Rose, a mostly sweet and lonely Irish driving instructor, must use her supernatural talents to save the daughter of Martin (also mostly sweet and lonely) from a washed-up rock star who is using her in a Satanic pact to reignite his fame.

Not to be confused with the webcomic of the same name.

Extra Ordinary provides examples of:

  • Ambiguously Bi/Gay: When it is revealed that Sarah isn't a virgin, Martin accuses a boy she knows, only for her to derisively ask why it has to be a boy.
  • Bedsheet Ghost: At the beginning, Rose briefly sees the townsfolk wearing bedsheets that evoke this. Later, the demon Astaroth manifests as a bedsheet ghost with out of the ceremonial sheets Christian had hung up.
  • Cold Ham: Rose's father Vincent Dooley spoke in an odd, stilted manner that one would understandably think that he only talked like that when he was doing his show. But no, when he possesses Martin he starts speaking the exact same way.
  • Deal with the Devil: The ritual Christian has to enact involves him sacrificing a virgin woman (who will then be violently raped to death). In exchange, the infernal power of Hell will give him the power to revitalize his career.
  • Dodgy Toupee: Christian has severe pattern baldness that he hides with a wig, the only point where we see his bald head is before he falls to Hell.
  • Dragged Off to Hell: When Martin manages to save Rose by having sex with her, there are no more virgins left for Christian to sacrifice, the portal closes right after Christian falls into the pit.
  • Henpecked Husband: Believing that he accidentally killed his wife and suffering 8 years of the poltergeist's abuse, Martin has trouble asserting himself, his daughter's safety the only thing motivating him to do so. As he gets to know Rose, his confidence swells and he is able to standup to his wife's ghost.
  • Instant Birth: Just Add Labor!: Right before the big climax, Sailor starts going into labor. In under an hour, she winds up giving Clean, Pretty Childbirth while Astaroth tries dragging her sister to Hell.
  • Ironic Name: The guy named "Christian" is actually a Satanist.
  • My Greatest Failure: The reason why Rose abandoned the ghost-hunting business is because she forgot part of an incantation, resulting in her father being possessed by both a haunted pothole and a dog (It Makes Sense in Context), leading to her father getting run over by a bus.
  • Not-So-Harmless Villain: Christian Winters comes across as a hammy hack who is trying to be a menacing threat, but his less than invested wife combined with his lackluster attempts at seeming like an evil mastermind make him look more like a dork. That being said, he is versed in the Dark Arts enough to perform a Gloating on two virgins, is perfectly willing to have said virgin (both of which were teenage girls) raped to death by demons and he kills his wife in cold-blood when he loses his patience with her.
  • Offing the Annoyance: Christian does this to his wife when she interrupts his sacrifice with their take-out, having run out of patience by then.
  • One-Hit Wonderinvoked: Christian Winter is one of these, having become a success with the song "Cosmic Woman". His inability to make a new hit however is why he turned to Hollywood Satanism in the first place.
  • Our Ghosts Are Different: Ghosts are formless and invisible remnants of deceased people. They often try to manipulate inanimate objects, and those with "Talents" are capable of communicating with them directly, either by hearing them speak or acting as a Willing Channeler. When a ghost passes on, the Willing Channeler vomits ectoplasm which can be used as material for rituals.
  • Psychic Powers: There are certain people with "talents" when it comes to dealing with ghosts, including the ability to sense them, to be a Willing Channeler and to enact a Hollywood Exorcism.
  • Running Gag: Christian's wife Claudia Winters keeps asking Christian why they can't just "kill the bitch" since the sacrifice will kill the virgin anyway, only for an exacerbated Christian to try and explain it to her. Eventually he gets so sick of having to explain it to her that he slits her throat. Right as he is hanging from the edge of the Hellgate, he openly ponders that in retrospect, he really should have just "killed the bitch."
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: The reason why Rose and Martin go around town exorcising ghosts is to collect their ectoplasm to undo the Gloating Christian put onto Sarah. By the time they manage to collect the seven jars of ectoplasm, Christian undoes the protective binding spell and has her float to his mansion.
    • Even better, it is revealed that Sarah wasn't even a virgin, the Hellgate spitting her back out unharmed when Christian tries sacrificing her.
  • Spanner in the Works: The only reason why Rose was even involved, eventually leading to her thwarting Christian, is because his wife Claudia accidentally killed the virgin Christian already had when she tried waking her up to ask if she wanted anything.
  • Unexpected Virgin: While it's revealed that Sarah actually isn't a virgin, it turns out that Rose is, her only supposed sexual encounter not counting because it was "only the tip."
  • Unfinished Business: The first ghost Rose and Martin exorcise is Tom, a man who always took out the trash and insists that his wife puts the trash and recycling in the right bins.
  • Willing Channeler: One potential "Talent" is the ability to act as a vessel for ghosts. Back when they were ghost hunters, Rose's father Vincent acted as this while his daughter performed the exorcism. It is revealed that Martin also has this talent, acting as a channeler when they collect ectoplasm. By the end of the film, he becomes this full-time for their new Occult Detective agency.
