Fridge Brilliance

  • At the beginning of the (in-story) Doctor Who level, the Doctor suggests that the trio call the space station they're on "Dave". Guess who shows up later, annoying GLaDOS to no end by calling her this?
  • During the Doctor Who Level Pack level, the Doctor is very expository, telling you to watch out for this and that, very video game tutorial like. Why? Because in this case, he's either got a companion in the form of player 2, or you as the player are his companion when he's otherwise alone.
    • And K-9 is there, so he could be talking to him.
  • In the Back to the Future level pack, Marty has the hoverboard, despite having never gone to the future at this point. However, he did get it in the movies during the year 2015, which is the year this game was released.
  • Of course Mr. Burns would have a "days without otherworldly invasion" sign; Kang and Kodos have invaded Springfield in a multitude of the series' Treehouse of Horror episodes.
    • The counter before Mr. Burns changes it counts the amount of days between LEGO Dimensions' release and the episode where Futurama crossed over with the Simpsons.
      • And the sign is actually right! The number on the board is exactly how many days ago the Futurama crossover was released (or at least, it was how long ago on the day the game came out).
  • When playing as the Wicked Witch, she can't swim. If she falls into water she dies, or if she's flying and you accidentally fly into water you'll shoot upwards instantly. She doesn't want to melt, does she?
  • During the end credits, GLaDOS sings that Batman is her friend because he won't kill her. Batman has a no-kill policy.
  • Why is Wyldstyle afraid of ghosts? Her mentor died and became one right in front of her.
    • Also Gandalf and Batman have their own reasons not to be afraid. Batman knows a few ghosts like Deadman and Gentleman Ghost, while Gandalf's allies fought alongside ghosts.
  • Bane, as noted in his character page, suffers from Motive Decay, as he has proved his dominance over Batman in the past. The first thing we see him doing in this game? Stealing a ton of Kryptonite. What does he want with Kryptonite, you ask?
Batman: The same thing everyone wants with Kryptonite-to take down Superman.
  • Although Gamer Kid is obviously part of the Midway Arcade franchise, it is unclear of which dimension he's actually IN during Retro Wreckage. Then you realise that he's practically in reality, in other words, an alternate version of our dimension.
  • In the first level Batman declares Oz to be a hallucination, confusing the brainless Scarecrow of Oz for Jonathan Crane. It's played for laughs, but at the end of the movie Oz does seem to have been a hallucination Dorothy had after she sustained head trauma in the tornado.
  • In Retro Wreckage, Gamer Kid only comments on Defender, Gauntlet, Super Sprint, and Robotron 2084, all implied to be his favourites. These same games are featured in All Your Bricks Are Belong To Us.
  • WHY don't the Weeping Angels simply attack the heroes when they're not looking? YOU can see them.
    • Considering the characters in question, this also counts as Fridge Horror
  • An awesome one: The Doctor Who theme is used for the level results screen for the two Doctor Who levels, which makes sense for it's usage. But taking the Level Pack level into account, which was themed after a real episode, it all builds up to this CMOA: YOU had just played/watched an episode of Doctor Who, and THAT level results screen you are staring at blaring the iconic theme, you are looking at the credits.
  • Why would Sonic, of all series, show up in this game? Well, it wouldn't be the first time Sega and TT Games have worked together, would it?
  • The Foundation Element from the Simpsons universe isn't just an ordinary rod of radioactive material- it's the Inanimate Carbon Rod!
  • At first, the Arcade Token is a random choice for Midway Arcade's Foundation Element, until you remember what generally all arcade games relied on for you to play, giving it a whole deeper meaning.
  • In the Harry Potter world, you can come across the Potter Memorial Statue, which in-universe shapeshifts depending on if a Muggle or Wizard is looking at it.note  It also does this in-game depending on which character you put near it, but besides Harry Potter, Gandalf and the Wicked Witch can see the statue's true form because they're both magic users!
  • The Flux Capacitor isn't just listed as a Foundation Element, it's the thing that made the entire plot of Back to the Future possible. Foundation Element INDEED.
  • The Year 2 levels show some cameos of participating franchises. Given that the events of Year 1 caused several barriers to be destroyed, it's likely that all the characters are able to travel between dimensions at will.
    • Why is it so easy to do that now? Batman, Gandalf, and Wyldstyle literally broke the Foundation of All Dimensions, so all the dimensions started clashing. Albiet in a less harmful way than what Vortech was going to do.
  • It makes sense that the Foundation Of All Dimensions is a Green Baseplate, after all, it's what practically everyone starts out with!
  • In one Sonic cutscene, Knuckles tries to help Omochao out of the ground when it's stuck. Why is Knuckles the one to do this? Because their voice actors are married.
  • In the Harry Potter world, the Thestralsnote  can only be found by Wyldstyle, Good Cop / Bad Cop, or Chase McCain using their Relic Detector. During The LEGO Movie, Wyldstyle and Bad Cop both saw Lord Business behead Vitruvius. In LEGO City Undercover, some red-clad astronaut mooks got destroyed by a giant fan, and Chase's subsequent comment suggested he witnessed this regardless of where the player had him facing at the time.
  • Why the Gauntlet Thief gave back the Arcade Token back in the first place. It's implied that despite being a villain, he still has to follow the in-game rules, which can explain why he doesn't have the token after you win the race. But after you legally win it, he steals it again. Since the token was no longer in his possession, that meant that he once again had a right to steal it.
  • Why does the Doctor has the largest role in the story outside the main characters? It's because he's the only person who has any sort of experience dealing with alternate dimensions.note
  • Betelgeuse offers to protect Slimer from the Ghostbusters, "both the good ones and the bad ones". Even if you didn't hate Ghostbusters: Answer the Call, those 'busters might seem more "bad" than the originals when you recall that Abby's and Erin's book inspired Rowan to unleash all those ghosts on New York. There's also the much more obvious fact that they accidentally got Bill Murray's Remake Cameo character killed.
  • One of Chase McCain's idle quotes has him talking to the player. Given that he specifically asked Professor Kowalski how he would explain to a child about how a highly-advanced piece of equipment like a forcefield generator would work, it practically cements Chase as a Fourth-Wall Observer.
  • Lord Business' presence prior to his Heel–Face Turn. An unused line indicates that Lord Vortech has some control over time, so he likely picked him up prior to this.
  • The unreleased Lord Vortech figure confirms where he was sent after being defeated: Earth.
  • When recruiting GLaDOS, Wyldstyle gets offended when the former insults her hair. The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part revealed that it's actually dyed in an attempt to seem more mature.
  • People have complained about the Doctor's other incarnations not having original voice acting, with William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, and Jon Pertwee being exceptions for obvious reasons. But if you were to apply the logic that LEGO Dimensions is based on the creative imagination of a kid, it would make sense that only the latest Doctor, at the time Peter Capaldi's Doctor, would have more flexibility on what he could say. New fans of Doctor Who, especially children, wouldn't be too interested in seriously watching older Doctor Who episodes, regardless of how popular previous actors were who played the Doctor, apart from whatever they could casually find on places like YouTube.
  • Both Simpsons levels feature secret areas from the Flintstones and Jetsons. There are two reasons for this.
  • The Portal level ends showing GLaDOS had access to a gateway similar to the one on Vorton. It's implied Chell's level takes place after the main game's story, where GLaDOS went to Vorton, so it's likely she took to replicating it.
  • It seemed so weird that Dorothy's friends were shown to be okay in their Adventure World, but Dorothy herself was just absent until Year Two showed she was okay. The other three have quests based on what they want, a brain, a heart, the nerve. What does Dorothy want? To go home. She just took a while with all these new dimensions.
  • There's a seemingly random bit in the main story where a Dalek is serving tea to the Doctor, despite them hating each other. It makes more sense when you consider the Doctor's own level ends with him reprogramming Davros' whole fleet. Maybe he kept one.
  • Why are certain villains fought in certain dimensions?
    • Lord Business and the Joker are fought in Springfield. Business is a Corrupt Politician and Corrupt Corporate Executive similar to Mayor Quimby or Mr. Burns, plus he's yellow. The Joker is a Monster Clown with little regard for human life, essentially a more evil Krusty the Clown. One could also compare him to Sideshow Bob. The Joker also provides a final bossfight in a giant robot at Burns' office.
    • Lex Luthor and Sarumon are both fought under Chen's island because, like Chen, they're seemingly good people hiding their horrible nature. Lex is a business man who helped build Metropolis, but he's willing to tear down anyone or anything that gets in his way, and loathes superheroes. Sarumon was once a friend of Gandalf, but betrayed him to join Sauron.
    • Lord Vortech is fought in both Hill Valley and the Scooby Doo world. The first one shows how little regard Vortech has for how he affects other dimensions, juxtaposing Back to the Future's insistence on not screwing with time. The second shows us what he looks like under his mask, fitting Scooby Doo's theme. Also, the fact that this interdimensional monster is fought in Scooby's world may be a nod to how not every monster the gang met, be they friendly or not, was just someone in a mask.
    • Sauron is fought in Metropolis because his goal to plunge humanity into darkness and slavery is similar to Superman's nemesis Darkseid. He also comes from a world of magic, something Superman is weak to. He also has Daleks, alien invaders powered by hate that completely juxtapose Superman, a benevolent alien that protects Earth. Two-Face is also there to fit the theme of hate and oppression. Harvey and Bruce were once friends, but as Two-Face emerged, he became a constant enemy to Batman and lost himself to the oppressive crime rate of Gotham.
    • Riddler is in Middle Earth because, like Gollum, he enjoys riddles. Plus, Edward Nygma is addicted to getting answers to just about everything. Chances are if he found a world as supernatural as Middle Earth, he'd go there to learn everything he could.
    • Zod is in the New York of Ghostbusters as a nod to the Phantom Zone he was trapped in. Barring that, he, like Superman, is weak to magic, but the ghosts of this franchise have been categorized as something more than supernatural by the Ghostbusters, they boiled ghosts down to science and species rather than something just magic and unexplainable.
  • Similarly, the three Story Packs in Year Two relate to the franchises of the three characters we start out with in LEGO Dimensions. In the very same order they enter the original game's story no less.
  • With both The Lord of the Rings and The LEGO Batman Movie, and by proxy The Matrix represented in this game, Agent Smith's cameo in one of the previous LEGO games makes much more sense now.

Fridge Horror

  • Let's hope the Nestene Consciousness never realizes that everything is made of plastic bricks.
  • We saw what happened when Wheatley was in charge of Aperture Science, so now, at the end of the Portal 2 level pack, what'll happen with the Space Core in charge?
  • One of GLaDOS's quotes in the Portal 2 Open World is, "The Enrichment Centre advises that despite their nutritious appearance, the Material Wealth Incrementation Spheres are not edible. The Enrichment Centre takes no responsibility for the loss of teeth, or life, caused by attempting to eat one." Seems all fine and dandy until you realize that this could very well be a reference to real-life kids who tried to eat LEGO. God, that is dark!
  • Dana Barrett is a citizen in peril on the ghostly Titanic. Unfortunately, she's in her Zuul-Dana getup, which means that freeing her may have been a bad idea. (In actuality, they just used the figure from the then-upcoming HQ set.)
  • One of the gold bricks in the Mars section of the Doctor Who Adventure World is in a space-base's garden, and you reveal it by turning on the water. Considering there are two centuries of Earth's history right next door...
  • Sonic is implied to have Aquaphobia because of when he first went to Labyrinth Zone. What makes this especially horrifying is that Classic-styled Sonic, according to Sonic Generations, was a child...
  • While the LEGO Batman games merely alluded to "The Killing Joke" being canon with the inclusion of Joker's iconic vacation clothes, this one outright confirms it with one of Batman's lines being a call to Oracle.
  • Let’s hope the sight of Lydia Deetz on Saturn doesn’t mean that she died during adolescence.
  • The amount of damage Lord Vortech has done to dimensions has some disturbing implications, Gotham and Metropolis have been spliced together, with Atlantis put right under it, and if LEGO DC Supervillains is any indication, it seems it stuck. Springfield, Hill Valley, and numerous other locations weren't exactly left in one piece either in the main story, and one has to wonder how these affected the people there.
  • Both the Adventure World and Tri level depict Gotham City with the Bat Signal in the sky. It's a good indicator that you're in Gotham City, but then you remember what the signal is for, and why it's running. Batman and Superman disappeared into dimensional rifts, Lord Vortech spliced their respective cities together, and Sauron nearly turned Metropolis into a hellscape that Darkseid would be proud of. The Bat Signal is turned on because the people of Gothametropolis have been trying to call for help.
