Ultimate DCU Headverse is a The DCU Alternate Universe Fic by KryptoKin

The series can be found in Archiveofourown.org and KryptoKin's FF.Net, and it consists of the next story arcs:

  • "Gettin' By (Reupload)": Watch as Katherine "Kate" Kane -a.k.a., Batwoman- enters a new phase in her life as a superhero and as a business owner. But more importantly, watch her as she deals with what it's like to be friends with none other than Supergirl. Oh, and maybe deal with her feelings for Supergirl's alter ego Linda Lee-Danvers, too.

  • "The Other Side of the Story": Companion piece to "Gettin' By". Supergirl is a diplomat representing Kryptonians as well as other aliens, like Wonder Woman is representing Themyscira. On her journey, she meets the elusive Batwoman. Set about ten years or so after the New 52 reboot (with personal changes) and rated for action violence and brief spots of language.

  • "Red, White & Blonde: RED": Supergirl is dead. The world is in mourning. The lives of all who loved her have been changed forever. This series follows various DC characters who were close to Supergirl. Follow them as they mourn the loss of someone they loved and how they face the challenges ahead of them.

  • "Red, White & Blonde: WHITE": Supergirl is alive! Yet the world is still in mourning. The lives of all who loved her have been changed forever and continue to be with her "resurrection." Part I mainly followed the Bat-Family. Part II follows Wonder Woman and those closely affiliated with her.

Tropes:

  • Age Lift: Supergirl is twenty-eight at the beginning of the story.
  • Blatant Lies: Linda, who is still pretending to be a normal civilian around Kate Kane, accidentally reveals she knows Wonder Woman intimately; so, she quickly invents a lame story to explain why she has become desensitized to the sight of Wonder Woman naked.
Kate: "Linda. I want to apologize for this morning. I want to apologize about the towel thing."
Linda: "Oh... Wait, why do you have to apologize? I'm the one who invaded your room. Besides, after seeing Wonder Woman walk around in the nude so many times, you get used to it."
    Kate: "Excuse me?"
Linda: "What I— what I meant was that I've been covering the peace talks in DC. That's where I've been the past several days. Anyhow, the only time I could speak to Wonder Woman was in the early morning and she always takes a shower in the morning. Every time I spoke to her, she had just gotten out of the shower. I guess growing up on an island with nothing but women doesn't make you shy."
  • Clark Kent Outfit: Linda's costume is carefully tailored to hide her muscles and make her look mousy and unassuming. Kate believes him to be an ordinary geeky girl until her costume's sleeves slip a bit and she catches a glimpse of the well-built physique beneath the fabric.
  • Clark Kenting: Kate checks Linda Danvers when she meets her and wonders why she is hiding her beauty behind a geeky look.
  • Did I Just Say That Out Loud?: When Supergirl comes to Kate's apartment to talk, the red-haired vigilante cannot help but think her super-hero costume suits her fine. All of sudden, Kara asks what she means with "suiting her":
I take the time to get a good look at her in uniform. The bright colors give her a different disposition than before. She looks relaxed and in a better mood than when she was in her white uniform. It suits her.
    "What suits me?" asks Supergirl.
Dammit! Did I say that out loud?
    "Nice language."
  • Doorstopper: As of January, 2020, 230,492 words spread over 98 chapters.
  • Eating the Eye Candy: Linda takes Kate her home after she gets accidentally knocked out. As Linda is serving Kate breakfast and speaking to her, the red-haired woman zones out several times during their conversation due to finding Linda's low cleavage very interesting.
  • I Know You're Watching Me: In "Getting' By"'s seventh chapter, Batwoman is eavesdropping an eyebrow-raising telephone exchange between Linda and Kate's cousin Bruce. Eventually Linda hangs up and Kate is about to swing off Linda's balcony when she hears Linda's voice asking if she enjoyed the show.
"Did you enjoy the show?" I stop and slowly turn. Linda has her arms crossed and is leaning on a door.
"How long did you know I was here?"
"After I hung up on my cousin Clark."
  • It's a Long Story: Supergirl tells Batwoman she can ask Oracle the Reddner Watch if she needs to get in touch with her. When Kate asks Babs the watch, she finds out Linda has it. Kate asks her blonde friend why she has that watch, and Linda replies "It's a long story". Kate asks for the summarized version, but Linda's explanation is so vague that Kate asks for the long story.
    "So… what's with the watch?" I ask.
"It's a long story." Linda puts the other chair back and sits across from me.
"I'll take the cliff notes version."
Linda chuckles then shifts in her seat. "My ex got it from Star Labs. He used it to get in contact with someone. Later on, he gave the watch to that someone, who gave the watch to someone else, who gave the watch to me for safe keeping."
"Forget it, I want the long version."
  • It's All My Fault: Kara blames herself for Barbara's paralysis only because she was not around to stop the Joker.
  • Luminescent Blush: In the sixth chapter of "Getting By", Kate blushes when she accidentally gets a peek at Linda's cleavage.
I nod like a child enamored by her hero and watch Linda lean down to pick the tray off the floor. Her shirt rides up slightly revealing a sliver of skin. As soon as Linda sits up, I turn my eyes to something else. "Katherine, are you okay? Your face is all red." I'm sure I turn a deeper shade at the use of my full name. "Kate, I think you need to eat. If you turn any redder your face will match your hair."
  • Modesty Towel: After taking a shower, Kate wraps herself with a towel, heads to her bedroom to get dressed, and she bumps into Linda, who was grabbing her breakfast tray instead of washing dishes in the kitchen as Kate expected.
  • Mundane Utility: Linda helps Kate fix a metal desk by using her super-strong fingers to remove a rusted nut from its bolt easily and quickly.
  • Oh, Crap!: Linda, who has not yet decided to reveal her hero identity to Kate, freezes when she slips that she knows Wonder Woman in a personal and close way.
"Oh... Wait, why do you have to apologize? I'm the one who invaded your room. Besides, after seeing Wonder Woman walk around in the nude so many times, you get used to it." Linda freezes as soon as the words leave her mouth.
  • Percussive Therapy: Maggie Sawyer is so angry with Batwoman, after the vigilante almost botches the transport of a witness, that she smashes three vases when she goes back to her home.
  • Power Perversion Potential:When Supergirl compliments Batwoman on her butterfly, Kate figures out Kara did X-Ray something else than her mask.
"Thank you. By the way, you don't seem like the butterfly type." Supergirl walks out and I'm completely confused.
    "I don't have a butterfly..."
'''Well, it looks like my mask isn't the only thing she X-rayed.
  • Saying Too Much: When Kate apologizes to Linda for walking in on her wearing nothing but a towel, Linda replies Kate has nothing to apologize for, and forgetting Kate does not know she is a super-hero, adds she has grown accustomed to female nudity thanks to Wonder Woman.
  • Suggestive Collision: In an early chapter, Kate reaches down to help Linda get up; however, Linda's weight yanks the red-haired woman down. Kate falls on top of the blonde woman and blacks out when her head hits Linda's.
  • Superman Stays Out of Gotham: Averted in the first story arc when Barbara asks Kara to come to Gotham and help Kate look for Mad Hatter.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: As patrolling alongside Stephanie Brown and Damian Wayne, Kate ponders she really does not like working with Damian because he is annoying at best.
  • Tempting Fate: In the very first scene, Kate Kane and Barbara Gordon are commenting how strangely unusually quiet Gotham City has been for several weeks when Batwoman hears a bomb going off.
"I guess. I just hope nothing-" An explosion five blocks away rattles the building where I'm perched. From the location, it might be the First National Bank of Gotham. "Looks like it won't be a quiet night, after all."
  • Trespassing to Talk: Kate has returned home after working in her store and is about to take a shower when she hears a noise on the balcony. Kat throws open the doors and finds Supergirl sitting on her balcony playing with a Rubik's Cube. When questioned, Kara explains she needs Batwoman's help to solve an Intergang case.
