Film / Rob the Mob

Go To

A movie about a couple who... well, the title kind of says it all.

Directed by Raymond De Felitta, and starring Michael Pitt, Nina Arianda, Ray Romano, and Andy García.

This film provides examples of:

  • Based on a True Story: A picture of the real-life couple is shown after the last shot.
  • Downer Ending: What did you expect? Look at the premise. It doesn't end well for our leads.
  • Exactly What It Says on the Tin: The title really sums up the story, and it ends about exactly as you'd expect.
  • Honor Among Thieves: Big Al gives a pep talk about solidarity, trying to invoke this, although at that point, the first rat has already jumped ship.
  • It's Personal: Mobsters killed Tommy's father.
  • Oh, Crap!: When Ray Romano's reporter realizes that the FBI are not going to protect the main characters.
  • Outlaw Couple: The main characters. They're nicknamed Bonnie & Clyde when the newspaper covers their activities.
  • Right Hand Versus Left Hand: Appears to be the case when a cop shows up outside the second club while it's being robbed. The FBI agents think somebody must have heard the gunshots and are worried that the cop will interfere, but it turns out he's just helping an old woman cross the street.
  • Robbing the Mob Bank: Well, robbing the mob social club, but yeah. And they're doing it on purpose.
  • Sealed with a Kiss: The protagonists' last action is a kiss...
  • Spies In a Van: One of the mob's clubs and Big Al's house are bugged, the FBI listening from a van outside. Unusually, Al knows about the ones in his house, and uses them to transparently address the listening agents toward the end.
  • You Killed My Father: Mobsters killed Tommy's father, one of the main reasons he wants to steal their money.
