• Doubles as a Shout-Out, but the film makes a lot more sense if viewed as a side-story to the British-Canadian sci-fi series Orphan Black. In both works, a large corporation has a business venture in the form of biologically engineered humans, and spends several years developing them. In Season 3 of Orphan Black, the organization (called Topside) sends a risk assessor/cleaner in to see if the engineered humans (clones) are worth the trouble. The same way that Syn Sect sends in Lee to assess Morgan. For all we know, Syn Sect could just be another branch of Topside. However, the biggest connection is that in both works, the cleaners refer to a Noodle Incident called Helsinki where all of the previous attempts at engineering humans were killed as well as their associates. And both times, the incident is looked back upon as crude but necessary. It works almost seamlessly.
