* Eorzea uses its own measurement system based roughly on the Imperial system. The base small measure, the Ilm(Inch), is roughly the size of an adult Hyur's thumb. Apparently before it became standardized, there were arguments between those who measured using a Lalafell's thumb(usually when selling) or a Roegadyn's(usually when buying). There was one particular argument that was solved when they decided on a Hyur's thumb as the base. Consequently, the small mass unit, the Onze, is the ''weight'' of a Hyur's thumb.

* Because cutscenes use the game engine, whatever clothes you wear will be reflected as such in the cutscene. This also means you can create a MoodWhiplash and ruin epic or serious scenes by wearing a silly outfit or be in nothing but your underwear. This also applies to the scene in ''Endwalker'' where Zenos is in the Warrior of Light's body and is about to attack the Scions while wearing whatever you were wearing previously. This means that even if he is in a Chocobo outfit or is wearing a bikini, Zenos is still menacing and isn't bothered by your choice of clothes, or lack thereof.

* In retrospect, the entire debacle of 1.0 is quite funny. A great summary of all the issues and how badly it was initially handled is parodied [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWIrju3F6nU here]].
* The release of the 1.0 version of FFXIV had many issues as everyone knows, but one that was Japanese only was chocobos were called "horsebirds" because the outsourcee used it as placeholder and forgot to change it. This caused a massive outcry within the Japanese fandom and eventually they renamed them back to chocobos (the English translation went with "chocobo" from the start). References to the old name are littered throughout the game in goofy ways, even in the English translation, with moments such as the Doman refugees who had never seen a chocobo before referring to them as horsebirds, or one line the Warrior of Light can say during the Stormblood Hildibrand quest that they are broke due to a gambling addiction, betting on horsebirds specifically. Somewhat amusing if you don't know the history behind the term, even funnier if you do.
* At a panel, lore writer Christopher Koji-Fox explains that he came up with Nald'thal, the trader gods of commerce and the underworld, ''solely'' [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CS--izSnbNk because he wanted "Thal's bloody balls" as a swear in Eorzea.]]
* During Wrestling/{{Wrestlemania}} 33, ''Final Fantasy XIV'' was one of the many things sponsoring the event. What did Squeenix do to make the most of it? Oh, nothing much, just get Wrestling/TheNewDay [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_Xt4MaDwwY to dress up as some of their classes proudly]]!
* For 2018's April Fools, the creators unveiled a new app; [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drq5ER6MHAM Final Fantasy XIV: Gathering Outdoors]]. An interesting concept on its own, where users can use their smartphones to gather resources for their characters while they're not at their computer, but it's propelled to a new height by the revelation that the only way to guarantee the gathering is successful is to put your phone on a selfie stick-like contraption and then swing it at rocks, trees and lakes.
* For the release of the Companion App for mobile, Square collaborated with a Japanese police department a PSA [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2sVZbN1yU8]] (and then later released a subbed version of said PSA) about cautioning players to be aware of their surroundings while on their phone. The drive the point in, they show a Lalafell on his phone getting into all sorts of mishaps; first he is walking down the streets of Ul'dah when he bumps into Ungust (a minor villain in the early 2.0 story) and is chased by his men. In the next scene, the same Lalafell is walking through Corethas when he gets run over by a Garlean driving a Magtiek Reaper and is sent flying before the camera cuts back to the Garlean who is also on his phone and winds up crashing into a wall. In another scene, the same Lalafell is too busy on his phone while his party is trying to fight Titan. Said Lalafell is hit by Titan's Landside attack and goes sailing down into the pit below. In the final scene, he finally puts away his phone as he flies on his chocobo towards the sunset.
** Even funnier? The Lalafell is wielding a spear. [[MemeAcknowledgement Where have we heard of Dragoons dying in easily avoidable ways before]]?
** This is even funnier with the release of the Regalia via the ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyXV'' event. One of the emotes you can use? The Tomestone emote. Which means, yes, [[HypocriticalHumor you can drive down the road while looking at your cell phone.]]

* [[https://youtu.be/gmffV4oKZu4 During an interview at E3 2019]], Yoshida was asked if there was a plan to bring 1.0 back via legacy servers, much like what Blizzard did with ''[[VideoGame/WorldOfWarcraft World of Warcraft Classic]]''. His response was a simple "[[NoJustNoReaction NIGHTMARE]]!"
* Leading up to the release of ''Shadowbringers'', Square-Enix released a [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aqju18pcq6U commercial]] featuring Creator/TomHolland [[SeriousBusiness training hard for the expansion's release]], leaving his roommate [[Series/TheEricAndreShow Hannibal Buress]].

* In the 2014 Fan Fest, a fan asked Yoshida if there were any plans to make Stoneskin be applicable on the whole party instead having to cast it one player at a time. Yoshida pretended to be exasperated by holding a pretend controller, pressing a few buttons, shouting "NEXT!", and repeating a few times to show how annoying single target Stoneskin was. The patch following the Fan Fest added Stoneskin II to address the issue.
* In China, one of the cross promotions involved [[https://www.pcgamer.com/chinese-ff14-players-are-eating-inhuman-piles-of-kfc-to-earn-chocobos/ receiving a code for a Fat Black Chocobo mount by eating at KFC]]. The catch? You need to order a Family Deal for Four[[labelnote:*]]1 Double Chicken Burger, 1 Vegan Mushroom Burger, 1 5-piece Chicken Nuggets, 2 Original Recipe Chicken, 1 2-piece New Orland Chicken Wings, 1 Old Beijing Spicy Duck Roll, 2 Pepsi (Large), 2 Peach Oolong Tea (Large)[[/labelnote]] and dine-in at the establishment, for one code. For single individuals going for the mount, they proceeded to treat it much like a raid instance in itself, and traded advice on how to best tackle the situation. Someone even alleged that when they went to the bathroom, the found the staff had emptied the table when they came back, and then brought out a fresh order to start all over.
-->You MUST distribute the damage from the Pepsi, don't let it stack...
* The first live letter for Patch 5.1 at the Tokyo Game Show 2019 was largely dominated by the upcoming release of [=YoRHa=] Dark Apocalypse. As a result much of it involved the FFXIV and Nier teams talking on stage about how it came to be. There are quite a few gems out of it. Some highlights include...
** Yoshida has a tradition where if he wants to do a collaboration with another series he invites the key people behind the series in question out for a steak dinner to talk about it. Yoko Taro stated that until that happened he was convinced the FFXIV team didn't like them as at that point they had done a collab with Garo, Yokai Watch, and just about everything else ''except'' for Nier Automata.
** Yoshida and Yoko Taro have a brief back and forth about if Square Enix is stingy or not.
* The second live letter for 5.1 ends on the preview for the third Ultimate fight, the Epic of Alexander. It looks like an epic showdown against Alexander Prime, Cruise Chaser, and Brute Justice (who ratchets up the hype dial by ''riding Cruise Chaser'' into the arena), which is pretty much what all the high-end raiders wanted since Ultima's Refrain. And which of these hulking bosses do we fight first? [[YankTheDogsChain None of them.]] In the game's best example of a BaitAndSwitch to date, all three of the bosses warp away and are replaced with... a little metal ball containing water. Cue equal parts laughter and horror from the entire playerbase as they realize the Epic of Alexander starts with ''[[ThatOneBoss Living Liquid]]'', whose Savage fight is the most notorious raid static killer in the game. EarnYourFun seems to be in full effect.
** It got better when the fight went live. Similar to The Weapon's Refrain, there is a mechanic in the fight [[ViolationOfCommonSense that runs contrary to what you'd think would keep the party alive]]. The trouble is, the hint for this mechanic is ''not in the fight itself'', but rather the Alexander story lore: that Shanoa is the keeper of the ''Enigma Codex'' and was secretly sent by Alexander to help the Warrior of Light defeat him. Shanoa appears in the Epic of Alexander, and doing its mechanic in a certain way gives you the ''Enigma Codex'' buff, which enables you to survive the last phase of the fight. The kicker here is that many hardcore raiders take a PlayTheGameSkipTheStory approach to just charge into content as fast as possible, and thus would ''never'' figure this out themselves; the group that got World First only pieced it together from a datamine and invoking TryEverything. The writers got their revenge this day.
** Another good "gotcha" from the dev team happens during the DualBoss phase with Cruise Chaser and Brute Justice, namely the attack that Brute Justice opens the phase with: [[ThatOneAttack Judgment Nisi]]. This is ''Manipulator's'' attack, the boss of [=A4S=], and said boss doesn't even appear in the fight. For context, many players who cleared [=A4S=] would opt to skip Judgment Nisi entirely by ''letting players die'' and then reviving everyone with a Healer LimitBreak. Not only is this "strategy" not possible in [=TEA=] due to how Brute Justice's mechanics work, but Judgment Nisi was made ''even worse'' by requiring the whole party to handle the mechanic, whereas in [=A4S=] only half the party was needed. The developers of [=A4S=] got their revenge too.
* During the 2021 Fanfest, Soken came out to sing "La-Hee" [[note]]a.k.a. "Civilizations", the background music for The Rak'tika Greatwood[[/note]]. And performed with with two otamatones. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBt4zT_PBmw The result has absolutely no words to describe the outcome]], well, perhaps Keiko, the Pianist, and her [[https://i.redd.it/63oiayze2bz61.png expression]] can give you an idea. The fact that he calls it "La-Hee" instead of its actual name is quite hilarious.
* Also at the 2021 Fanfest was The Primals and Koji performing "A Long Fall", but with four members of the dev team doing a brief coordinated dance number and wearing shirts matching the colors of each role you'd see in a light party. A wholesale reference to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NApxz5bSl20 a meme that saw more than a couple variants]] over the life of ''Shadowbringers''.
* The ''Endwalker'' Job Action trailer opens with a really cool and well done interpretation of pins with the job icons on a table moving to dodge attacks like they would in a proper encounter... though if you look [[FreezeFramebonus on the last frame they show them]], [[NeverLiveItDown the Dragoon pin is off of the table.]]
* The Live Letter before the release of ''Endwalker'' shows a new character who is called Lady of the Light. The translator laughed as she quickly realized that if you abbreviate the character's name, it's literally [[FunWithAcronyms LOL]].
* On December 16, 2021, the dev team made the decision to remove the game for sale on all copies, and even disable the Free Trial, due to the sheer server congestion from ''Endwalker's'' release. Think about it, how often do you actually witness a moment where the developers are basically saying "''Please'' stop buying our game, we're suffering from success"?
* On November 9, 2021, ''[[https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/topics/detail/7b6585ff08785d972713a102b91277899c10458e The Ultimate Final Fantasy XIV Cookbook]] was released, joining the new trend of teaching readers how to make cuisine and drinks featured in the game in real-life (most of the dishes having been based on real food, just with in-game lore reflavoring). What makes it funny, is that introductions and additional notes to each recipe are written from the in-character perspectives of Gyohan, a traveling Namazu culinarian, and Mogria, a moogle of Moghome, as they travel about learning and trying the various recipes and meet with characters of interest, leading to certain situations.
** You can finally try a Kupo Nut! Or rather, you can try Gyohan's attempt to recreate the flavors of a Kupo Nut in a snack/energy balls style dish of ground nuts, seeds, and dried cherries because Mogria always immediate eats any of the real deal when she finds them. Mogria, is [[{{Understatement}} somewhat offended]] by Gyohan's interpretation.
---> '''Mogria's note:''' Gyohan, what are all of these ingredients, kupo? '''Kupo nuts are just [[SuddenlyShouting KUPO NUTS]]!'''
** The very first recipe in the breakfast section and the book entirely, is an Easy difficulty recipe for Almond Cream Croissants. Then apparently after that, Gyohan served them to a certain [[AuthorAvatar Wandering Minstrel]], who out of appreciation (or hunger), ''composed and sang a song about Croissants'' and had a certain familiar effect on Gyohan as the retelling of a certain hero's stories about battling epic foes. Cue the second recipe, '''The Minstrel's Ballad: Almond Cream Croissants''', with a recipe difficulty rating of ''Extreme'' and a total estimated time of completion equal to ''29 hours and 30 minutes''. And its written in the style of a 4 phase trial or raid boss guide. Listening to ''The Primals'' music in your kitchen while making this is optional, but recommended.
** Another recipe shown is Chocobo Cake. The description from Mogria very quickly makes it clear, this is the same cake players use for their MotivationOnAStick method to convince Fat Chocobos to defy all logic, laws of physics, gravity, and aerodynamics to fly.
