"Hey, House Management! Explain what that 'and others' means!"note

Warm (original title: Топло ['toplo]) is a 1978 Bulgarian comedy film.

It's a cold winter in Sofia, Bulgaria, in 1975. The government is planning to install central heating in large sections of the city, but the inhabitants of one leaseholders' association are left just outside the planned area. Desperate for warmth, they hire some black market workers. All goes to hell when those workers drill huge holes in the walls and make off with the prepaid money, leaving the job unfinished...

No relation to the visual novel, Warm (2019).

Tropes featured in Warm include:

  • 20 Minutes into the Past: Released in 1978, set three years prior in '75.
  • Ambiguously Jewish: Snegov, between his first name being Veniamin (the equivalent to Benjamin) and saying he "always hated that gesture" as a comment on his right arm being fixed forward and up when he's been hospitalized.
  • Boxed Crook: The tenants make a deal with the prison boss to have the three scoundrels finish their job under police supervision. Meanwhile, they take turns to fill in for them at the prison so that everything matches what's on the books.
  • Cranky Neighbor: Mr. Snegov opposes the renovation because of his murals. They end up damaged, and he pesters everyone about it.
  • Mysterious Animal Senses: The tenants use a dachshund to sniff out the fake workers.
The Customs Officer: Great man, that dachshund!
  • Recruiting the Criminal: The tenants resort to an attempt to bust the scoundrels out so that they can finish their job.
  • Roofless Renovation: The "workers" drill huge holes into the building's walls and leave. All tenants are outraged, but also learn to use the holes for easy communication or passing commodities to each other, which ends up both improving their relations and worsening them. Snegov also drops his dentures into his neighbor's room when he's poking his head into a hole to bicker with him.
Snegov: Liffle girl, giffe my teetf back!
