Fridge / Scooby-Doo! Legend of the Phantosaur

Fridge Brilliance

  • The movie explicitly takes place while the gang is still in high school and the movie starts out with them in their hometown. We know from the Mystery Machine's license plate in Frankencreepy that they live in Crystal Cove (which is in California, likely near Long Beach/Los Angeles), it makes sense that they went to New Mexico in this movie as opposed to somewhere farther away, because they still need to get back to school (though you may still have to apply cartoon logic, as it would take around half a day without stopping to get from about Los Angeles to roughly Albuquerque on I-40).
  • Shaggy beats up an entire biker bar after he gets hypnotized to be braver. And nothing else. Which means he's always been physically capable of doing that, but he's been too much of a coward. If you want to go all WMG on it, how much of the gang's adventures have been Shaggy quietly arranging things so the bad guy gets caught, while pretending to be a bumbling coward? Come to think, he runs around with a Great Dane in his arms all the time, and can easily keep up with that Great Dane on foot...even though Great Danes can run at roughly the world record record speed for humans.
    • To be more realistic, Shaggy's backstory tends to have him as a gymnast. Shaggy is very lean, fast, and flexible. You don't eat as much as him and stay thin so his metabolism is through the roof. Given his choice of career, he gets plenty of exercise and by this point, a guy with a knife or a chain is probably a lot less dangerous than a living computer virus that shoots lightning, a trio of werewolves, a witch, or anthing else they've encountered so far. Plus, this is after he received samurai training among gaining other skills. All he needs at that point is to have the courage to apply everything he's learned thus far.
  • Mr Hubley's Cloudcukoolander attitude is Fridge Horror when you realize it may be a result of overexposure to his hypnosis equipment.

Fridge Logic

  • The Phantosaur's big illusion was effectively being a hologram with a paint stripper shooting flames backing it up. The most we get as an explanation for how this managed to work in town, was to have paint strippers prepped around the town at key points. Because the "creature" is entirely see-through due to its hologram nature, how did no one notice with all the car smoke, or ever see the paint strippers that are apparently Hidden in Plain Sight launching off fireballs and streams of flames from above? The way the movie pulls the guise off, the paint strippers would even have to be moving with the Phantosaur most of the time, which would've made the ruse fall apart even faster if the movie didn't go to such lengths to cover it up until The Reveal.
