Denji Sentai Megaranger vs. Carranger is a 1998 direct-to-video movie which depicts a crossover between Denji Sentai Megaranger and Gekisou Sentai Carranger, part of the annual Super Sentai "Vs. Series".

This V-Cinema special takes place between episodes 39 and 40 of Megaranger, and some time after the finale of Carranger.

This movie contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Continuity Snarl: Not as bad as others, but still present:
    • In the case of Carranger, this special can take place after that series' finale without any issue whatsoever.
    • In the case of Megaranger, this episode can only take place on its earliest on episode 39note  due the presence of Lizard Nezilar among the revived monsters, but this particular placement is in the middle of the Neziranger story-arc, which didn't have any kind of downtime whatsoever for the main cast due to the restless pursuit of the Nezirangers against the main cast. The former aren't even mentioned in the film proper, making it very difficult for its placement in continuitynote . Were it not for Lizard Nezilar's presence among the revived monsters, it could actually take place just before the Neziranger story arc.
  • Crossover: Between Carranger and Megaranger.
  • Expy: Helmedor can be considered this. He is a space biker who's goal is to destroy planets in order to build a motorcycle racing ramp throughout the Milky Way Galaxy. A scheme that's almost identical to Exhaus's plan from the main season of Carranger.
  • Idiot Ball: Due to the plot centering around a Dragon-Fairy with seemingly no limits to his wishing power, the characters in it are this. The first two wishes are wasted for food items by Miku and Kyosuke who are rightfully yelled at for their stupidity. Later the villains get two wishes and wish for a planet-destroying laser weapon and a wish that resurrects certain monsters back from the dead. While the former wish was what Helmedor intended from the start and he achieves half of his goals, the latter wish was the perfect opportunity for Nezirejia to rid themselves of the Megaranger in one fell swoop if they simply wished they were dead. The same thing could be said for the Rangers when they get the final wish, why didn't they use the wish to defeat Nezirejia for good instead of using it for a short-term power up?
  • In the Name of the Moon: For the Vs. movie, both teams give their roll call in succession. In this case, the previous team (Carranger) goes first, followed by the current team (Megaranger).
    Kyosuke: "RedRacer!"
    Naoki: "BlueRacer!"
    Minoru: "GreenRacer!"
    Natsumi: "YellowRacer!"
    Yoko: "PinkRacer!"
Carrangers: "Fighting for traffic safety! ''Gekisou Sentai - CaaaarrrRanger!"
    Kenta: "MegaRed!"
    Kouichiro: "MegaBlack!"
    Shun: "MegaBlue!"
    Chisato: "MegaYellow!"
    Miku: "MegaPink!"
    Megarangers: "Denji Sentai... Megaranger!"
  • New Powers as the Plot Demands: For this movie only, Shibolena has the ability to brainwash enemies to Nezirejia’s cause by blowing them a kiss.
  • Quest for a Wish: The entire premise and plot of the special are the heroes and villains duking it out for the power of the Dragon-Fairy Picoto, who can grant anyone 5 wishes when they spray water on him or the shell he lives in.
  • Super Mode: This movie features the Megaranger's Mega Tector armor which doesn't appear in the series.
  • Versus Title: In this case, the "versus" refers to the initial small conflict of interest between the teams, then the all-out brawl when the Carrangers are brainwashed by Shibolena.
  • Wasteful Wishing: Miku Imamura/Mega Pink and Kyosuke Jinnai/Red Racer wish for Giant Cake and Katsudon respectively.
