What We've Missed Without You is a Diabolik Lovers fanfiction by peach_hime.

Blood Moon, the night that changed Yui Komori's life forever. Twelve vampires in the same room as her that night, a wicked plan brewed up by Karlheinz. They were all so wild, cruel, hungry, and sadistic...Yui finally had enough and managed to run away from that god-forsaken house before they could have their way with her again. But their animal-like hunger left an effect on Yui, forcing her to give birth various of times to their children even though they weren't there.


But does Yui despise these children? No, they were hers and she would love them till the end of time. Even though they remind her sometimes of that horrid night.

Years have passed and when Yui thought she finally had her life together with her adorable children...They come back into her life.

This fanfic provides examples of:

  • Abusive Parents: Hey, it's Diabolik Lovers, what did you expect?
    • Like in canon, Karlheinz enjoys messing with his sons' lives. He placed a drug in the boys' drinks in which it caused them to rape Yui, which she ran away from them.
    • Sejij tried to killed Yui when they met again. The reason was because he said that she was possessed by a demon.
    • Yui was this for a week when she had her eldest son, Yuuta, to due the fact that she had him after she was raped. Fortunately, she got her act together and became a loving mother to him and his siblings.
    • Advertisement:
    • Minato had followed a girl and discovered she was being abused by her parents. Minato got an adult to the scene and the parents were sent to jail while the girl got to live with her aunt and uncle.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: The story isn't so kind towards Yui. Being raped, having her children from this, her daughters being held captive unless she goes to a birthday party, and then having to meet her abusers/rapists again after twelve years is clearly taking a toll on her mental health.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Surprisingly, Laito of all people has this after Yui left. Granted, he still has some of his old traits but he's still nicer when Yui first met him.
  • Adult Fear: Yui face this when her daughters, Momoi and Airi, go missing. It doesn't help that they went to the Sakamaki mansion in order to find out about their mother's past with the Sakamaki family and are staying there until she goes to Subaru's birthday party.
  • Advertisement:
  • Age Lift: Yui is a grown woman in the story instead of a teenage girl in canon.
  • The Alcoholic: Ayato became this after he and his brothers discovered what they raped her.
  • Ambiguous Disorder: Yuuta seems to have some kind of sleeping disorder. He tends to sleep a lot but is always going to sleep even before his younger siblings do. This, of course, greatly worries his mother.
  • Annoying Younger Sibling: Some of the older kids feel this towards to the younger ones. But they all still care about each other.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: The quadruplets, especially Kaoru, are the youngest among Yui's children.
  • Big Bad: Karlheinz is this like in canon.
  • Broken Bird: Yui is this in the story. Even after accepting her children and be a good mother to them, it doesn't erase the emotional scars she got from her children's fathers.
  • Cheerful Child: Some of the kids are this. Justified, because they have a much warmer childhood under their mother's care, unlike most of their fathers.
  • Child by Rape: All of Yui's children are this. However, she loves them regardless of this.
  • Children Are Innocent: The younger kids had yet to understand things such as how babies are made.
  • Cool Uncle: Laito is one to his niece, Airi. Which is a big surprise since he wasn't type before that night.
  • Cosmic Motifs: The Chatpers' names have moon ones. Chapter 9 has the title 'The Moon and its Stars', which it's an information chapter on Yui's children.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Yui was sent to become the Sacrificial Bride to the Sakamaki brothers by the very church she had faith in and was soon abused by the brothers for her blood. More demon boys appeared and only wanted for her blood. The man who she thought was her father was actually her adoptive father with him trying to kill her because he said that she was possessed by a demon. Then one night, she was rape by the very demons that abused her for her blood. She did managed to run away from them and was found and taken in by a kind couple. However, she soon discovered that was she having her rapists' children. Fortunately, she got her act together and became a loving and hard-working mother for her children.
  • Dark Secret: Yui has kept the fact that her children's fathers and vampires from everyone, especially her children. However, this actually her fear for her children than anything else.
  • Dhampyr: All of the kids are this.
  • Disappeared Dad: None of the children's fathers have been in their lives. However, it makes sense since their fathers didn't know they existed, and because their mother ran away after they raped her.
  • Doting Parent: Yui greatly dotes on all her children despite them being the results of that horrifying night.
  • Doting Grandparent: Karlheinz is very friendly towards Momoi and Airi during their stay at the mansion. However, Momoi, understandably, doesn't trust him since he told her the horrible truth of hers and her siblings' births.
  • Familiar: Adam gets one in the form of Envy.
  • Friend to All Children: It's reveals that Laito has a fondness for children. This actually helps him bond with his little niece, Airi, rather quickly.
  • Generation Xerox: Subaru noted that he and his son, Hayato, are very similar to each other. As they both have mothers who were raped by their fathers and them being born out of this horrible acts with their beloved mothers having their sanity being slipped away from being raped.
  • Good Parents: Yui is a very kind and caring mother towards all of her children despite their upbringing.
  • Half-Sibling Angst: Averted. None of the kids feel this. They all show to have close relationships with each other. Even when some of the younger siblings is shown to annoyed their older siblings, they all care about each other.
  • Hate Sink: Karlheinz. Like in canon, he's enjoys destroying the lives of others, including the ones of his family, for his Adam and Eve Project. It's no wonder his sons hate him more than anything now since he caused them to raped Yui, the human girl they all love.
  • Hates Their Parent: The Sakamakis hate their father for good reasons since he did drugged them and made them raped the girl they all loved. It's also not unsurprised that some of the kids also hate their fathers since they believe that they abandon their mother after impregnating her.
  • Heroic Bastard: All of the kids are much kinder than their sadistic vampire fathers. At least when Yui first met them.
  • Human Mom Non Human Dad: Yui is the human mother while the guys are the vampire dads of the kids.
  • I Hate You, Vampire Dad: The boys are this to Karl. Justified, since he did put something in their drinks to have caused them to rape Yui that night.
  • I Want Grandkids: A rather dark example. Karlheinz did this by drugging his sons, adoptive sons, and cousins-in-laws to raped the girl they all loved.
  • Ill Girl: Yui is this sometimes.
  • Kids Are Cruel: The Komori siblings have been mad fun of by the other children because they don't have a father with them like their classmates.
  • Ladykiller in Love: Laito like in his canon route. He fell in love with Yui, a human girl. However, Laito knows that he could never be with her since he had put her so much pain in their past.
  • The Lost Lenore: Yui is this to the fathers of her children. While she's not dead like other examples, her disappearness did left holes in their lives and all of them regretted how they treated her.
  • Mama Bear: When Yui meets Karlheinz again after that night long ago, she shouts at him to not come near her children, despite her bring a mere human while he's the Vampire King who's extremely powerful.Karl is actually impressed by her protectiveness towards her children, saying it makes it up for his wives that didn't.
  • Masquerade Ball: Subaru's birthday party is this. Yui and her son, Hayato, are invited to it. Both to get Yui's two daughters back and for Hayato to finally meet his father. Although, Hayato is unknown about the latter, and only thinks that he and his mother are just going to a party and just picking his older sisters up.
  • Massive Numbered Siblings: The Komori siblings are made up of 22 kids.
  • Meaningful Name: Several of the kids' names have very well meaning in them.
  • Momma's Boy: All of Yui's sons adore her. Makes senses since she has been the only parent in their lives.
  • Must Make Amends: Ayato wants to find Yui and apologizes for all the Hell he put her through, even if it means making her son, Adam, into telling him where she is. However, Laito points out that apologizing to her won't be enough for her to forgive any of them. Even saying that it's best for her if they all leave her alone.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: The boys' reaction when Karl had told them what did they do to Yui that night.
  • Mystical Pregnancy: Yui has 22 children under her care, all who were forceably conceived on the last night of the Blood Moon and are all different ages.
  • Parental Abandonment: Seiji disowned Yui before the events of the story do to believing she was possessed by a demon.
  • Parental Love Song: Yui often sings one whenever nine of her children ask her. Although Yui has considers it to be a depressing song, she sings it regardless for them. She even change it differently since they each have different tastes of the song. It's also reveals on the same chapter that their fathers even loved that song and asks their mother do sing it. A flashback shows Reiji asking Yui to sing it to him since she sung it to Shu. He even pulls her close to him.
  • Parental Substitute: Takeru and Shiori Murata are both this to Yui and the kids. Acting like kind parents to the former and are grandparent substitutes to the kids. It helps that they were the ones who founded Yui after she escaped from her absuers and give her a place to stay. They even give her a job at their diner after she begged them to let her work for them.
  • Parents as People: Despite being a loving mother to her children, Yui still suffers mental health issues due to the pain and trauma she endured from their fathers. She also tends to overwork herself to the bone which greatly worries her children.
  • Promotion to Parent: The older siblings take this role often. However, unlike most examples, this isn't play for drama. Since there are 22 kids in the family, the older kids do this to help their mother around.
  • Rape as Backstory: Prior to the events of the story, Yui was raped by the Sakamakis, Mukamis, and Tsukinamis on the last day of the Blood Moon. This was actually caused by Karlheinz who put something in the boys' drinks.
  • Rape Leads to Insanity: Zig-zagged. While Yui suffers from PTSD after being rape that night. This still goes on after all these years. However, she's trying to be strong for her beloved children.
  • Reality Ensues:
    • Someone who went through a traumatic event will have develop PTSD, sometimes for a life time.
    • Even when an abusive person will become remorseful towards their actions and wants to apologize to a person they wronged, that person won't forgive them so easily and might not want ever see that abusive person.
  • Really Gets Around: Subverted. Despite what the other parents say, Yui only had her 22 children because she was raped but she keeps this quiet out of fear for her children.
  • Related in the Adaptation: Adam is the son of Ruki Mukami instead of Shin Tsukinami in the first latter's Brutal Ending in Dark Fate.
  • Secret Keeper: Laito is the first to find out that Momoi and Airi are Yui's daughters after the second latter shown him a picture of her mother in her scrapbook. He doesn't tell his brothers since he knows that Yui most likely doesn't want to see them again after what they did to her.
  • Single-Minded Twins: According to Adam, his younger twins siblings, Kei and Minato, act like this. Even when they're separated, they tend to act like one.
  • Shared Family Quirks: A lot of the kids take after their fathers.
  • Shout-Out: Four of Yui's children have names from the Canon games. Adam, Justin, Melissa, and Christina.
  • Slut-Shaming: Yui gets this treatment from the other parents due to having many children who don't resemble each other much.
  • Struggling Single Mother: Yui actually has a good job in a diner where she and her children live above. However, her mental health cause her to be very fragile at times.
  • Teen Pregnancy: Yui had her first child when she was in her late teens.
  • Trickster Twins: Both Kei and Minato act like this often. Adam has always tells them not to cause trouble since it'll only stress out their mother more already.
  • Unrelated in the Adaptation: As mention above, Adam is Ruki's son instead of Shin's.
  • Unto Us a Son and Daughter Are Born: Yui has them.
  • Vampire Dance: The masquerade ball is this. All the guests are vampires.
  • Vampire Monarch: Karlheinz as usual. However, he actually wants one of the children to take his place and be his heir.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: The Vampire King Karlheinz is this. As usual, he has no remorse what he does for his Adam and Eve Project no matter what. That includes the lives of his family, his sons, adoptive sons, and couins-in-laws are all victims of his plans along with their love interest Yui and their illegitimate children.
  • You Monster!: Momoi says this to Karl after he reveals how she and her siblings were conceived by rape. Karl says that his sons have been calling him that more often ever since he told them what he made them did to Yui.
