Fanfic / Wings of Anemos

Go To

Wings of Anemos is a Golden Sun Continuation Fic based on the plot thread left hanging in Golden Sun: The Lost Age; namely, where Sheba comes from. It also deals with Alex's attempts to steal the piece of the Golden Sun within Isaac.

Generations ago, the Kings of Anemos took their people and fled the world, becoming little more than a myth. When myths come alive, however, Weyard's most recent heroes find themselves struggling to balance their own issues in this new world against the future of Weyard itself, learning the price some must pay to be heroes.

Can be found here. Sadly, the fic has not been updated since August of 2015.

This fic provides examples of:

  • Alternate Continuity: To Dark Dawn, in light of Kraden's death.
  • Anti-Magic: Sentinel, as per canon. The heroes manage to steal his armor and give it to Garet.
  • Attack of the Town Festival: The action kicks off during the Colosso Tournament, with Alex trying to kill Isaac to get the piece of the Mars Alchemy inside him and a seemingly random lightning bolt striking the town.
  • Badass Crew: The eight main Adepts definitely count.
  • Bait the Dog:
    • Just when you think Alex has made a Heel–Face Turn, he screws the heroes over as soon as it serves his interests.
    • Atropos does the same thing.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Sheba's always wanted to find out where she came from. She finds out in this fic, and she doesn't like it one bit.
  • Big Eater: Garet.
  • Dark Action Girl: King Atropos Urania.
  • Dawn of an Era: Releasing Alchemy into Weyward has changed things, and the heroes are working to deal with the changes.
  • Death by Adaptation: Kraden dies in the destruction of Tolbi. In canon, he lived to Matthew's era.
  • Doorstopper: Over 250,000 words, and only twenty-one chapters.
  • Dreaming of Things to Come: Ivan's dreams offer hints of the future.
  • Everyone Can See It: Sheba has an incredibly obvious crush on Felix. Even Felix can see her feelings, although he's uncertain if he returns her affections.
  • Fantastic Racism: The people of Anemos view those who live on the surface of Weyward with utter disdain.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: Felix is regarded with less respect than his companions, thanks to playing the role of a villain a little too well. He's at peace with the fact, however. He's not necessarily happy about it, but as long as the people he loves know the truth, he can live with it.
  • Hot-Blooded: Garet, of course.
  • Killed Off for Real: Kraden, Clotho and Aisa, and a massive part of the city of Tolbi.
  • Living MacGuffin: Isaac, as the vessel of the power of the Mars Star, is targeted by Alex and the Anemos kings, who want said powers for their own purposes. Subverted when it turns out he never had it in the first place; Garet had the power all along.
  • Mistaken for Gay: While in Lemuria, Felix and Piers get mistaken for being together by Piers' uncle.
  • Never Accepted in His Hometown: Expanded upon from the original duology. Outside of his friends and family, Felix has become a pariah to the people of Vale for his actions in Golden Sun. Isaac was apparently naive enough to trust his old friend, Garet was a dumbass who would blindly follow Isaac to the end of Weyard, Jenna was covering for her brother, their families were brainwashed in Prox, and Kraden was a mad blasphemer. They even tried to banish Felix, only for him to point out that all they had left to banish him from was a stain on the ground.
  • O.C. Stand-in: Felix and Isaac themselves. Neither of them is a Heroic Mime, giving the author plenty of liberty to flesh them out and expand on their characters.
  • Offing the Offspring: Atropos kills her own daughter, Aisa. A Moral Event Horizon if there ever was one.
  • Original Character: Pretty much everyone from Anemos. Sheba is the exception.
  • Out-Gambitted: Atropos tries to steal the power of the Mars Star from Isaac, only to discover that the Wise One pulled one last fast one on them all. Isaac never had the power to begin with; it was in Garet's hands all along.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: Sheba is revealed to be a prince of Anemos.
  • Sacrificial Lamb: Aisa.
  • Sacrificial Lion: Kraden.
  • Seeks Another's Resurrection: Alex's desire to obtain the power of the Golden Sun stems from his desire to resurrect his younger sister Marie, who died of illness at the tender age of five.
  • She Is the King: In Anemos, the titles of King and Prince are gender neutral (one of the three kings is a woman), making Sheba a prince. Garet is highly amused when he finds out.
  • Ship Tease: Between Felix and Sheba.
  • Smug Snake: Clotho. While he lives up to his boasts, his ego is much too big for his own good.
  • Smug Super: Clotho again, which makes his defeat at Isaac and Alex's hands immensely satisfying.
  • Team Dad: Felix.
  • True Companions: Felix, Isaac, Sheba, Jenna, Garet, Piers, Mia, and Ivan definitely qualify. Felix in particular feels this way about his friends.
Felix: You've all become family to me, joined by blood spilt rather than blood shared.
  • Villain Teleportation: Alex's ability to do this is justified when he reveals he has an artifact called the Warp Pearl, which grants him short range teleportation. As he has mastered the ability to warp without the Pearl, he gives it to Mia.
  • Warrior Princess: Sheba is revealed to be a prince of Anemos (the title is gender neutral). She doesn't lose any her badassery when she finds out.
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: Felix, Jenna, and Ivan are ambushed by a group of bandits who attempt this tactic early in the story.
