Funny / Mistakenly Saving the Villain

  • Song Qingshi's first spoken lines are hilarious because of how blatantly they contradict everything he thought earlier. "I have read tens of thousands of books and they're all imprinted in my memory", says the guy who admitted he never read novels. "I am very experienced in love" and "I love communicating with others", says the Shrinking Violet who's never even had a crush on anyone.
  • Song Qingshi mentions how he and his teacher used to test medicines on themselves, to Yue Wuhuan's alarm.
Wuhuan: Master, with your teacher having tested so many medicines, how is he now? Is he still doing well?
Qingshi: He is in another world.note
  • Song Qingshi attempts to cook dumplings. "Attempts" is the key word.
[Qingshi] stood ignorantly in the kitchen for a long while, trying to figure out the use of the various utensils. He couldn't find a recipe and also didn't know how to work an ordinary firewood stove. And so he simply resorted to using the alchemical fire and made the sweets according to the methods he used to refine pills.
    • Then there's the result.
It was so cloyingly sweet and it was mixed with all sorts of strange, aromatic spices. It even had a strange fishy taste to it. It was worse than even the bitterest pill. It had reached the level of absolutely nauseating.
  • The author's note at the end of chapter forty compares the acting level of Wuhuan, An Long and Qingshi.
    Yue Wuhuan: Oscar-winning Film Emperor.
    An Long: Domestic Film Emperor.
Song Qingshi: I once played a tree in our kindergarten stage play!
  • Qingshi's obliviousness strikes again.
Qingshi: [replying to Wuhuan's comment about doing interesting things in bed]] Apart from sleeping and reading, what else can one do in bed?
