Night of the Scarecrow is a 1995 American Slasher Movie.

Long ago, a small town made a deal with a warlock for a bountiful harvest. However, when the town's founder learned he was trying to bring the whole town into hedonism, he killed him and buried his bones in a cornfield. In the modern day, a couple drunks accidentally awaken his spirit, who possesses a scarecrow. Now, the warlock goes on a rampage to kill the descendants of his killer, plotting to return to human form once more.

Not to be confused with Dark Night of the Scarecrow.


This film contains examples of:

  • Big Bad: An unnamed warlock possessing a scarecrow to avenge his prior murder.
  • Dating What Daddy Hates: Claire specifically asks out a foreman employed by her politician father to spite him.
  • Deal with the Devil: Silas Goodman, founder of the town the film's set in, bargained with a warlock for a bountiful harvest, in exchange allowing him to be above the law. After the warlock starts to make the town into his own personal hedonism cult, Silas kills him and buries his bones in a cornfield. Now he's back to collect on Silas' descendants.
  • The Hedonist: The warlock's entire goal in life was to partake in as much pleasure as possible, slowly turning a small town into his own orgiastic paradise before being killed.
  • Holy Burns Evil: Thaddeus tries to pull a cross on the scarecrow to repel him, and it seems to work, but the scarecrow reveals it was just a sick joke and the cross does nothing.
    "Fooled ya!"
  • Hypocrite: Thaddeus lectures his daughter over ordering a lingerie catalogue, only to perv on it in the next scene.
  • Mouth Stitched Shut: The scarecrow stitches Thaddeus' mouth shut after he says he doesn't know where his book is.
  • Nepotism: Danny is forced to rehire an incompetent employee because his boss is friends with the employee's dad. Said boss also managed to get his brother a sheriff job because he's the mayor.
  • Our Ghosts Are Different: These appear to be yellow light in their primary forms, and can possess objects to interact with the outside world. They can impersonate others' voices, teleport, phase in and out of objects, and create seeds to grow plant monsters. If they have magical abilities, they're severely limited, but their souls can be placed back in their bodies. They're can feel pain, but can only be destroyed if their bodies are.
  • Scary Scarecrows: The main antagonist is a warlock who's soul is trapped in a scarecrow, seeking to get his human body back by killing the descendants of his killer.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: The warlock's spirit is trapped underground for a century, until the stone slab trapping him is broken.
  • Sins of Our Fathers: The scarecrow spends the film killing the descendants of the man who killed him.
  • Tome of Eldritch Lore: The MacGuffin the scarecrow seeks is his old spell book, with which he can reunite his body and spirit.
  • Villain Opening Scene: The scarecrow killing a crow for pecking at his eye.
