Beach Party heroine!

The Batwoman is a campy 1968 film by director René Cardona. (Santa Claus (1959), Night of the Bloody Apes etc) The film stars the titular Batwoman (Maura Monti) who is less of a superhero, and more of a wrestler / detective, is hired to take down the evil Dr. Eric Williams (Roberto Canedo), an evil Mad Scientist who plans on kidnapping wrestlers and turning them into Gill Man in an attempt to rule the world. While featuring tons of scenes of the characters scuba diving and tons of fan service.

As you can guess, it was obviously made to cash in on the success of Batman (1966), and has nothing to do with the DC Comics, nor does it have anything to do with The Wild World of Batwoman, besides both being MST3K featured films. For tropes related to it's Mystery Science Theater 3000 click here!

The Batwoman provides examples of:

  • Action Girl: The titular Batwoman herself (real name Gloria).
  • Absurd Phobia: Gloria is afraid of mice during the end of the film.
  • Beehive Hairdo: Gloria when she isn't in her secret identity.
  • Cool Car: Gloria has several but they are lacking in any bat theme, though one is identical to the one from the Sixties American Batman program without the adornments.
  • Eek, a Mouse!!: The film ends with Gloria being scared of a mouse.
  • The Igor: Simply just named Igor here.
  • Heel–Face Turn: The Gill-man during the climax.
  • Mockbuster: Of the Batman franchise.
  • Ms. Fanservice: As The Cinema Snob pointed out, The Batwoman outfit is more revealing then the one in Bat Pussy.
  • Non-Idle Rich: Gloria avoids being a Rich Idiot with No Day Job as she does have a day job in addition to being a millionaire playgirl. She is a professional wrestler.
  • Obfuscating Disability: To find wrestlers that can be used to create Dr. Williams' Gill-Men (and later to place a tracker on Batwoman to allow her to be attacked by the Gill-Man, Williams' main henchman poses as a blind man that sells lottery tickets to wrestlers and those around the gym area.
  • Take Over the World: Doctor Williams intends to create an army of fishmen to take over the world's oceans.
  • Pro Wrestling Is Real: Gloria competes as a professional wrestler (as Batwoman) and wins her competitions fairly.
  • Those Two Guys: Mario and Diaz are her sidekicks, constantly working to help her.
