  • Fridge Horror:
    • Given the ingredients we see, it appears it would be very easy for the pegasi who make rainbows to accidentally whip up some love poison.
      • Fridge Brilliance: This may be why they have those protective suits. Also, the reason the love poison recipe is public knowledge is so that every pegasus understands the vital importance of not shedding any feathers into the rainbow mix tank ever. What the CMC were reading was an occupational safety warning!

    • If you can't look into each other's eyes for one hour to break the spell, you can't sleep. You close your eyes to sleep, which would mean not looking at each other for hours on end, ergo breaking the spell. It's implied the original case with the Prince and Princess in the book that their situation went on for days.
      • Fringe Brilliance, that's why you don't see every pony in a sickeningly sweetheart state, both ponys wear themselves out (for whatever reason) and fall asleep. Next morning the two are back to normal.
    • Love Poison isn't just an (accidental) allegory for a date rape drug, it's the PERFECT date rape drug. It's dirt cheap, can be made in two minutes on your coffee table, makes the target completely, irresistibly enamored with the rapist and unable to fight back, lasts exactly as long as the rapist wants it to, and leaves no marks. And it certainly doesn't help that the instructions outright encourage you to give it to somepony who "isn't in the know".
      • It's not clear that the Love Poison could be used in that manner: depending on if Exact Words is in play, it might not work on only one pony. That doesn't make it any less magic mind control, of course. And the implications potentially become even creepier if both ponies have to take it.

  • Fridge Brilliance:

    • A minor one: the Pegasus feather isn't necessarily a vital component or catalyst of the love potion. It's simply the only stirring tool capable of making physical contact with the love potion's ingredients.
    • Why would Twilight let the CMC borrow a history book that contains a recipe for a love potion? Well, she probably assumed that after the events of "The Cutie Pox", the CMC, especially Apple Bloom, would know that potions can be dangerous and wouldn't dare try to get involved in making one.
    • Mrs. Cake remarks that "Well, these lovebirds will probably be planning a wedding soon." Of course she'd say that, but about Big Mac in particular? Well, that's about how Bright Mac acted towards Pear Butter when they were young, and she was there to watch their whole courtship.
