Ah, Darkstalkers. A series filled to the brim with grim themes, things that go bump in the night, and....a dance contest show?!
The Games
- Felicia can sit on top of everyone's head, allowing for some bizarre reactions from the fighters.
- Lord Raptor's Hell Dunk attack. It's crazy enough that Lord Raptor has a heavy metal zombie motif going on, but he can even turn you into a basketball and style on you.
- Anakaris' Pharaoh's Curse, which can turn even the most badass warrior into a Ridiculously Cute Critter.
- When fighting a female fighter, Huitzil's introduction has Cecil blush and open his arms to her before Hutzil silently grabs him by the back of his shirt and places him out of the way.
- After kicking the opponent out of his coffin at the end of his ES Mummy Drop, Anakaris manages to slam the coffin's door shut on his own hand.
- A great amount of the humor in the game is watching how certain attacks affect each character, including the above-mentioned Pharaoh's curse and Hell Dunk, being burned by a fire attack, being electrocuted (and see some of the odd skeletons some characters have), or, most famously, Dimitri's Midnight Bliss, where he turns the enemy into a female version (or gives female characters more revealing outfits) before sucking their blood.
- Victor's fighting style in general. How many games can you say are out there that let you play as a version of Frankenstein's monster that has multiple different attacks involving hitting and grappling his opponents with his ass?
- Lilith's "Gloomy Puppet Show". Pictured above, Lilith throws a top hat at the opponent. If it hits, Lilith changes into a Playboy Bunny costume and it forces the opposing character into an Involuntary Dance controlled by the Lilith player's light, medium, and heavy punches and kicks. It's almost impossible to succeed in and when failed, Lilith holds up a sign showing a large red X (or lightning bolt, in some cases) with the stage either suddenly disappearing and causing the opponents to plummet, or lightning striking the opponent. Seeing characters like B.B. Hood and Jedah of all people being forced to dance on a stage against their will is just purely hilarious.
Western Animation
- Lord Raptor in conversation with his agent:Agent: Raptor, baby, you need a gimmick!Raptor: A gimmick? A gimmick!? How many bleedin' zombies play rock?!Agent: (utterly deadpan) You'd be surprised.
- Morrigan magically growing a huge hand
just to Bitch Slap Felicia. - Anakaris is not all there. Understandable, as he has been mummified, and thus has no brain. Most of what he says is Word Salad."Anakaris, the Supreme Pharaoh, has awakened! All hail the imperial ... Pudding! There are lizards in my pants!"
"Onions are tickling my brain." - Lord Raptor´s Piss-Take Rap from the eleventh episode. It has to be seen to be believed.
- In one episode, Demitri gets attacked by a bunch of cats, causing him to run in a very undignified way◊.
- The Running Gag of people mentioning that Rikuo is oddly attractive for a Fishman, to the point that he lampshades it in the final episode.
- The fact that in the final episode half the cast, including big guys like Victor, Sasquatch, and Rikuo, can all fit in a normal-sized taxi cab. Maybe it's a TARDIS.
OVA
- "Beelzebub's bollocks! Where'd those things come from!?" An Aensland noble's comment upon seeing the Phobos for the first time.
