Story Missions
  • When you start a main story mission, you have a quick cutscene of Link jumping off the Sheikah Tower and using the paraglider. But sometimes, he'll instead hang to a Cucco!
  • Much like in Breath of the Wild, Link can rush into battle wearing nothing but his boxers. Unlike BOTW, there's no defense penalty and none of the other characters comment on his lack of clothing.
  • After Terrako sees Zelda, it runs straight for her, only for Link to snatch it up and hold it skyward, as if he were doing the classic Item Get! pose.
  • Link, Zelda, and Impa are completely dumbfounded at both Robbie and Purah striking their poses upon meeting up with them at the Ancient Research Lab. Only Purah seems to get the hint they're not expecting to cheer.
  • While Impa does her best to be a role model, she often acts like a child when she's arguing with Terrako. Many of their interactions are akin to a big sister trying to get her little brother to behave in front of her friend.
  • During the scene where Link, Zelda, and Impa are running from Gerudo soldiers, Impa is carrying Terrako. The way its legs are draped over her arms as though it's clinging to her for dear life just sells it.
  • The entirety of Master Kohga's first appearance. When he first drops his disguise, the title card that appears to identify major characters is clearly as confused as the rest of the cast. It initially reads "Urbosa?" before being replaced by his real name when he identifies himself, complete with the subtitle "Top Banana of the Yiga Clan". When the rest of the Yiga pop in to back him up, he squares up as though he's going to fight...and instead vanishes in a puff of smoke, much to the confusion of everyone involved.
Kogha: YIGA, ASSEMBLE! Me excluded, of course.
  • Who knew Terrako could be so sassy? In Sooga's invasion of Hyrule Castle Town, he manages to hurl a kunai towards an unsuspecting Zelda. Terrako tries to use itself as shield for Zelda, only for Link to push it off and defend her with his shield instead. After Sooga flees, Zelda and Link have a brief moment together until Terrako suddenly comes marching in, angrily beeping at Link for stealing his Big Damn Heroes moment, much to the amusement of the other Champions. It ends with Link looking quite embarrassed, and Zelda giggling. What sells this is that while Terrako furiously rushes at Link, it quickly flicks away the kunai that was supposed to hit Zelda.
    • One of the three kunai Link deflects clunks poor Terrako over the head, just to add insult to injury.
  • Throughout your first mission in Akkala Tower, you have objectives to use Terrako to activate various dormant Guardians to open the path. The first two times, the Guardian wakes up and blasts away the obstruction. The third time, the obstruction is the gate to the citadel itself; when you wake it up... the Yiga clan open the gate themselves so they can run away in fear and the Guardian just slumps back down, deactivating again without doing anything aside from scaring the enemy.
  • There is a scene where Link, after a pause, digs in to some Prime Rock Roast which alludes to the original BOTW story where he once ate a rock steak. What's funnier is that Daruk sees Zelda and Impa's disbelief and realizes he doesn't have any left for them. He naturally promises to bring enough for everyone next time, an offer Zelda is too polite to do anything but sheepishly accept.
    • There is also another scene in which Zelda laments not being able to awaken her powers. While Urbosa is consoling her, the camera cuts to Link eating rock-hard food while being cheered on by Daruk and Hylian soldiers. And he does it all with the straightest face possible.
  • After the ceremony to officially name the Champions of Hyrule, Impa and the little Guardian get into a fight. The guardian constantly slaps Impa's hand away while beeping. The focus shifts away from them for a while before coming back in full force at then, with Impa angrily chasing the guardian around Revali, who is none too pleased to be caught in the middle of all this and he flies off.
Revali: Gah! Enough! Leave me out of this! If you must fight, do it elsewhere!
Impa: Come back here, you whiny little...
    Revali: Gah! Stop it!
[Losing his patience, Revali flies off]
    Revali: How asinine.
    • The line becomes his Catchphrase of sorts too.
    • The bit with Impa getting her hand slapped by the guardian is something of a Running Gag too. It even happens in the credits of the True Ending!
    • During the same scene, Mipha is discussing training with Daruk so that she can fight with Link. Before she can finish her sentence, Link, who previously appeared to be talking with Urbosa (presumably Urbosa was doing all the talking), turns around as if he heard what Mipha was saying. Mipha immediately starts to get defensive despite Link, as per usual, not saying a single thing.
Mipha: I hope to become stronger so that I can fight... alongside...
[Link turns to look at her]
Mipha: Oh! No, I-I was just... um... Ah...
  • Young Robbie's dialogues are all based on Michael Jackson complete with his "Hee, Hee!" catchphrase.
  • When Riju makes her first appearance to save Urbosa, she gets a title card to describe her as usual... and then the camera promptly cuts over to Patricia and gives her a title card as well: "The Best Sand Seal".
  • As King Rhoam commends Zelda for her courage and apologizes for how he treated her, the Yiga themselves can be seen bursting into tears at their reconciliation.
    • Following their Heel–Face Turn, the Yiga can be counted on to cheer enthusiastically at every opportunity...even when nobody is cheering with them, or in the middle of rousing speeches while everyone else is listening respectfully.
  • There is something hilarious about the fact that all the future Champions know Link (and don't bother to hide it) while not seeming to know any of the other pre-Calamity warriors, but no one addresses it or even seems to think that it's strange.
  • Hestu's introduction. Zelda, Link, and the Champions are walking through the Lost Woods bantering about the fog (specifically, Revali is complaining about the fog and Daruk is telling him to shut up) while Hestu desperately tries to get their attention by doing increasingly overdramatic and blatantly noticeable things. And yet it takes a full minute for one of them (Zelda) to even notice him. After Hestu explains the situation, he offers to guide the warriors to Korok Forest in exchange for them beating the crud out of the monsters invading it. Link, Daruk, and Urbosa follow without question while Zelda and Mipha give each other a sort of "what just happened" look and Revali gives a "I can't believe I'm going along with this" shrug.
    • Then Hestu seemingly disappears for a good chunk of the story (Cutscene-wise, you can play as him in just about any level onward, even the story ones), but then after Zelda gives an epic Rousing Speech to the united forces of Hyrule, we get a triumphant zoom-out to show the whole army, and Hestu is among them, shaking his maracas. Yes, the giant maraca-fairy that hardly anyone can see decided to show up for this.
    • Revali and Daruk's Snark-to-Snark Combat while wandering through the Lost Woods is also quite witty.
Revali: [sighs] Are we even making progress? We could just be going in circles.
Revali: As though I could see anything in this muck. Honestly, do you even think before you speak?
    • There is also this exchange after they finally acknowledge Hestu's presence.
Hestu: Shoko... I'd love to get home myself... But there are scary, mean monsters in the woods, and I can't get past them...
Revali: You could probably sneak right by if you didn't have those noisy maracas.
Urbosa: Oh, never mind him. We have business in the forest. If you lead the way, we can handle the monsters for you.
  • Like every player character, Hestu has nodes on the map that unlock upgrades for him. Like every player character, Hestu will give a line every time you give him an upgrade. Unlike the other characters, Hestu will sometimes sing the "Da! Da-da-da daaaa!" Item Get! fanfare when you unlock something for him.
  • When Link is about to cut Calamity Ganon in half, everyone has nothing but encouraging words or looks for him... except for Revali, who says:
    Revali: Don't screw this up!
  • In the second DLC, it's revealed that Terrako was found by a pair of Bokoblins who were about to bring him back to their fortress until they saw Link massacring their entire army. They then decide to hightail it out of there before they're next and drop Terrako where he was in the beginning of the game.
  • In the final cutscene montage of the second DLC "Guardian of Remembrance", Zelda is seen cooking for the knights and at first, she seems to be an excellent chef, throwing in a Hylian Shroom, Raw Meat, and Hyrule Bass into the pot before pouring in a bottle of Fresh Milk. Then she excitingly takes out a Monster Extract Bottle and adds one drop into the mix, turning this lovely meal into a horrific noxious stew. The knights behind her panic, not wanting to eat her experimental meal. The cherry on top of this hilarious scene is Link hesitantly taking a step back from the pot as well. That's right. Link, the gluttonous eater who is willing to chomp down on hot molten rocks, doesn't want to try Zelda's cooking.
    • What makes this even funnier? If you go back to Breath of the Wild and use the exact same set of ingredients that Zelda uses here, you get one of two options. Using only the first four creates the Meat and Seafood Fry, which restores six hearts. Using those four plus the Monster Extract will make a dish called Monster Stew…which only restores a quarter of a heart. The fact that it’s even edible at all is nothing short of a miracle!

Other Missions

  • The Miss Vai Battle Pageant has you going up against Impa, Urbosa, Riju, Mipha, and Zelda, with one of the Great Faeries swapping in when you choose one of the former as your player character. Makes sense. But just when you think you're done, Link literally runs in wearing his vai clothing and starts fighting you as well, much to your character's confusion.
    • You can also tackle the mission as Daruk, Yunobo, Hetsu, or Monk Maz Koshia, despite these characters being male. No one comments on it.
      • As seen in Breath of the Wild, Gorons are allowed inside Gerudo Town, so perhaps they're allowed to participate for similar reasons?
  • The Akkala Buns makes its reappearance as a reward for doing an item quest. Serves as a Brick Joke as well from Breath of the Wild as in that game you cannot cook it and you immediately consume it after buying, so you're left to guess what it was. In this game? You can cook it to finally see what it is made of and guess what, it's literally a live frog wrapped in a leaf! The icon is even censored like Dubious Food and is described as "crunchy in the outside, soft inside" - a literal Foreign Queasine.
  • The So-Called Knight challenge exists because Revali couldn't believe Link's talents while at the same time Sidon overly gushes at Link's talents. The two then agreed to literally pit Link against Rito and Zora warriors for no reason than to challenge him/make him show off, and even Teba and Mipha somehow got involved.
  • Fruit for the Princess! is simple enough - you fight through Yiga clan members in the Lost Woods for mighty bananas. What makes it hilarious though is the set-up. The characters you can only use are Link and Impa, and the description states that Zelda suddenly got a craving for a dessert that requires the bananas as an ingredient, implied to be her favorite fruitcake. Implying that she either ordered them to go get the fruit, or (considering who we're talking about) Link and Impa recklessly went into dangerous territory of their own accord as soon as she mentioned it.
  • Sidon vs. the Octorocks in which you play as Sidon and kill the Octorocks. It's a bit funny seeing the Zora Captains praising Sidon for his fighting ability during what is essentially a pest control mission.
  • The last meal recipe you unlock is the Ceremonial Platter, which was served at the Champions' inauguration ceremony. One of the ingredients required to make the dish is Flint, and one of the burgers in the item's graphic has a bun made of rock, apparently made for Daruk.
    • Heck, the fact that the Ceremonial Platter is literally just five specialized burgers for each champion is hilarious in and of itself!

Character Movesets

  • Sidon's special ZR ability lets you power up some strong attacks if done with good timing. Do it when you're not attacking? He just does his classic Twinkle Smile pose.
    • Even funnier is the fact that said pose deals minor damage to every nearby enemy. Sidon can literally defeat the forces of Ganon by smiling at them.
    • In his bio, his special ability is described as "Employs boundless optimism".
  • Riju using the glider has her hanging onto a rope under Patricia who is strapped to the glider.
  • Whenever you swap characters, the current character you have will call out to the character you will switch into. You soon realize that Link only makes grunts and becomes hilarious when he goes "Hwah!" when calling it out allies.
    • And then there's also Calamity Ganon as a player character. You have some of the characters being baffled when you switch to him.
  • Whenever you select a roster, the first character in the list will react to certain characters you pick the next. This results in some hilarious reactions.
    • Link makes unique grunts towards allies. Yes, grunts.
    • Kohga mistakes Terrako as Calamity Ganon before correcting himself.
      Kohga: For Calamity Ga-no wait...
    • Kohga also has a line reacting to Urbosa and Riju.
      Kohga: Uh... teamwork!?
    • The Great Fairies react to different male characters, with their own complements and teasing.
  • Zelda's Sheikah Slate moveset starts off as normal, if barely exaggerated, uses of the rune functions of Breath of the Wild. As you upgrade her combos however, she soon starts chucking bombs of both massive and small sizes out of thin air and riding a Magnesis-powered minecart that plows through enemies. One of her Weak Point smashes even has her chucking out a minecart, casting Stasis on it, and then spawning a plethora of bombs onto it to trigger the delayed inertia towards the enemy!
    • Her special attack somehow uses the camera of all things to damage enemies.
    • Her idle animation involves her kneeling down to pick up a frog and show it to nobody in particular, just like a certain cutscene in Breath of the Wild. She also turns away from the camera when she does this which may or may not be a reference to a meme that spawned from the aforementioned cutscene.
  • The Great Fairies are funny enough, as you got this massive foursome (and then some) deities riding in a plant bulb/fountain thing. Their massive size makes them swat enemies like flies and they fire heart-shaped lasers. Oh and the stuff they do to Link to upgrade his clothing? They use them as attacks! Yes, the smooch and flying kiss. Yes, even the "pull you into their fountain for some sweet time" - now upgraded as some vacuum attack that pulls enemies towards them before they do the deed.
    • The boss of their tutorial map is Hestu of all characters, and the way he's introduced gives the impression he wasn't even involved in the fighting, the Fairies just mistook him for an enemy and dragged him into the battle.
  • Monk Maz Koshia is a serious character, but there's just something hilarious about using the shrine traps against enemies.
    • Doubly funny if said traps were That One Puzzle for you in the original game. Now you're using them to torment your enemies. And yes, this includes those hammers from the Apparatus puzzles.
    • One of their attacks includes just shoving a relic into the ground and making a Shrine pop out, complete with the jingle. No wonder those things are everywhere if they're that easy to make. Alternatively, every enemy you use it on is just in the unluckiest spot imaginable.
  • Sometimes, when hit with a fire attack, Revali shrieks "My Feathers!" in a hilariously panicked voice.
  • One of Terrako's weak point smashes fires a full-size Guardian laser at the weakened enemy. It may be intentional, or simply due to Terrako's status as the shortest combatant on the battlefield, but he always seems to line up that laser directly at the enemy's groin...
    • On a similar note, one of Riju's Weak Point Smashes is a Sand Seal-assisted rising crescent kick. Against Hinoxes, it looks like she's kicking them in the tenders.
      • Heck, most Weak Point Smashes being used against Hinoxes tend to end up looking like a Groin Attack.
  • When Sooga uses Cryonis, he creates a pillar of ice. For his follow-up, he carves it into a sculpture of Master Kohga, which he then honors briefly. If an enemy smashes the statue, Sooga lets out a Big "NO!" and throws a devastating series of slashes onto the opponent, revealing their hit point gauge regardless of whether they were attacking or not and reducing it by almost half.
  • Master Kohga's last words if defeated in battle.
Master Kohga: From my handsome ashes, we will rise again!
