• Debbie and Kevin follow on the tradition of Griswolds having names a generation too old for them. The original National Lampoon's Vacation was set in 1983 based on a short story set in 1958, with the names carried over intact.
• James's revenge on Kevin is extremely mild, he doesn't even beat him up but rather holds him down and annoys him and that's the point He's showing Kevin that it would be so easy to beat the crap out of him if he wanted that it's not even worth the effort because there is absolutely nothing Kevin can do to stop him.
