  • Sam being a brat and getting Mason in trouble early in the film.
  • Mason and his friend ogling an underwear catalog. Later, while he's part of Bill's family, the boys are doing it on the internet.
  • The part where Mason Sr. has Mason Jr. and Sam helping him put "Obama/Biden" signs on people's lawns. Mason makes the mistake of approaching a conservative man with a confederate flag on his house if he can put the sign on his lawn, to which he asks incredulously, "Do I look like I support Barack ''Hussein'' Obama?" Soon afterwards they are seen stealing people's "McCain" signs and putting them in Mason Sr.'s trunk before driving off in a hurry.
    • Just to show that liberals aren't exempt from mockery, they then get into a conversation with a woman who gushes about how she has the hots for Obama.
  • Mason Sr. giving a very embarrassed Sam his talk about the importance of using contraception and not getting pregnant.
  • The "Redneck bar mitzvah", in which Mason Jr.'s step-grandparents give him a bible and a gun for his 15th birthday. Grandma explains that the bible's a red letter edition, while grandpa proudly recounts how the shotgun has been in the family for generations. The humor comes from the political and generational Values Dissonance, since Mason is more liberal like his father, not very religious, and as a young man would probably have more use for a game console or a secondhand car, but it's still presented as sweet and well-meaning. He actually kind of likes the shotgun and practices with grandpa.
  • Mason Jr.'s boss checking out his mom at the graduation party.
