• Brave New World features Picard making an argument about spreading Iconian gateway technology that relies significantly on MAD logic, specifically using the term and citing how it worked on Earth. All well and good... until you realize that in Star Trek, it ultimately didn't work — the Cold War might have ended without a nuclear exchange, but the conflict between ECON and the USA's alliance-system led to World War III and then to the Post-Atomic Horror. That's just Earth history, there are several other examples of MAD logic failing strewn about in the pre-change timeline.
