    General Fics
187 by panademonium
  • Recommended by solfieri
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Jesse spends 187 days in captivity.
  • Comments: One of the most popular fics for the series, and deservedly so. A tense, haunting look at Jesse's days as a meth slave for Todd and the Neo-Nazis, the story pulls no punches and does an excellent job conveying Jesse's mental deterioration and despair, but never letting go of that one sliver of hope that helps him get through the end.

While You Were Vanishing by warriorpoet

  • Status: Complete
  • Pairing: Skyler/Jesse
  • Synopsis: Years after Walt's death, Skyler tracks Jesse Pinkman down to ask for his help in writing a book about the real story behind Heisenberg.
  • Comments: One of the best fics in the fandom, this story expands on what little interaction Skyler and Jesse had in canon in a believable way, delving deep into Skyler and Jesse's thoughts and feelings about their respective roles as Walt's accomplices/victims.

In the Snow of the World by Sylvestris

  • Recommended by solfieri
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: What becomes of a father who's lost his only child? What does he become?
  • Comments: A melancholy character study of Mike Ehrmantraut with an amazing prose that perfectly illustrates his dry, resigned stoicism. Although it was written before "Five-O", and therefore canon-divergent in some aspects, everything in it feels real and as close to canon as possible.

Daytime Sleeper by Salon_Kitty

  • Recommended by solfieri
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Jane doesn't succumb to Jesse's meth pity party in 'Mandala'.
  • Comments: A canon-divergent short story that poses the question: what if Jane hadn't died? And answers in a thoroughly believable way, expanding upon Jane's character and motivations.

South by Southwest by thrashunreal

  • Recommended by Kizuna Tallis
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: A grown-up Kaylee Ehrmantraut reflects.
  • Rating: Teen
  • Comments: A brief but effective and heartbreaking snippet looking into Kaylee's life some years after the series.

    Shipping Fics
5 Meditations on a Codependent Train Wreck by callmejude
  • Recommended by solfieri
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairing: Walt/Jesse
  • Synopsis: Walt and Jesse's relationship through the eyes of five different people.
  • Comments: From various perspectives, the author paints a clear, thoroughly unidealized picture of Walt and Jesse's relationship and all the dysfunction it entails.

Christmas in Albuquerque by OuvreLeChien

  • Recommended by solfieri
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairing: Walt/Jesse
  • Synopsis: Jesse finds himself alone on Christmas. He doesn't take it well.
  • Rating: Mature
  • Comments: A beautifully written study on Walt and Jesse's relationship as it adds on a sexual component piled on top of all the ambiguity, nuance and dysfunction already present, doing an excellent job on both character's voices and thought processes.

Silver Beads, Brown Bottles by laliquey
  • Recommended by solfieri
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Rust Cohle & Jesse Pinkman work on the same seining boat in Alaska.
  • Comments: An introspective fic where (post-Felina) Jesse and Rust cross paths in Alaska and strike an unexpected friendship as they bond over tragic pasts. The prose is marvelously poetic and does a perfect job at capturing Rust's unique speech style and points of view, and the whole story is very moving. Very highly recommended.
