Fridge / Twin Star Exorcists

Fridge for Twin Star Exorcists.

Fridge Horror:

  • Early on it's strongly established that the orphanage Rokuro grew up in was effectively to turn him and the rest of the children there into Exorcists. Complete nobodies that have the potential to be one are raised to be a Child Soldier, fight impurities and perpetuate a war that's been going on for a thousand years. As the story progresses, numerous characters also die violently and pointlessly, and the survivors are all wracked with immense grief — because for the most part, many of them are the younger generation, not yet used to such sorrow. And this has happened repeatedly, continuously, for generations upon generations, albeit nowhere near as fiercely as the story's present.
  • Ryougo said early on that Rokuro was his one and only little brother in the world. Aww, how sweet, they're so close! Wait... The only one because of their closeness, or because all the other Hiinatsuki children died?
  • Rokuro and Benio managed to save Ryougo from the haunted house's Impurity. Then you remember eleven people had disappeared before him, including two children. Chances are that they were all dragged in Magano and killed. Oh.
  • Both Rokuro and Benio suffer of Flashback Nightmares from their respective traumatic experiences. Rokuro started shaking when he had to fight again, and since the tragedy had a big shift in personality, preferring to avoid fighting altogether. Benio started acting rather irrational when she first confronted Kamui, and she too was shaking afterwards. Do they have some kind of PTSD? At fourteen?
  • In the manga, the Impurity who kidnapped Mayura is a regular one, but in the anime, it's a fallen Impurity that took the appearance of a small child. Let that sink in for a second. A human turned into an Impurity that takes the appearance of a human... chances are that this was what she looked like in life. That's right, Yuuto turned a small child into an Impurity. What happened to her parents? Are they still looking for her, or did she kill them?
  • Seigen kills Tooru Fushihara while talking to him, as if they had known each other. After all, they were both exorcists in neighbor towns, it's entirely possible. Fridge comes in when you examine some of the photos of the Hinatsuki children seen in the manga... That boy standing a little taller than Ryougo, isn't that Tooru? We already know that Seigen had been an instructor in Hinatsuki, at least for some time, before Rokuro's arrival. In short, Seigen had to kill one of his former pupils. What did Hinatsuki residents do to Yuuto?!
  • As it turns out, Benio is an Impurity in human skin. Flashback to when Kamui restored her legs: white is seen simply peeling off her, revealing darkness underneath.
    • This revelation also explains Higano's enigmatic statement that Benio was one of them from the beginning. She is and always was an impurity. This is the fate of all the female twin stars.
    • Some fans has joked this is the reason that she could drink the Benio Special, since Impurities can't eat human food.

Fridge Brilliance:

  • Early on, multiple Impurities called Rokuro "Seimei". Turns out his guardian spirit is Abe no Seimei.
  • Seigen mentioning that "Rokuro is the strongest of the East" is only valid on the main land. He was referring to the island, of course.
  • Seigen initial attitude towards Rokuro was actually meant to keep him away from fighting Yuuto while he defeated him himself. Okay. But why agree to come alone and not just dispatch someone unrelated to do it? Because Seigen wanted to take responsibility for the death of his students. He probably felt guilty for not realizing what Yuuto was up to.
  • When Seigen notes that he won't be able to hold back against Yuuto, he lied. He only equipped one claw.
  • In chapter 15, Yuuto mutters something about Rokuro's Yang form. He doesn't finish what says and looks out into the distance. Chapter 71 reveals Yuuto knew about the King of Impurities and Abe no Seimei. Yuuto was probably looking back at where Seimei is being held captive and realising what gave Rokuro his power.

Fridge Logic:

  • Why didn't Rokuro know that Mayura was coming along with him to the island? Because he was distracted by his own fight, and then unconscious the whole time she was fighting Higano. By the time Hijirimaru is defeated and he could focus on something else, she had been rescued by Arima. In short... he probably still doesn't know that Mayura is now a Heavenly Commander by the time of their departure.
