  • Synopsis: Set after season 2. Several months have passed since Rick left and Earth became a part of the Galactic Federation. But suddenly he’s being plagued by hallucinations of memories that aren’t his and lives he’s never lived and he feels like he might just be losing his fucking mind. He doesn’t understand what any of it means, what could possibly be wrong with him—and this time Rick’s not around to fix things.
  • Tags: Post Season 2, mature rating for a reason, hurt/comfort, mindfuck,
  • Comments: A take on what happens post-season 2 after the finale, dealing with Morty's experience on being back on Earth after the events of "The Wedding Squanchers". Excellent writing and stellar storytelling, and gives deep, in-character conversations with every main character on the show. It's probably one of the most well-written and well-known Rick and Morty fanfictions out there.

Let The Ricks Fall Where They May by Kat Aclysm

cleaned up version on AO3, just with less chapters

  • Recommended by Velkyn Karma
  • Status:: Dead; last updated September 2018, although as of November 2019 the author is still working on this fic
  • Synopsis: Rick never expected himself being stuck caring for a young Morty; one day he was minding his own business and then everything he ever knew would change as if the multiverse itself was determined to displace him. However, being stubborn and resilient is the only thing he knows how to do.(Younger Rick, Baby Morty, A/U elements, later chapters get darker)
  • Comments: Explores the idea of what happened if Rick had reconnected with his family when Morty was born...and happened to be babysitting the day the Galactic Federation came to blow up Earth. A long and excellently written fic about Rick getting stuck as a baby Morty's primary caretaker and figuring out how the heck to actually do that while dealing with his own stuff.

  • Comments: Frankly an epic novel of a fanfic right here. The settings are rich, the characters are unique, the plot is intriguing, and the sensuality between the characters is satisfying. A solid piece of literature all around.

Rick and Morty New Drama Adventures by CMR Rosa

  • Has a tropes page.
  • Recommended by SideshowJazz1
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Crossover with: Total Drama
  • Synopsis: Morty Smith always had a hard time making friends at his school. His grandpa Rick didn't help any. Now he just has to worry about keeping them. A crossover story between Total Drama and Rick and Morty.

The Deconstruction of Rick by Lyoko498

  • Recommended by Time Lord Victorious
  • Status: Complete, oneshot
  • Crossover with: Doctor Who
  • Synopsis: The Doctor confronts an old companion and a battle of wills and philosophy ensue.
  • Commentary: Aside from the occasional spelling and grammar error, this fic is a superb deconstruction of Rick's character, in a universe where he was once a companion of the Seventh Doctor. The depiction of the Twelfth Doctor is more along the lines of what he's like in Series 9 or 10, which makes his "The Reason You Suck" Speech fit his character well. The last line is particularly gutwrenching: "I came back because Beth and Morty were the best things to happen to me."

Rick and The Loud House by Itsnouse95

  • AO3 link here
  • Has a tropes page.
  • Recommended by Spectacular Troper
  • Crossover with: The Loud House

  • Synopsis: In one of many alternate universes, Rick Sanchez doesn’t have just one grandson and one granddaughter. He has one grandson and ten granddaughters.

Welcome to the Club by MorningMark]

  • Recommended by MattP5557, Red-Dead-Redeemer
  • Crossover with: Gravity Falls
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Shortly after his return Ford pays a visit to Rick's universe and tries out his Inter-Dimensional goggles.
  • Comments: Shorter than "A Tale of Two Stans" but just as moving, if I have one complaint it's that Rick really doesn't do much.

Car Thief by runawaycartoonist

  • Recommended by MorticiaPercival
  • Crossover with: Gravity Falls
  • Status: Dormant; last updated September 2018
  • Synopsis: The Stanley-Mobile is out of gas. Stan leaves his car on the side of the road and hikes into town with his empty gas can in hand... but next thing he knows, some asshole is driving by in his ride. Stan won't rest until he's got his car back and pummeled the jerk that stole it.
  • Comments: It's very nice, although I find that I'm not able to actually read some of the dialogue in the voices of their respective characters.
  • Tags: Criminal Couple, Stanchez,

  • Crossover with: My Hero Academia
  • Status: Complete

  • Comments: The fic is pretty funny and the Rick is spot on.

I Just Love Killin' by Blue Nine

  • Recommended by Deep Recon
  • Crossover with: Worm
  • Status: In progress
  • Synopsis: The recently deceased Krombopulous Michael's consciousness is unexpectedly thrown into the multiverse, and he is drawn to the brain of a girl that would normally be getting a very different extradimensional entity on her brain: Taylor Hebert.
  • Comments: Taylor has all her early canon (and pre-canon) aversions to killing, and K-Michael is every bit as blasé about killing as is expected, but their relationship is remarkably sweet as K-Michael fully supports Taylor's goal of bettering herself as she strives to become a hero. After all, if you can't love yourself, how can you love killin'?

Rick Goes AWOL (Gravity Remix) - SAIL by 13CrazyDaisies
  • Recommended by LongLiveHumour
  • Comments: A very well-paced vid which does a great job of showing off the contradictions of Rick's character. The beat is strong, the timing skilful and the mad and occasionally trippy effects a surprisingly good match to the show's aesthetic. Besides, the song's catchy as hell.
