Friend's misanthropic screeds seem a little weird given he's revealed as the Big Good but make sense when you realize he's planning on using the Brutes to exterminate his people.
When asked how he and his men felt about being made to till the land, Zed said that they were hunters, not farmers, and ate meat. The only thing the Exterminators were shown or said to hunt were other people.
