    Story Events
  • During the sequel's Adventure Mode, the Magister points out that the team will be graciously awarded if they assist in neutralizing the rampant creature attacks. Carol being Carol, she starts thinking materialistic awards, but the most unlikely source shoots her down:
Carol: What kind of reward we talkin' 'bout here? Wads of cash? A statue of yours truly? A solid gold motorbike?!
Milla: Um, I think the motor would melt a solid gold bike.
Carol: Wow. Way to crush my hopes and dreams into dust, Milla.
  • When you fight the Kakugan in the Avian Museum as Lilac, the same robot that smashed her and Carol's treehouse, Lilac calls up Carol, who wants to come and help smash it to bits as she mentioned earlier. Lilac tells her to stand down as the situation calls for a more "delicate touch", and hangs up. Her response immediately after?
  • Aaa's introduction. Just... all of it. Screeching like crazy over his wrecked bot, seemingly passing out after complaining about how much work he put into it, only to reveal that he was pulling the classic I Surrender, Suckers routine before the next stage starts. Sarah Anne Williams' voice sells his character perfectly, and the heroes' reaction to his character is priceless.
    Lilac: (Flatly)...What just happened?
    Carol: ...What.
Milla: Aww... he's all tuckered out.
    Neera: Wake up, you buffoon!
  • While everyone else rushes after Aaa after he pulls his I Surrender, Suckers trick on them, Carol still does that, though comes back on-screen for a moment to deliver this line, with a funny pose to boot.
Carol: I've heard about "fossil fuels" but this is ridiculous!
  • Aaa is named that because of his tendency to go "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"
  • When Carol finds out about the competition at the Battlesphere, she gets an expression of complete shock and awe locked on her face. Her sprite remains that way as it slides off-screen at high speed with the sound of a revving motorbike.
  • The comm conversations in Shenlin Park during Neera's scenario are particularly funny because of Neera's straightwoman status among the group.
Carol: This is crazy awesome! Beep boop, boop boop, heehaha!
    Neera: Stop that immediately.
    Carol: Nyeeeeeh!
    • And before that:
Neera: These communication devices may prove useful.
Milla: Lady Neera? Oh my gosh, you're on TV!
    Neera: (exasperated groan)
    • All the other characters' routes has Milla assume she's on TV. She gives an adorable and excited, "HI LILAC!", which Lilac reciprocates happily.
  • In the Robot Graveyard, the heroines run into Syntax, who is revealed to have survived the destruction of Brevon's Dreadnought and has the heroines state their identity before maliciously misinterpreting their words and correcting them to "intruder". When Lilac is the player character, Syntax instead corrects her name to "squidhead", pissing the girl off; clearly, Lilac is not happy with being called a familiar insulting moniker her old adversary used for her.
Syntax: (rising from the wreckage) WELCOME. PLEASE STATE YOUR IDENTITY.
    Lilac: Uh... Sash Lilac!
Syntax: I'M SORRY. I DID NOT UNDERSTAND: "sash lie lack". DID YOU MEAN, "SQUIDHEAD"?
Lilac: WHAT?! Oooooohh! Someone is DEFINITELY going to pay for that, and I get the feeling I know who!
    • That's not to say the other heroines don't have their own silly moments in this encounter, too. Here's Carol's:
Syntax: (rising from the wreckage) WELCOME. PLEASE STATE YOUR IDENTITY.
Carol: Uh... totally not an intruder?
Syntax: I'M SORRY. I DID NOT UNDERSTAND: "totally not an intruder". DID YOU MEAN, "INTRUDER"?
Carol: Well, it was worth a shot. BRING ON THE PUNCHING BAGS!
    • Milla's:
Syntax: (rising from the wreckage) WELCOME. PLEASE STATE YOUR IDENTITY.
Milla: Um... I'm Milla! I Come in Peace!
Syntax: I'M SORRY. I DID NOT UNDERSTAND: "i'm meal uh, i come in piece!". DID YOU MEAN, "INTRUDER"?
Milla: No, absolutely not! Please don't send any guard robots! Oh dear.
    • And finally, Neera's:
Syntax: (rising from the wreckage) WELCOME. PLEASE STATE YOUR IDENTITY.
Neera: This is Lieutenant Neera Li of the Royal Army of Shang Tu.
Syntax: I'M SORRY. I DID NOT UNDERSTAND: "This is lieu tenant near a lee of the royal army of Shang two". DID YOU MEAN, "INTRUDER"?
    Neera: Absolutely.
  • In the Snowfields, Serpentine confronts Milla and the heroines, demanding that they give Syntax to him, and they, after seeing him, end up erroneously believing that Brevon had returned, before they find out from Serpentine's boast that Brevon didn't return (yet). The funniest case happens in Neera's story, where, as soon as she spots Serpentine, she orders General Gong to mobilize the troops, only for her to call the false alarm as soon as she discovers that Brevon didn't come back...much to Gong's chagrin, who complains about the fact that he already mobilized the troops.
Neera: ...Cancel that, General. I spoke too soon. The situation is contained...
Gong: What?! But I already-- Ohhhh!
  • Even if the scene after Snowfields is a Tear Jerker turned Heartwarming, there is a brief moment of levity delivered by Askal.
Dail: (upon remembering Brevon's assault on Avalice, and subsequently, his father's murder) Father...
Askal: Wait, that robot thing is his dad? (referring to the inactive Syntax)
Neera: No.
  • After the heroines leave the Globe Opera, Lilac is quick to realize the group have fallen into a trap which left the Magister with only Gong to protect him; on Neera's orders, she Dragon Boosts away, with Milla Super Bursting in hot pursuit and leaving the frost knight and wildcat in the dust. Neera reassures Carol that she has a cunning plan to keep up with them: they ride Carol's motorbike to Shang Tu. With Neera standing on top instead of sitting in the back like a normal person.
Carol: Urgh... This is so uncool!
  • Mayor Zao's "+5" Running Gag returns in full force in this game, played just as hilariously, if not more so, as the first game. Case in point: when Carol points out how the Sigwada could help them, Mayor Zao brings up his own "fastest airship in the country", to which the Magister avails the team of that asset.
Mayor Zao: (groans in frustration) +5 REGRET
  • Speaking of Zao, when he is told about the attack on Shang Tu Palace, what Merga did happens to be the least of his worries, especially with Captain Kalaw working with her.
Mayor Zao: This is absolutely horrible! CATASTROPHIC! Who's going to be my Battlesphere champion now?!
Gong: A talking fish just took over all o' Shang Tu and THAT'S what you're worried about?!
Carol: Yeah! Oh, but also, dibs on the Battlesphere champion title?
  • Upon meeting Spade for the first time in the game, he greets them with a "Long time no see!", and each character responds appropriately.
Carol: (if playing as her) Long time no see. How've the Scarves been lately?
    Lilac: Long time no see.
    Milla: Long time no see!
Neera: Ugh... And we have never met. Are we done?
  • In Zulon Jungle, Merga's forces, led by Aaa, get into the conflict with the remnant of Brevon's forces led by Serpentine, both fighting over Syntax. Both Serpentine and Aaa argue during the battle like kids playing action figures trying to one-up one another while also indulging in some amusing Trashtalk and getting annoyed at each other's voices.
    Serpentine: TCHYAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Carol: (if playing as her) Crap! Not him again...
Milla: (if not playing as Carol) It's the snake man! He's back!
Serpentine: You can't hide from me, monkey boy! Return the Syntax drone to me at once! Else my overwhelming power will BLOW YOUR MIND INTO A MILLION PIECES!
Aaa: No way, ash tray! I found it fair and square!
Serpentine: TCHYAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! Your voice is so... annoying! Just give me the robot!
Aaa: No! YOUR voice is annoying! Prepare to be scienced!
Serpentine: No YOUR voice is annoying! AND I FIRE MY MISSILES!
    • As Serpentine and Aaa are fighting each other, Team Lilac discuss how to go about things. Carol and Spade, on the other hand...
      Carol: Nope. I'm out.
Spade: What? You're giving up already? What happened to finding your sister?
Carol: If I know my sister, and I do, she's staying the HECK out of this one. Way too many explosions.
Spade: And you're just going to leave Syntax in the hands of one of those mech-head bozos?
Carol: I guess. I mean, sure that's pretty horribly bad, but what else am I gonna do? Jump into all that, steal Syntax and then get out of there before they even notice?
Spade: Yes. Put that Red Scarves "training" to good use.
Carol: Ugh, I hate it when my sarcastic ideas turn good.
    • That's not to say that the Team Lilac conversation isn't funny on its own either:
Neera: This fighting can work to our advantage. If we surreptitiously aid Serpentine in his attack, we can strike a crucial blow to Merga's forces.
Milla: But Snake Man is a bad man! If he gets Syntax back, he'll do very mean things!
Neera: Better we face someone we've decisively beaten in the past. This is our chance to turn the tide of war!
Milla: No! He'll... He'll be a danger to the environment! Look at what he's done to the forest!
Neera: Are you expecting me to sympathise with TREES when the freedom of Shang Tu is at stake?!
Lilac: Ladies! I don't like the idea of either of them having Syntax. We saw firsthand how dangerous it is. Let's focus on getting it back first.
  • This exchange between Serpentine and Aaa.
Aaa: Hey! No fair cheating, you cheater!
Serpentine: I am not cheating. I'm just smarter than you. And now, nothing will stop me from- (Aaa throws a rock at his mech)
    Syntax: FOREIGN OBJECT DETECTED.
Serpentine: Ahem. As I was saying... Nothing will stop me from- (Aaa throws more rocks at him)
    Aaa: AAAAAAAASTROPHYSICS!
  • Right after Lilac/Milla/Neera or Carol/Spade formed a temporary truce with Aaa to take down Serpentine and steal back Syntax, Aaa gets off the BFF-2000 to discover that Syntax had already been taken by either team, and wonders where they went before delivering the following line.
Aaa: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! YOU GUYS ARE JERKS!!
    • Milla notes that tricking Aaa like that seemed kind of mean. Neera retorts that Aaa helping Merga take over Shang Tu was also "kind of mean".
    • Before the battle, Aaa and the heroes are perched atop a Humongous Mecha opposite Serpentine's, but there's one teensy little problem...
Aaa: No, no, no! We all have to say "activate" at the same time!
Carol: (if playing as her) What?! There's no way that's an actual thing we have to do to start the giant robot!
Neera: (if not playing as Carol) You cannot be serious! That song and dance routine is required for this thing to function?!
Serpentine: Get out of my sight, eyesores! (and he fires his missiles)
      Everyone: (unironically) Activate!!
  • After Zao's airship is shot down by Corazon, Neera radios him to see if he's okay. Cut to Zao bawling his eyes out over the loss of "Mayor Zao's Luxurious Sky Palace", prompting Neera to dryly tell the other girls he's fine.
  • After his defeat in Diamond Point, Askal gives the girls some trash talk (or in Lilac's case, a "Not So Different" Remark) before letting them go...but if you're playing as Milla, the scene lingers on him as he angrily mutters about how he just lost to a 13 year-old.
    • Meanwhile, in Neera's story, after she leaves the arena, Askal gives an Evil Laugh, believing he was able to delay her long enough for Merga to activate Bakunawa's remaining beacons. Neera shuts him up by jamming the ice flower he tried to court her with into his mouth.
  • When Carol finds herself on a ship with "snacks in the box", she's frustrated with her sister for just dumping her there, but even she has standards when Serpentine tries to recruit her... until she finds out what the snacks are.
Carol: I have food! See? (opens box to reveal...) What the—?! Raisins?! (camera zooms out) CORYYYYYYYY!!
    • Turns out the dislike of raisins runs in the family; After Corazon's final defeat and her subsequent Taking the Bullet to save Carol from Merga's attack, she deliriously (and loudly) complains that Milla's healing potions make "everything taste like raisins".
  • While Captain Kalaw is venting about his Lonely at the Top status, he's unaware that he's being filmed. Once the playable character points this out, however, he stops his ranting and quickly gets back to his confident boasting, claiming that he was under mind control. Carol even lampshades that nobody's going to buy his excuse, with the Captain still getting arrested in time for the ending, due to failing to fix his image.
    • The funny thing is that, according to one of the NPCs in the Battlesphere hub, this apparently worked, and he's the #1 favorite hero of the BFC again.
  • Once Spade runs off on his own, stealing Syntax with him to sell for money, Neera contacts Dail and tells him about what his brother had done. Dail is...less than pleased by his brother's rash behavior. Come the final arc of the story, and Dail had kept his word, with busted-up Spade confirming it himself as Dail reveals him by unrolling the carpet he wrapped him in, which he presented as a gift for Shang Tu.
    • Even funnier is how this is foreshadowed before it happens, in both Lilac and Carol's stories respectively.
Dail: (if playing as Lilac in his introduction) My brother wouldn't steal from me. I'd bust him up good.
Spade: (if playing as Carol upon meeting him) Relax. Big Bro’s the one footing the bill. He’d, uh, bust me up good if I didn’t do my job right.
  • During the final arc, Milla says she has a way to convince Serpentine to help them. Lilac and co never see it, they just that it worked. But when playing Milla's story mode:
Milla: Well we... can use them as cannon fodder and then... Blast them off the ship when they least expect it! Because we're EVIL! (forces an Evil Laugh that tapers off into a giggle)
  • And upon beating Serpentine at the Inversion Dynamo, Milla once again lets out an evil laugh, this time out of catharsis. In the other characters' story modes, they are right next to her when she does it, and Lilac in particular is unnerved by her behavior.
Lilac: (visibly concerned) Okaaaaay... Maybe 'New Milla' could... take it down a notch?
  • In the story's ending, if playing as Carol, she'll check up on her sister, who has to repair the whole palace while the Sigwada was taken away from her. Carol isn't too bothered by that, sending out puns at Corazon during that scene. She's annoyed enough that she has to run off-screen just to get away from her punny sister.
  • The above is far from the only time Carol has done this, apparently her favorite way to bother Corazon is with a Hurricane of Puns. She does the same thing (along with throwing a rock with each joke) earlier in the game to get her sister AND her airship to leave from sheer annoyance. Even Spade can't stand it.
Carol:: All right, Operation Annoy The Heck Out of Sis is a-go! Wow, that really takes me back...
Carol:: Hey, Cory! What did one volcano say to the other volcano? I LAVA YOU!
Carol:: This is taking our relationship for GRANITE!
Carol:: Maybe we could work things out if I were a little BOULDER!
    Spade:: Stop.
Carol:: I think we've really hit ROCK BOTTOM!
    Spade:: Stop!
Carol:: I'd hate to make a MOUNTAIN out of a MOLEHILL, but things between us have been pretty ROCKY!
    Spade:: STOP!
Carol:: Let's talk about the old times! Get a little SEDIMENT-AL!
Spade:: For crying out loud, that's enough!
    Carol:: ...Rock pun!
Spade:: (Grrrrr gonna... pin you under a boulder...)
  • In the ending, After Lilac leaves Shang Tu to try and find Merga, the other girls wonder how long she'll be gone. Milla, who by now has learned that she's actually an alien, has an idea of how to lure her back early. Bonus points for the music fading out right before she proposes her idea, helping to sell the moment.
Milla: I could put on a cape, laugh maniacally, and declare my plan to conquer the world.
    Neera: Please do not.
  • Also during the ending, Neera Li is crowned regent of Shang Tu. Though she's honored by the Magister's decision to place her in the role of leading their nation...
Neera: I... I would be honored, but surely there are others just as loyal...
The Magister: Perhaps... But none of them have battled a water dragon centurion on a spaceship that was about to eat the moon. (Without missing a beat) That is both a rare sentence and an achievement.

    Hub Areas and Characters
  • Shang Tu's blue duck guard returns, and yes, he still only says "weh". There's also a green duck guard who complains about how everyone always mistakes him for the blue one.
  • Shuigang's palace has a painting of Dail's father, the previous king, in the background. Said painting depicts him with a finger pointed upward and his mouth comically open, just like King Harkinian in the infamous "Link, muh boi!" meme.
  • Judie, an otter in a shark costume pretending to be a Water Dragon, spouts propaganda-ladened reassurances regarding the safety of Parusa. These become increasingly less believable as the events of the game unfold. By the end of the game, she's decided she's had enough of lying and quits her job.
  • After the volcanic eruption is rerouted thanks to Milla's "Ultimate Sanction Makeover Potion", talking with various NPCs reveals a newfound obsession with the rainbow-colored lava that resulted from it.
  • Time Capsule entries, recorded by Cordelia and can be viewed through Pangu, reveal the details about her and Merga's past history, along with a few moments that can evoke a chuckle or two:
    • "Attack of the Siopao Hog": Cordelia once decided to take a stroll and take some siopao from her favorite stall, only to discover that Merga was ahead of her, her favorite stall turning out to be the same as hers, and she also took all of siopao for herself. However, she could spare one siopao...which she places on top of Cordelia's head before leaving with a smirk, much to Cordelia's annoyance.
    • "Revenge of the Siopao": Cordelia decides to take her revenge on Merga for hogging all of siopao for herself by bringing a basket full of siopao and then telling Merga that she could spare one siopao, in a manner of Ironic Echo. Her describing Merga's thoroughly unamused response is just an icing on the cake.
Cordelia: I have never seen a flatter stare.
    • "Flowers for Merga": Cordelia discovers that Merga is interested in flowers after she identified the flower in her head as sampaguita. When Cordelia asked does Merga know the name of more than one flower, Merga took offense and dragged Cordelia off to the nearest garden, where she proceeded to describe the names and uses of nearly every single flower in the garden.
  • The gallery has a few chuckle-worthy moments:
    • When you repair the exhibit for the vehicle Corazon uses in her second boss fight, there is only one display to repair. When you do so, the whole thing gets rebuilt on the other side of the room, and a Corazon plushie appears in the display you just spent your money on.
    • In a similar venue, Herald's exhibit has a single part where you need to spend a Gold Gem. This unlocks... a baseball.
    • One part of the Developer's Room contains sprites from a scrapped in-game ally role and dojo fight for Spade, with him explaining why it was cut. At the end of the explanation, he mentions that he was able to be suave and informative at the same time.
    • Also in the Developer's Room, Sabrina introduces the blue bird guard's concept art exhibit by saying "weh".

    Stages and Gameplay

  • If you crouch for long enough as Milla, she'll flip onto her back with her paws in the air while wagging her tail, as if expecting belly rubs. It's both funny and incredibly adorable.
  • Milla's rail grinding animation has her grind on her feet, hands, and rump compared to the other heroines. Given the fact that she is always barefoot, her surprised expression gives off the fact that she does not enjoy it in the slightest.
    • And while Lilac and Carol are each simply prepared to tackle the grind rails, Neera, whenever she's using one, simply crosses her arms and acts casual about doing this. One could say that she's pretty chill about this situation.
    • A later update added in a special easter egg when grinding on a rail as Neera. If done correctly, she gets a pair of Cool Shades, which is as equally, if not more funny than the original animation.
  • While the other girls exclaim excitedly upon opening a treasure chest that contained an unlockable, Neera simply remarks "Oh, joy" or a simple "Hmph", showing off her Deadpan Snarker tendencies.
  • Shade Armory involves Syntax popping up every so often to hinder the player by pulling back platforms and switches until she's slapped away.
  • In Ancestral Forge, Gnawsa Lock will occasionally pop out of nowhere and steal a keyfish right from under your nose - all while laughing maniacally.
    • At the end of the level, after his boss fight, Gnawsa Lock attempts to block an object that just arose from the ground, blowing a raspberry. Thing is, that it's one of the objects you've been using the entire level to fly back to the main hub of the level. Cue Gnawsa Lock getting launched away, allowing you to finish the level.
  • In Bakunawa Rush, there's a mini-boss called Discord MK. 2 that the girls have to bust through twice. Come the third time, though, Serpentine charges through and wrecks it himself to save them the bother.
