip at the Safari Zone, Leaf fishes a Magikarp... who promptly runs away. At the same time, Red fishes up a Dratini... and effortlessly captures it with his first Safari Ball. Once again, Leaf's frustrated reactions are priceless. The narration concludes that this is why Red is a Pokémon Master while Leaf is a Pokémon Trainer.
  • During the battle with Leaf, Misty plays the part of the stern gym leader. Except when she sees Red. When she does, she breaks character, and shyly greets him with a flustered smile.
  • At some point in the past, Daisy visited Johto and brought back a few bottles of Moo Moo Milk. She also challenged Whitney and her Milktank. It was a short fight, with Whitney looking with her face obscured save for her Slasher Smile.
  • After beating the Elite Four, Blue installs himself as Champion and eagerly awaits for challengers... Except that they rarely ever get past Lorelei and never arrive to face him, and he's got nothing to do during work hours. Plus, he has to deal with the Elite Four's weird hobbies after work. He's so bored that when he's told the next challenger to the Elite Four is Red he's estatic purely because he'll finally have something to do.
  • Lorelei's breast being so large it comes out of a picture.
  • Red's Elite Four challenge has a few moments:
    • Lorelei's continued instances of not thinking her moves through:
      • Her Dewgong attacks Red's Snorlax after he used Rest... And wakes him up pissed. Dewgong is then thrown into a wall through Strength.
      • Her Cloyster defeats Snorlax by using Clamp, keeping them from attacking or being recalled while hitting. Cloyster then tries it on Pikachu... Who promptly uses Thunderbolt inside the shell.
      • Lorelei's Slowbro survives repeated Thunderbolts by augmenting their Special Defense via Amnesia... But she forgot that in the damp air the continued electric attacks were charging the vapor with electricity. Red's Pikachu then uses Thunder augmented by a thundercloud, to both trainers' surprise.
      • And then, when it comes to Lorelei's Lapras it's Red's turn to do something stupid... Namely sending in his own Lapras.
    • Bruno's facial expressions in general, but most notably when Red's Hypno overpowers his Machamp's Submission with a Mega Kick. Especially as he realizes Hypno is augmenting his physical moves with Confusion.
      • And when said Machamp goes down, he makes the sound of defeated fighters in the Street Fighter games.
    • Agatha's match has a flashback to her teen years... And shows her being a Tsundere to Pprofessor Oak, plus Youngster Giovanni looking hilariously happy.
      • And later she too does something stupid, namely having her Arbok use Acid on Red's Nidoking. Who literally eats it.
      • Finally, Hypno's frustration as Agatha continues switching her Haunter and last Gengar to have them dodge his Psychic.
    • Lance' WTF face when Red sends in his Pikachu. He can't believe someone would use that against him.
  • After Red becomes champion there's a brief scene of people demanding access to Viridian Gym to challenge the leader, except there's no Gym Leader since Giovanni left... Then Blue shows up with a cocky smile and the arms signaling "If I have to...". Next we see, a Bug Catcher is getting crushed by Blue's Eevee.
  • During Red's reign as Champion, one of his rare challengers was a Black Belt, with the usual Fighting Type team... And had the horribly poor timing of arriving soon after Red caught Mewtwo. It was a short battle.
  • Daisy at Red's birthday, first flirting with him before Misty, and then giving him something that leaves him horrified and blushing while Misty is bemused.
  • At Red's birthday, Cynthia dismisses the cocky guy who showed up just to challenge Red... Then Lance informs her that Gold has won sixteen badges, causing her to have a Spit Take.
