Fridge Brilliance

  • The film was criticised on some parts of the internet, on the grounds that Aaron Johnson didn't look much like John Lennon, or behave like him. Johnson plays Lennon as gauche, touchy, uncertain and vastly over-compensating for some deep inner lack of confidence. But that's the point. This was not a film about John Lennon, Beatle and public figure: it's about a teenage boy who will go on to become that person. Only in the very last scene of the film, when it's jumped forward a couple of years and he's about to go to Hamburg, does Johnson's Lennon seem as confident and mature as the man he would become.

How well does it match the trope?
