Fridge Brilliance

  • The Mafia's code of honor regarding women revolves around the Madonna-Whore Complex. Disguising Deloris as a nun not only hides her from the view of the Mafia hit men, but also makes them bound to protect her. This also explains why the hit men are so unsure about killing her in the climax, when they'd been a very real threat to her before.
  • It's been noted that Whoopi Goldberg's singing voice is decent but falls short when heard next to the professional singers providing the choral vocals. It makes sense, however, for Deloris to have a passable but weak voice in-universe. She's introduced as the lead of a low-rent lounge act performing for uninterested patrons at a seedy casino — meaning she's never been talented enough to break into more reputable venues. By the second movie, she's become a best-selling act in Las Vegas, but it's clear it's because she has the budget for a flashy show to wow audiences through spectacle rather than her singing abilities.
