Cuphead originated as a Run-and-Gun video game that was created by brothers Chad & Jared Moldenhauer over the course of four years (starting in 2013 and eventually releasing in 2017). Its overall aesthetic is a painstaking homage to the cartoons Max and Dave Fleischer made in the 1930s (with the original game being animated frame-by-frame, among other things). After its release, several other projects in other media were released featuring the same cast.

The game's plot centers on Cuphead and Mugman, two drinkware-headed brothers who have a penchant for getting themselves into trouble. The pair end up getting the raw end of a Deal with the Devil and must contend with several other unusual characters (as well as their even more surreal transformations) to get out of it.

  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: A Cuphead costume for Mii Gunners was released as DLC on January 28th, 2020. Buying it also adds the song "Floral Fury" to the game. Later, four Spirits — Cuphead, Mugman, the Devil, and King Dice — were added to Spirit Board, with minor differences to their corresponding battles if the player owns the aforementioned costume.
