A Growing Fire In My Heart

• Ember decides that her first rule as Dragon Lord is hugs are legal. Doubly funny considering how awkward Ember was with hugs at first in canon, not even starting to get used to them until Season 8.
• Ember and Spike's awkward goodbye after both try to get over the shock from Ember kissing him on the cheek.
  Ember: Um, I have to go. Dragon Lord things and all... yeah.
  Spike: Um, me too! Talk later?
  Ember: Yes! Definitely!
  Spike: Great!
  Ember: Alright!
  Spike: Okay!
  Ember: Good!
  Spike: Right!
• When Ember and Spike meet up with each other at the start of chapter 3, the first thing the two of them do is hug each other. A few dragons watching them snicker at this, until they are shut up by a quick Death Glare from Ember.
• While Ember and Spike are taking a break from flying lessons, Spike lets out a small burp after eating some gems and waterskin and excuses himself. Ember just smirks, and gobbles her own emeralds and waterskin before letting out a giant belch that causes the cave to rumble. Ember claims it is a habit she picked up being raised by her dad.
• When Ember is stressed over a good gift to give Spike for his birthday, her friend Aquafire jokes that if he means so much to her then she should just give him a Gods Blessing, which is basically the dragon equivalent of an engagement ring. Ember is completely embarrassed by the suggestion while Blitz laughs at it.
• When Ember and Spike end up sharing a Convenient Slow Dance together, Ember can see Blitz, Aquafire, and Spike's friends all snickering together making Ember believes this was intentional.
• Ember gets totally jealous when Spike happily greets Rarity at his party, and goes to drown her sorrows in some punch. After finishing sixteen cups and demanding another from the bartender, needing to threaten him a bit to get it, Ember wishes they were actually alcoholic.
  • What's more, after having a heart to heart with Aquafire about her jealousy, she says she needs to use the bathroom quickly after drinking all that punch.
• Everyone's Stunned Silence when Twilight announces the first part of her plan to save Spike is that tomorrow Silverback will announce that Dragon Lord Ember has died. Blitz asks her, if she is dead then if he can have her Fire Ruby Collection.
• When Thorax demonstrates his ability to shapeshift, he changes into Ember and does a twirl while showing himself off. Ember comments she never twirls like that, and asks if her butt is really that big.
  • This gets a Call-Back when they put their plan into action, when Thorax acts as the "dead Ember", and Ember examines her own "corpse".
    Ember: I still think my butt looks too fat.
    Aquafire: You can look at your dead butt later, we need to focus.
• The team manages to sneak through the Redskull clan by using special gems provided by the Crystal Ponies, which make the dragons that make them sick. This results in most of the guards stuck in the bathrooms, or busy outside if they can't find any unoccupied rooms.
• When one of the guard's in Lord Redskull's work quarters questions why Garble isn't at Ember's funeral, Garble acts uninterested and insults Ember. He is grinning the whole time at being able to insult her, knowing she is within earshot and not being able to do anything about it.
• Garble's attempt to distract the two guards in his father's quarters is to lie to one of them, Vandrix, that the other, Ortho, is gay and said he thinks Vandrix is cute, attempting to instigate a fight between them so he can steal the key to the dungeon. Only, it turns out Ortho really is gay and likes Vandrix that way, and so does Vandrix too. This results in the two dramatically revealing their feelings and making out, while a shocked and disturbed Garble grabs the key while they aren't looking. Everyone outside the room, who was listening in, is equally disturbed.
  Ember: We never speak of this again.
  Everyone else: Agreed.
• When Twilight's group tries to snatch the key in the barracks, a changeling sneaks in disguised as a pony-sized mouse. After he gets the key though, he is spotted by one of the dragon guards there. The guard reacts by giving off a girly scream and yelling there's a mouse in the room, causing everyone to freak-out and run for their lives. Hilarity Ensues as the big strong dragons all act like scared little girls over the "mouse", with only a few brave enough to try to kill it, and suffering Amusing Injuries for their efforts. They all resort to Playing Possum when they lose sight of it. Forget Elephants Are Scared of Mice! Who would have thought dragons were?
• When everyone is shocked to see how big Spike has gotten while under the effects of the rage potion, Ember can't help but feel both intimidated by him, but also find him a bit handsome too, and wonders if this is close to what Spike will look like in a few hundred years as he grows up naturally.
• When Ember is downed by the rampaging Spike, before the cure can take effect, she begins quietly begging Spike to stop, as he slowly closes in on her for the kill. Then, just as he is about to close his teeth on her, Ember suddenly screams at him, "Spike, you idiot! You kill me and I’ll kick your butt as a ghost!", and that is what gets Spike to stop and recognize her long enough for the cure to take effect.
• Ember's reaction to seeing Spike's new adult body:
  • When told there was a "small problem" by Twilight, Ember worries how bad it is at first. Then when she sees Spike, she gets a Jaw Drop and Twitchy Eye, believing this isn't bad at all.
  • As the narration describes over Spike's new body, it says in a few years every dragoness would be jumping on him... and Ember would be tossing them into a lake for it.
  • While great description is given for most of Spike's new body, especially his face, which Ember finds "perfect", the last part is her believing that "she was sure no dragon’s nose was supposed to look that cute".

A Burning Flame In My Soul

• In a bit of a Leaning on the Fourth Wall moment, Chantler Leafseeker muses to himself that he would like to write about the tale of the Dragon Lord and her lover. Too bad for him that tale was already written.
• Spike and Ember's loving relationship makes for a few funny moments early on.
  • After a sparring match with each other, Spike asks for a kiss from Ember as his "Last Request", with her playing along over not being able to resist a request from a "handsome dragon" before the two begin making out.
  • Spike recalls how when their relationship first turned sexual. One night while they were in heat led to them sleeping together, and Spike considers that night "awesome"... even though they had to replace the bed later.
  • Smolder ends up being a Moment Killer for the two of them, knocking on the door during their passionate moment, while also warning them they better not be screwing each other like last time, even remarking how her eyes are still reeling in horror from it. Smolder in general is very vocal about how disgusted she finds their affection.
• Discord was responsible for Rainbow and Applejack getting together, after he tricked Rainbow into thinking Applejack was dying so she would give an Anguished Declaration of Love to Applejack. Then when the two of them consummated their relationship, they were so loud the rest of the family had to leave the house, while Big Mac and Sugar Belle tried to avoid giving their son The Talk too soon.
• Smolder requests to Ember that when she and Spike finally have kids not to make her babysit them, remarking how she had to do it for Sandbar and Yona's kids once and nearly shipped them off to Saddle Arabia.
• Spike recalls how even though he loves his girlfriend, he couldn't help being a little jealous when he saw Blitz's glowing face the day after he, Aquafire, and his fiancé all had sex together for the first time.
