Funny / Babe: Pig in the City

Go To

  • Pretty much anything involving Mrs. Hoggett. Never has the misfortune of an older lady been funnier.
    • "Do you have any clothes that fit me?" short, rotund Mrs. Hoggett asks of tall, willowy Miss Floom. Lampshaded by an ever-so-slight clearing of the throat, and Miss Floom looking just the teensiest bit startled. However, she could indeed deliver—thanks to the clown wardrobe of her Uncle Fugly.
    • The poor courtroom stenographer struggling to keep up with Mrs. Hoggett's rapid ramblings.
    • After she's released from prison, Esme returns to the hotel, still drenched in the glue that fell on her before she was arrested. Soon after she wobbles her way up the stairs, she spots Babe's tracks on the floor. She bends down to examine them more closely... and her dress immediately rips open with a large snap. Then she turns around, which gives the audience a rather embarrassing view of her backside.
      • She also doesn't seem to care much about how exposed she is, as her immediate concern is Babe's location. As bumbling as she is, no one can say that she's not focused on her goals.
      • The novelization takes it further by having her dress shatter after the Landlady shocks her, which gives her more of a reason to wear the clown costume.
    • When Esme and the Landlady arrive at the Metropolis Institute of Medicine, they are led to the back entrance of the kitchen by Flealick. A chef is there on his break, and his reaction to the sudden appearance of these two uninvited women on a clown bike... is to grunt a disinterested and flat greeting, as if this happens every shift. Which Esme innocently returns before beginning to explain that they're looking for some animals, which also doesn't surprise him. He's clearly so used to the wild and surreal environment of the city that nothing fazes him anymore, not even a portly woman dressed in a clown costume asking for the location of animals like a pig and monkeys.
      • It's also rather funny how Esme simply asks him in her usual friendly tone for information, as if she's merely asking him for directions. Doubly so considering that, mere seconds after this brief interaction, she and the chef begin fighting each other when he tries to stop her from invading the kitchen.
    • Shortly before the movie's climax, Esme and the Landlady spot their animals, including Babe, in the ballroom's kitchen. Esme immediately runs after her pig, and comes close to catching him... only for the chefs guarding the kitchen to give chase and grab the suspenders of her clown suit. They're stretchy, but unable to prevent her from being flung back into the kitchen with a surprised yell. Karma, however, acts very quickly, as she falls directly on top of the chefs who got a hold of her. Considering the fact that she's not exactly very lightly built, those guys probably ended up immediately regretting what they just did.
  • When Thelonius makes the rest of the animals wait for him to get dressed before escaping from the lab.
  • The cat choir.
  • Ferdinand insists on pursuing Babe on his trip, and after a while, he manages to arrive in the city with the help of a pelican. Unfortunately, this new place proves to be just as unkind to him as it has been for Esme and Babe; he accidentally lands in a shooting range, where the trigger-happy customers waste no time in trying to use him as a live target. He barely escapes with all his feathers.
    • It's also implied that he invented a sob story to con the pelican into carrying him in his beak until they reached the city, simply so he wouldn't have to fly all the way there himself.
  • The entire Ballroom Blitz climax is this, mixed with a few awesome moments as well. Esme and the Landlady invade a fancy dinner party to rescue all of their stolen animals, with Esme swinging from the chandelier like an acrobat and angrily demanding the return of Babe while wearing a ridiculous clown costume. Things get even more crazy when a waiter accidentally pulls off a tag that activates the suit's inflatable tights.
