It is suggested that, for all their snide contempt for "the Thin Man" (aka Sherlock Holmes), both Moriarty and Moran are utterly terrified of his brother, "the Fat Man" (aka Mycroft Holmes). Which makes sense, given that in Kim Newman's Diogenes Club series said "Fat Man" is the founder and chief officer of an intelligence organisation which routinely defends Britain against supernatural terrors and eldritch horrors that make even a murderous crime-boss academic like Moriarty look like the organiser of a knitting circle.
