Fridge / Meet Joe Black

Go To

  • At first glance, the entire conflict about whether Susan should be taken by Joe right now or not makes no sense because of The Problem with Fighting Death; as in, Joe could have just waited till Susan's time comes. Fridge Brilliance, however, states that in his human form Joe began to experience time rather differently (Bill correctly guessed that being human took its toll on Joe) so some extra years without Susan probably seemed to him to be much longer than were he in his usual timeless form. His newly found appreciation of the human sense of time is hinted at in his threat to Drew at the end - by that time Joe had actually understood that to a human even a day might seem long enough, let alone a millennium.
    • Yet another related Fridge Brilliance is that it might be part of the reason why Death decided to bring real Joe back to life after all - so that the connection between his human form and Susan wouldn't be severed until the time comes for her to go straight back to him. In that light his reply to Bill that he "not exactly" said goodbye to Susan might take on a whole new sinister meaning...
