You sure about that, Gloria?
Stage Struck is a 1925 silent comedy film.

Working a crappy job as a waitress, Jenny Hagen (Gloria Swanson) dreams of becoming a famous actress, particularly because her crush, Orme Wilson (Lawrence Gray), is obsessed with actresses. One day, a show boat brings the glamorous actress Lillian Lyons (Gertrude Astor) to town. Lillian catches Orme's eye, and now, we've got a Love Triangle on our hands.

Not to be confused with the 1936 film or 1958 film by the same name.

This film has the examples of:

  • Affectionate Gesture to the Head: Orme ruffles Jenny's hair after being unimpressed by her attempt to look fashionable.
  • Broken Treasure: After Jenny accidentally ruins one of Orme's shirts, she buys a new one to replace it. He has no clue and marvels at how the laundry place manages to make his old shirts look so new.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: Jenny is frequently involved in slapstick hijinks. Her Catchphrase is, "I just did it to be funny."
  • Destination Defenestration: Referenced: "Throw her out the window — and don't open the window!"
  • Dream Intro: The opening sequence portrays Jenny as a famous actress, before revealing that this is a dream she's having and actually she's just a poor waitress.
  • The Flapper: It's 1925, and Lillian has the fashionable flapper look down pat. Jenny tries and fails to emulate it by altering her outdated Edwardian-style clothes.
  • Funetik Aksent: Mr. and Mrs. Wagner speak with German accents, which are rendered phonetically on the intertitles containing their dialogue.
  • Hysterical Woman: Invoked in-universe. In her acting final exam, Jenny is expected to play a woman who has been left by her husband and responds by throwing herself against the door, shrieking "Abandoned! Abandoned!", and then Fainting.
  • Ironic Nickname: "Tiny" is the nickname of a very large woman.
  • Just the Way You Are: Surprise! It turns out Orme likes Jenny just the way she is.
  • Match Cut: Used when the film transitions away from Jenny's dream. In her dream, she's a famous actress, playing the role of Salome with John the Baptist's head on a platter. It then fades to real life, in which she's a waitress and the platter holds the food she was supposed to be serving.
  • Splash of Color: The opening and closing scenes are in color.
  • Stocking Mask: Jenny wears one as "the Masked Marvel"
