My Demon Lover is a 1987 horror comedy film written by Leslie Ray and directed by Charlie Loventhal.

Denny (Michele Little) is a young woman who's had a string of bad relationships. She falls in love with a homeless man named Kaz (Scott Valentine), but doesn't understand why he flees her apartment every time she wants to have sex with him. He eventually tells her the truth: he's under a curse that causes him to turn into a demon every time he becomes aroused. Meanwhile, someone called the Mangler has been attacking and maiming random women, and Kaz worries that it's him.

My Demon Lover contains examples of:

  • Air Guitar: During the Falling-in-Love Montage, Kaz plays the saxophone while Denny plays air guitar next to him.
  • Bridal Carry: Kaz carries Denny into her apartment this way.
  • Disgusting Vegetarian Food: Denny and Kaz have a Meet Cute outside a health food cafe where Kaz asks for her burger. She gives it to him, but he takes two bites and then spits it onto her dress in disgust. Denny tells him that the "meat" was actually made of fruits and vegetables. Kaz exclaims in horror, "I ate a fruit burger!"
  • Flowers of Romance: Kaz ties a rose to a balloon and leaves it floating in Denny's apartment.
  • Instant Sedation: When Charles kidnaps Denny, he holds a handkerchief to her face. She struggles for a few seconds and then goes limp.
  • Laughing at Your Own Jokes: Kaz pretends to be an alien while busking on the subway. He says, "Give us your money, and we go in peace. Oh, oh, and leave the women!" He laughs, but no one else does.
  • Love-Obstructing Parents: A love-obstructing grandparent turns out to be responsible for Kaz's curse. When he was a teenager, he kissed a girl named Bibi, and her Romanian grandmother walked in on them. As Kaz was running away, the grandmother shouted "Pazatski!" and shot him with a bolt of energy from her finger. The same grandmother turns out to have cursed Charles.
  • Mess on a Plate: In the health food cafe, a device called the Health-O-Matic dispenses unidentifiable gray glop onto a plate. The waitress serves it with a stick of celery on top.
  • Mistaken from Behind: Kaz flees Denny's apartment after turning into a demon. The next day, as Denny wanders the city, she sees a man who's wearing a shirt that looks like Kaz's and has his hairstyle rooting through trash. She runs up to him and says, "Kaz! Kaz!" He turns around, and she sees that he's a different homeless guy.
  • Non-Nude Bathing: Kaz and Denny are kissing when he suddenly runs into the bathroom for a fully-clothed cold shower.
  • Outside Ride: Kaz leaps from Denny's balcony to the roof of her kidnapper's car. Sonia (Gina Gallego), Denny's friend who thinks Kaz is the Mangler, climbs onto the hood of the car. As the kidnapper drives away, the two continue fighting as they cling onto the outside of the car.
  • Over-the-Shoulder Carry: Charles carries Denny around this way after kidnapping her.
  • Shock and Awe: Charles, another demon, zaps Kaz with electricity from his hands, forcing him to transform from a demon to a human. A few minutes later, he picks Kaz up and continues to electrocute him. Kaz still manages to stab Charles from that position.
  • Street Musician: Kaz plays the saxophone on the New York City Subway.
  • Umbrella Drink: Early in the movie, Denny's Abhorrent Admirer Charles (Robert Trebor) walks towards her holding an umbrella cocktail, part of which he spills.
  • Voice of the Legion: When Kaz is fully transformed, his voice becomes deeper and is doubled.
