Jenny's Wedding is a romantic dramedy released in 2015. It stars Katherine Heigl and Alexis Bledel. Supporting actors include Linda Emond, Tom Wilkinson, Matthew Metzger and Grace Gummer. It was directed by Mary Agnes Donoghue.

After many attempts by her parents to fix her up with various would-be suitors, Jenny has decided to marry her partner of 5 years. The only problem is that she hasn't told her conservative Catholic family that she's gay and that her "roommate" Kitty is actually her girlfriend. Will they support her as she publicly comes out as a lesbian and marries Kitty?

Jenny's Wedding provides examples of:

  • Babies Ever After: The end credits show a photo of Kitty and Jenny with their baby
  • But Not Too Gay: Some critics have noted that Jenny and Kitty are very rarely physically affectionate and only have a couple of chaste kisses throughout the movie.
  • Coming-Out Story: The main plot is Jenny revealing that she's gay and Kitty is actually her girlfriend as opposed to just her roommate.
  • Floorfilling Song and Dance: The film ends with the DJ at the wedding putting on "Conga" by Gloria Estefan and the characters forming a conga line.
  • Forced Out of the Closet: Jenny is spotted by her sister Anne as she's out shopping with her girlfriend Kitty for wedding dress (they've gotten engaged). She's not out to Anne at the time, who realizes their relationship after seeing the two kiss. Anne isn't happy to learn she hasn't yet been told, but doesn't care that Jenny's a lesbian.
  • Gayngst: Growing up in a conservative family has made Jenny scared to publicly come out.
  • Heteronormative Crusader: Jenny faces homophobia not only from her mom and dad but older people in the community as well due to coming out as a lesbian then declaring she's marrying her girlfriend. All come around except one by the end though.
  • Lipstick Lesbian:
    • Jenny is a lesbian with long hair who wears skirts or dresses frequently, makeup and tasteful jewelry. When she at last comes out to her mother, her mom can't believe it as their tastes are so alike (apparently believing lesbians have to be more masculine).
    • Jenny's girlfriend (and later wife) Kitty also has a feminine style, though not quite as much.
  • Mama Bear: Jenny's mom Rose gets enraged at overhearing two women she knows pitying her about Jenny being a lesbian, loudly chewing them out publicly and realizing she's been wrong to reject her daughter while doing so.
  • Masculine–Feminine Gay Couple: Obliquely discussed by Jenny's parents a couple times. Her mom wonders whether she or her girlfriend Kitty will wear a suit at their wedding (they both want dresses). Jenny's dad also seems to believe that one must be the "man" sexually, which angers Jenny. Both are actually feminine women and Jenny's annoyed by their assumptions.
  • Queer Romance: Jenny and Kitty's romance is central to the film.
  • Tears of Joy: Jenny gets visibly tearful at hearing her mom has accepted her being a lesbian and wants to be a part of her wedding with her girlfriend, hugging her fiercely while she's beaming with happiness. She reacts the same way when her dad also comes around later.
  • Transparent Closet: Jenny's brother Michael is the only one of her family members who'd already known she's a lesbian. In fact, he knew this since high school. He acts the most accepting to her from the start.
  • Why Couldn't You Be Different?: Jenny's parents aren't happy that she's a lesbian. They get over it.
