Fairy Tail is a manga series by one Hiro Mashima, author of the Rave Master, Monster Soul, Monster Hunter Orage and later series Edens Zero among other works.

The series focus on a world where magic is commonplace and wizard guilds are formed to do various jobs through the land. One of such is a town name name Magnolia where the titular Fairy Tail guild lays. The series focus on a young girl named Lucy Heartfila who is a fan of the guild and, by sheer coincidence, happens across one of the prominent members, Natsu Dragneel, and his feline companion, Happy, who lead her to it and invite her to join. From there, other members of the guild are showcased such as Gray Filbuster and Erza Scarlet who become prominent characters through the series among other mainstays and additional members who join on through the series. Along the way, the guild encounter threats to themselves, their city, kingdom and eventually their world as more of the myth of the series opens up and secrets of the guild are revealed.


The original run of the series began in 2006 and ended in 2017 with an 11 year run and 62 volumes worth of material. However, the series proved immensely popular with an anime, two movies, a sequel manga and several spin offs to it's name.


  • Fairy Tail (2006-2017): Original series. 62 Volumes.
  • Fairy Tail Zero: (2014-2015) Prequel series that focuses on Fairy Tail's founder and what lead to the formation of the guild. One volume. Season seven of the anime is adapted from it.
  • Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest: (2018-) Drawn by a different mangaka, though Mashima still works on storyboards. Picks up after the original series ended.


  • Fairy Tail Ice Trail (2014): Prequel series that focuses on Gray Filbuster when he was younger and what happened between leaving his mentor and his travels that lead him to the guild. Two Volumes

  • Fairy Tail Blue Mistral (2014-2015): Focuses on the wind Dragon Slayer, Wendy, and her cat Carla and their own solo adventures. Four volumes
  • Fairy Girls (2014-2015): Focuses on the female cast of the series and their own exploits. Four volumes
  • Fairy Tail Gaiden: Three one volume series that focuses on specific characters.
    • Twin Dragons of Sabertooth (2015): Focuses on fellow guild, Sabertooth and their Dragon Slayers, Sting and Rouge.
    • Rhodonite (2015-2016): Focuses on former villain turned guild mate, Gajeel Redfox and two adventure before and after the second Time Skip in the series.
    • Lighting Gods (2016): Focuses on Laxus Dreyar and his group the Rajin Tribe.
  • Fairy Tail S: Compilation of one shot stories that popped up during the series run. Two volumes
  • Fairy Tail Happy Adventure (2018-): Focuses on Happy who ends up in a alternate world inhibited by anthropomorphic animals.
  • Fairy Tail City Hero (2018-): Alternate universe series in which the guild is portrayed as a police force and dealing with criminals of their town.


  • Gained one in 2009. Went on hiatus in 2013 and returned in 2014 under a new studio. Another hiatus followed in 2016 before resuming in 2018 for the remaining story.


  • Fairy Tail the Movie: Phoenix Priestess (2012): First movie. The guild help a immortal woman try to prevent the re-awakening of a phoenix which could destroy the world.
  • Fairy Tail: Dragon Cry (2017) Second Movie. The guild end up tasked with stopping a dangerous criminal trying to find an object of immense power.
