Fennekin Line

Morphs [Oak Catalog #]

  • Fennekin [653]
  • Braixen [654]
  • Delphox [655]

Notable Biology

Fennekin are small, quadrupedal Fire-type pokemon native to Kalos and it's surrounding territories, notable for the big puffy tails and ears, although not having any immediate remarkable features, Fennekin are remarkably easy to domesticate and train, making them good starter Pokemon for fledgling trainers. Outside of Human ownership, Fennekin work in packs, gathering twigs and berries that they lightly roast with simple Embers before consumption, where normal pack hierarchy applies, with the alpha of the pack taking the first and largest share, and the lessers, follow up on what's left. It is natural for different packs to bicker.

Braixen are the adolescent form of Fennekin, although now bipedal, they still retain the large tails and ears of their younger selves, however are now much more intelligent, and use this new found intelligence to develop complex social structures through the medium of the stick that is sheathed within the puffy tail and ignited by friction, possible by the coarse, heated inner fur within it's tail. When a Fennkin in a pack evolves into a Braixen, it immediately becomes the alpha (if it wasn't already), and becomes what is known as the "Clairvoyant", guiding and communicating for the pack. Unlike pure Fennekin packs, the "Clairvoyant" can use his or her superior position to assimilate the pack, or create diplomacy between other Clairvoyant packs, with the ultimate goal of a merger of the two packs. In domestic situations, Braixen have shown to be very adaptable, becoming a Clairvoyant for the group of pokemon in the trainer's team, or fellow pokemon in the neighbourhood

Delphox Is the final and mature form of Fennekin, a now more developed bipedal fox-like pokemon, it's further heightened senses give it paranormal abilities, notably being able to see and accurately predict the future, this ability is where the term "Clairvoyant" comes from, as the Delphox will use this psychic power to predict a myriad of information to optimise the pack's chances of survival. If there are multiple Delphox, they will form a "Consensus": a form of Democracy using different perspectives of the future to come to unanimous decisions about further action. In domestic situations, Delphox' psychic prowess still proves useful in everyday work, much like Braixen, it too will become a clairvoyant for nearby pokemon, and can also entertain chilren and pokemon alike with magic tricks (if it has learned any).

An interesting theory has spawned from the similarities between the Fennekin and Vulpix lines, both are Fire-type Vulpine pokemon, and both have paranormal abilities:

  • The Fennekin line seems more akin to Wizards and Witches of Kalosian lore, being able to create magic tricks akin to that told in the Folklore.
  • The Vulpix line seems more akin to Kitsunes of Kanto lore, capable of multiple hexes and curses, also akin to the Folklore.
This similarity suggests that both lines have a common ancestor species, and diverged from a midpoint territory between Kalos and Kanto, this is further supported by the fossil evidence and evidence of fissures at the suggested midpoints.

Habitat

All members of the Fennekin line will live in forest outskirts or fields, normally where twigs and/or berries can be found, normally where members of the Vulpix Line (which have been imported from the Kanto region, as per request of a Prof. Sycamore, PhD.) reside, to which both will co-exist.

Diet

While members of the Fennekin line will normally rely on burnable foodstuffs, such as twigs and berries, but have been known to eat meat, they are however discouraged from this due to the risks of disturbing predatory species. No matter what the accepted foodstuff, they will always cook it using fire type moves.

Hazards

While friendly and always trying their best for their master, all members of the Fennekin line are temperamental and females are easily aggrovated among new faces, so threats are posed ranging from burns to headaches, nightmares and lack of limb control with Delphox.

Courting and Childrearing

Similar to other mammals and pokemon, all members are capable of mating and producing eggs, however, breeding Fennekin is prohibited without proper paperwork. Females (while pregnant) will becomes far easily aggrovated, and will not trust anyone (with exception if it is well trained, to which it will trust its' master and accompanying team). In the wild, eggs and young are handled by older Clairvoyants, known as Matriarchs, which will use their psychic power to raise and comfort the young, where they will join the lesser upon reaching the right age.

Social Structure

As stated before, Fennekin form packs, with alphas becoming Clairvoyants, and Consensuses being formed. However, when two different packs collide, the Clairvoyants will begin democracy, which will ultimately result in the follwing:
  • The packs will part ways.
  • The packs will merge.
  • The packs will agree to spar over the territory or subject.
On rarer cases, more aggressive packs will kill the Clairvoyants of another pack, forcing the remaining residents of the pack to accept their rule or disband into small packs, seeking a new home in another clan, this is uncommon though, and has been occurring less frequently thanks to human efforts guarding attacked packs.
