Fridge Brilliance

  • Of course Dogbert's cynical, the Greek word Kynikos (that cynical is derived from) means dog-like.
  • I spent a lot of time scratching my head over the evolution joke in the animated series. An endorsement of Creationism seemed downright bizarre on a show that had mocked religion more than once. The fact that the joke was based around the premise that Evolution was "only a theory" on a show this smart seemed jaw-dropping. Then it hit me: Dilbert couldn't explain WHY it was called a "theory." The joke was that being right about something you don't understand is no better than being wrong.
    • Scott Adams believes (or claims to believe) that Evolution will be scientifically proven untrue by the end of the 21st century because it relies on the basic assumptions that effect always follows cause and time always moves in a straight line, both of which he believes will themselves eventually be widely understood to be untrue. That could factor into it.
  • In the TV series, Dilbert used his perpetual calendar program to look up future dates. He looked up the 30th of June 2014 which he said was a Thursday. It was actually a Monday. This just seems like a mistake (or like the writers not bothering to look up the day). He also looked up the first of January 2222 and asked Dogbert to speculate what day this was. Dogbert sarcastically suggested it will be a Tuesday (based on the high number of twos in the year), which Dilbert denied. The thing is, it actually will be a Tuesday. This may still just be a mistake/coincidence, albeit an amusing one. However, when one realises the episode is about the Millennium Bug then it becomes plausible that Dilbert's computer getting the post-Millennium days wrong was intentional foreshadowing.
Fridge Logic
  • In the animated adaptation, not one plot makes any coherent sense even in context, nor is it intended to.
