Search Party is a 2014 comedy film directed by Scot Armstrong, starring Thomas Middleditch, T.J. Miller, and Adam Pally.
The story centers around a groom-to-be, Daniel "Nardo" Narducci (Middleditch), who ends up carjacked and naked in Mexico after his Manchild friend Jason (Miller) disrupts his wedding and causes the bride, Tracy, to storm out and go on their honeymoon vacation in Mexico alone. Hilarity Ensues as Jason and Nardo's other friend Evan (Pally) road trip down to Mexico to rescue him and reunite the couple.
Garfunkel and Oates makes an appearance at the beginning and end of the movie as wedding singers.
Tropes:
- Every Car Is a Pinto: Evan's company car explodes after Hugo hits the gas tank with a fire arrow. Later, Elisabeth's company car also explodes after the gas tank is punctured by a stray bullet and the leaking gasoline ignites.
- Femme Fatale: Christy, an attractive woman Evan flirts with in a casino. She jokes that she plans to drug Evan and harvest his kidney. It turns out to be no joke, and Jason has to bust Evan out of Christy's hotel room while he's incapacitated from numbing drugs, while she and The Amazing Hugo prep their kidney-harvesting tools.
- Funny Background Event: When Nardo gets to the resort where Tracy is, he is seen running across the lawn naked and covered in cocaine before being tackled by security while Tracy checks out.
- Manchild: Jason is an immature, dim-witted slacker who is not so secretly jealous of his friends for succeeding in their careers and moving on with their lives without him.
- Mistaken for Pedophile: Jason hires an 11-year old boy to create fake passports for him and Evan, but when his mom catches them, he tells her that they were paying him for sexual favors.
- Naked People Are Funny: Nardo spends over half the movie naked. In that time, he is robbed at knifepoint when he manages to get a pair of pants, gets chased through a birthday party, and ends up in the back of a cocaine-filled pickup truck, before being confronted by three very angry drug lords.
- Organ Theft: Christy and The Amazing Hugo have a side hustle where Christy lures men to her hotel room, then drugs them to steal their kidney. They do it rather messily too, and don't mind letting the guy bleed to death afterwards.
