A 1984 American comedy directed by Herbert Ross and written by Buck Henry, that has a cocktail waitress (Goldie Hawn) saving the life of Emir (Richard Romanus).

The movie also stars Chris Sarandon, Andre Gregory, Gail Strickland, Cliff DeYoung, Keith Szarabajka, Ed Begley Jr., among others.

It was released on December 21, 1984.

  • Arab Oil Sheikh: The US Government attempts to trade Sunny (Hawn) to one in exchange for being allowed to construct a military base in his nation.
  • Bureaucratically Arranged Marriage: Sunny is offered as a wife to the emir of a small Middle Eastern nation of strategic importance to the United States. She's not aware of this, thinking only that she's going on a diplomatic visit, until she arrives and sees a mural of herself with the emir in wedding attire.
  • Heroism Equals Job Qualification: Sunny, a cocktail waitress, stops an assassination attempt on a Middle-Eastern ambassador and is therefore hired by the US government as a top-level State Department protocol official.
  • One-Word Title: Played with Job Title, since the protagonist is hired as a top-level State Department protocol official.
  • Scandalgate: Sunny Davis is unaware that she's being asked to be a prostitute for a high-ranking Arab sheik. When the scandal finally broke, the TV news called it "Sunnygate".
